Chapter 6 She Wanted More
When Arthur saw who it was, he was momentarily stunned. His previous arrogance vanished, replaced by a sycophantic smile. "Mr. Windsor, what brings you here?"
As he spoke, he frantically signaled Caroline and Catherine to greet Henry with his eyes.
The two stammered, "Mr. Windsor."
Alexander also straightened up, his unruly expression replaced with respect. "Grandfather."
He then stood taller, more confident than before, and proudly introduced Henry to Zoey. "This is my sixth-ranked grandfather. My parents couldn't come, so he came to back me up!"
After speaking, Alexander carefully glanced at Henry's expression. Seeing no change, he was secretly pleased with himself for guessing correctly.
He came not as Henry, but as a grandfather.
Zoey looked at the newcomer in surprise, only seeing half of his profile. He had a high nose bridge, deep eye sockets, long and thick eyelashes, and a very clear jawline.
The man wore a well-fitted dark gray suit, exuding a faint scent of cedar, deep and fresh.
No matter how she looked at it, he didn't match the image of a "grandfather."
But since they were in the same gang, they were all unscrupulous scoundrel!
No matter who came, Zoey was not to be messed with today!
Zoey subtly distanced herself from Henry.
This small movement caught Henry's attention, causing him to narrow his eyes slightly.
Just now, he helped her block a slap, and the next second, she was on guard against him like a porcupine?
Alexander didn't dare to slack off, quickly leading Henry to sit on the sofa, and nodded to Catherine to pour tea.
But Catherine didn't get the hint. She looked innocent and pitiful as usual with her big eyes, making Alexander almost curse in anger.
Arthur, being more tactful, poured the tea and placed it in front of Henry with a smile.
Zoey watched the Spencer Family serve someone half their age like servants, finding it ridiculous and ironic.
No wonder Caroline was so determined to have Catherine replace her in marrying Alexander; she had her eyes on the formidable backing behind Alexander.
"Alexander, we haven't settled our account yet." Zoey coldly reminded.
Henry nodded, looking up at Zoey, signaling. "Continue."
He simply wanted to hear her explanation, but this light sentence felt like a blatant threat to Zoey.
Zoey, now easily provoked, turned her sharp gaze to Henry, ready to explode.
That look made her freeze in place.
Just now, she was only focused on being angry at Alexander, and now it was her first time making eye contact with Henry.
Hearing his voice gave her a faint sense of familiarity.
And seeing those eagle-like deep eyes, she instantly recalled him.
Such a captivating gaze, Zoey had only seen on the man at the airport.
Thinking of their first meeting, where he feigned deafness and muteness, letting her humiliate herself without realizing it, Zoey felt a surge of dissatisfaction and glared at him fiercely.
Arthur, seeing her directly looking at Henry with dissatisfaction, was so scared that he quickly reprimanded. "Zoey, who allowed you to look directly at Mr. Windsor!"
Zoey didn't listen to a word, smoothly retorting, "Is he Medusa? Can't be looked at directly?"
"You!" Arthur was so angry that his face turned purple, afraid that this disrespectful girl would drag them down.
Henry spoke calmly, "Continue from where you left off."
He intended to defuse the situation. But Zoey once again took it as a provocation.
Her eyes darkened, she shot a sharp glance at Henry, then stared at Alexander. "Even if you call ten grandfathers, it won't change the fact that you broke your promise, betrayed our relationship, and violated the engagement!"
Feeling emboldened by his grandfather's presence, Alexander retorted, "The childhood engagement was just a casual promise, only you took it seriously. Now you have the nerve to come here seeking compensation; you must be mad about money!"
Zoey, extremely angry, laughed and stepped closer to Alexander, saying firmly, "The childhood engagement was proposed by your family to repay a favor. You've already gained an advantage from it. How dare you argue with me?"
"If it weren't for the engagement repaying the favor, how much do you think your family would have to compensate my parents to show gratitude? I only asked for two million dollars, considering our past relationship, giving you a big discount, and you still don't appreciate it?"
Her words hit Alexander's sore spots, leaving him speechless.
After a long pause, Alexander finally said, "Zoey, how did you become so materialistic? You weren't like this before. If your mother were still alive, she wouldn't allow you to be like this!"
Unable to argue, he resorted to emotional manipulation, even bringing up her deceased mother.
Zoey's eyes filled with tears, but she stubbornly continued to question. "Then how do you explain tricking me into going to the hotel? If you hadn't messaged me saying you were celebrating your birthday early at the hotel, I wouldn't have gone to that room, and none of this would have happened!"
The hall fell silent.
Everyone knew how big the scandal was back then.
The Spencer Family, though ashamed and unable to face others confidently for a while, were ultimately relieved to have gotten rid of Zoey.
Everyone here was an accomplice.
Caroline, feeling guilty, glanced at Arthur.
Although Henry seemed to be on their side, he hadn't spoken much, so they couldn't gauge his true thoughts.
Zoey, seeing everyone's expressions, coldly mocked. "Now you're scared?"
Caroline, without being interrogated, confessed. "Who's scared?"
Arthur glared at her fiercely.
Henry's smooth forehead furrowed slightly, his gaze flickering, vaguely falling on Zoey, his voice cold as he asked Alexander, "Is what she said true?"
After that night, Henry had used many methods to find the truth, but the clues were always vague. He hadn't expected the truth to be like this.
Henry's tone wasn't heavy, but it weighed on Alexander, making him feel ashamed and unable to deny it.
By now, Henry knew the truth.
His tone remained calm, but his words were chilling. "Compensation or family punishment, you choose."
"Although your mother is far from the main family, you still carry a trace of the Windsor family bloodline. I believe your mother won't object to my disciplining you."
Alexander, sweating profusely, picked up the agreement to sign.
Just as he was about to sign, Zoey quickly snatched it away.
Facing Alexander's puzzled look, she leisurely replied, "I've changed my mind."
Alexander thought she was giving up on compensation, but just as he was about to rejoice, he heard her words.
"After reconsidering, I've realized I've been overly merciful. I want the Brown family's private collection and five percent of the shares."
