Chapter 4 Revenge
The Grand Ocean Hotel was the swankiest five-star spot in town, with a lobby decked out in gold and jade.
Right now, the entrance was packed with luxury cars.
Catherine, rocking a JD haute couture dress, greeted guests with a polite but totally fake smile.
The socialites were whispering among themselves.
"She really is the Spencer Family's favorite, snagging a JD haute couture that most rich ladies can't even dream of borrowing."
"Looks like it's a limited edition with diamonds, just a notch below TB's anniversary edition. The Spencer Family really went all out."
Another chimed in, "Only the super elite can afford TB. Miss Spencer's outfit is already way out of our league."
Hearing their compliments, Catherine felt on top of the world, straightening up with a look of disdain and arrogance in her eyes.
Someone who couldn't stand her attitude decided to poke fun at her. "On such a big day, isn't your sister coming?"
"I heard she's been missing for three years. Any news on her?"
Three years ago, the eldest daughter of the Spencer Family vanished. Rumor had it she became a bald man's mistress and got chased away by his wife, too scared to come back.
People had laughed at Catherine about it for a while.
Catherine's face quickly soured, noticing everyone's attention. She lowered her eyes, looking all regretful. "Yes, even if my sister messed up, we'd forgive her because she's family. She ditched her family for a guy, which really wasn't worth it."
Just as Catherine finished, a brighter, more cheerful voice cut through the air. "Who ditched their family for a guy?"
Everyone turned to see who was talking.
Zoey was strutting in a bright red off-shoulder mermaid gown, hugging her curves perfectly.
The dress was decked out with different colored diamonds, especially the big red one in the center, sparkling under the lights, making her look stunning, noble, and elegant.
But all of that was nothing compared to the three hundred million dollar ruby necklace around her neck.
The men were wide-eyed, totally stunned.
The women stared at her dress, stammering to confirm with their friends. "Is she wearing the only TB anniversary edition in the world?"
"That dress alone could buy my whole company."
"My God, the eldest Spencer daughter is so elegant? How did she ever fall for that bald guy? She must've been blind."
Zoey walked slowly towards Catherine, not even glancing sideways.
She was taller than Catherine, and with her 3.15-inch heels, she made Catherine appear almost dwarf-like..
"Catherine, long time no see."
Catherine stared at her sparkling haute couture dress and her increasingly stunning face, burning with jealousy.
But she couldn't show it, forcing a smile through gritted teeth. "Zoey, why didn't you say you were coming back? I could've picked you up."
"By the way, Isla Jones is here today too. If it was a misunderstanding back then, you can clear it up now so everyone can enjoy my engagement party without any hard feelings."
She shifted the topic right to the root of the conflict.
People loved gossip. While admiring Zoey's beauty, they couldn't resist their curiosity about the past.
Zoey smiled coldly, but even a cold smile was full of charm and beauty.
"If you're getting engaged, at least do it with someone who isn't already engaged. What's the deal with engaging with my fiancé?"
Catherine's smile froze, her face twisting unpleasantly.
Zoey kept her voice soft. "By the way, three years ago, you and your mom teamed up with my dad to sell me off to Howard Jones. Was it just so you could marry Alexander?"
"You should've just said so. I'm not into a guy who sleeps with his own sister," she added.
In just a few sentences, the guests got some juicy gossip.
They were all ears, loving the drama of a sister stealing her sibling's boyfriend.
Catherine was completely overshadowed, her delicate two-faced act crushed by the guests' enthusiasm for gossip.
"You whore! Seducing other's husband is one thing, but to slander your own sister and her future husband on such a joyous occasion is just too much. You're just trying to make things hard for Catherine!"
Caroline Miller stormed out of the lounge, seeing her daughter being put down by Zoey. She was furious and dragged Isla over to back Catherine up.
With Caroline's support, Catherine immediately leaned over pitifully. "Mom, I just wanted to care for Zoey and help clear her name, but she..."
Catherine looked like she was about to cry.
Caroline, like a hen protecting her chick, pulled Catherine behind her with one hand and held Isla's hand with the other. "The quickest way to get to the bottom of this is to ask the person involved."
Everyone's eyes instantly focused on Isla.
Zoey's bright eyes also swept over, quietly watching Isla.
For some reason, Isla felt an inexplicable pressure. Thinking of her husband and seeing Zoey's youthful vitality in front of her, she grew angry. "You pretended to be drunk and hooked up with my husband while he was on a business trip. If he hadn't resisted, you would've blackmailed him, right? I have all the evidence from back then!"
Zoey coldly asked, "What evidence? The evidence of him drugging and raping me?"
Isla immediately panicked. "What are you saying!"
Zoey shot back, "Isla, on such an important day, why is your husband absent?"
Isla, who had been shouting, suddenly avoided Zoey's eye contact, not daring to answer.
She thought she had kept it well hidden; Zoey shouldn't know anything.
Zoey crossed her arms, mocking, "Because he's in prison, right? I personally sent him there, with the maximum sentence."
Zoey had studied law diligently for revenge. For her debut case, she had nailed the evidence, ensuring Howard ended up behind bars.
The process was tough, but the result was worth it.
Isla turned pale, trembling and unable to say a word.
Caroline didn't expect this dramatic turn of events, still stubbornly retorting, "Stop talking nonsense!"
Zoey calmly raised her hand and clapped.
Soon, Claire pushed out a projector. When it was turned on, the screen that had been showing wedding videos now displayed an interrogation video.
In the video, Howard was crying and constantly arguing, "He came to me for cooperation. I thought he had discussed it with his daughter!"
"How was I supposed to know that Arthur Spencer, who seemed outwardly kind, harbored a cruel and vicious nature, even plotting against his own daughter!"
Arthur and Alexander, who had just finished their conversation, emerged to hear these words. Their faces ashen, they quickly rushed over, trying to grab the projector.
Claire pushed the projector hard, causing Arthur to fall to the ground.
But the sound was turned up during the movement, and Howard's angry roar filled the entire banquet hall.
"It was both Arthur and Caroline's idea! They used Zoey to secure the next quarter's cooperation!"
