Chapter 7 Whom to Side With
"Are you nuts?" Alexander's face went pale, and he yelled out, totally forgetting Henry was still there.
The Brown family's private collection was his parents' pride and joy, packed with priceless treasures.
Handing it over to her meant giving away half of the Brown family's wealth!
And the five percent of the shares? Even he, their son, only had eight percent. What a crazy demand!
Zoey flashed a sweet, innocent smile. "Don't you want to marry your true love? For true love, can't you give up this much?"
Alexander's eyes burned with anger. If he agreed, his parents would kill him!
He took a deep breath. "Then I'll marry you."
Catherine's eyes filled with tears. "Alexander, didn't you promise you'd marry me?"
Now he was ditching her for some shares? Old things make way for new ones, right? Couldn't Alexander do this much for her?
Her words put Alexander in a tough spot; he was torn between facing his parents' wrath and losing his inheritance, and his undying love.
Weighing the two, Alexander made up his mind. "I'll marry you."
This time, his voice was firm.
Catherine glared at him, furious.
Zoey's eyes sparkled with mockery. "You're bad. I can't accept a dirty man. You two, one dirty and one stupid, are a perfect match. I won't ruin it."
Her harsh words made Alexander furious. He staggered, ready to lash out.
Henry raised his hand slightly, just a gesture, stopping Alexander in his tracks.
"Miss Spencer, the collection is a bit too much to ask."
Henry wasn't defending Alexander, but the collection was indeed a hassle.
Even if Zoey got it, it would only bring her more trouble.
Zoey caught on quickly and changed her mind. "Then how about fifteen percent of the shares?"
"Deal."
Just like that, it was settled. Fifteen percent of the Brown family's shares were given away so easily.
Alexander was stunned, and when he realized it, he looked at Henry in panic. "Grandpa, my parents will kill me if they find out; that's fifteen percent of the shares! And she was just making a ridiculous demand!"
Henry looked at him coolly, cutting him off softly. "It seems I need to have a talk with your mother."
Alexander's eyes widened, and his lips trembled.
Henry, as if nothing had happened, looked at Zoey. "Satisfied?" His tone was like coaxing a child.
Zoey was more than satisfied and nodded.
After nodding, she realized something was off. Wasn't Henry here to support Alexander?
Why did it feel like he was helping her negotiate?
According to her plan, getting five percent of the shares would have been a pleasant surprise, but Henry directly gave her fifteen percent.
Zoey didn't bother to think too much, turned her gaze to Arthur, and said slowly, "Now, it's your turn."
The will agreement wouldn't take effect immediately, and she didn't expect it to bind Arthur, as it could be changed at any time.
What she wanted now was to take back everything that belonged to her directly.
With the focus suddenly on him, Arthur panicked and instinctively looked at Henry.
He had seen clearly just now that Henry didn't seem to like Alexander much. Would he also dislike them?
If so, wouldn't Zoey have support for whatever she said?
Arthur thought for a moment and said to Henry, "It's rare for Mr. Windsor to personally handle family matters. Alexander is still young, and we appreciate your care; however, the next matter is a private affair of the Spencer family."
In other words, he was politely asking Henry to butt out.
Zoey, on a whim, interjected. "Didn't you just say Alexander was your family and I was the outsider? Now it's a family matter?"
She knew that with Henry here to keep things in check, Arthur wouldn't dare to be too cocky.
So Zoey seized the moment and said, "My mom left me fifty percent of the company shares, which you've been managing for me. Now I want them back."
Arthur had been managing them for her because she was young, and without her consent, they couldn't be sold. Otherwise, they would have been diluted long ago.
"Those shares belong to the Spencer family. What right do you have to ask for them?"
Caroline panicked when she heard Zoey was starting to divide the inheritance.
After panicking, she remembered Henry was there and backed down.
Arguing here was pointless, so Zoey sneered. "I'm just notifying you to be prepared because I will use legal means to get it back."
Zoey had toiled over law books, determined to bring to justice those who had wronged her and reclaim her rightful possessions through the legal system.
Zoey pushed the will agreement forward. "This is the last chance I'm giving you out of past sentiments. If you agree with it and notarize it, I'll only take back twenty-five percent now and wait patiently for the rest until you die."
Her words were harsh and aggressive.
Arthur was seething with anger, repeatedly uttering, "You!", clearly at a loss for words to express his frustration fully.
Henry looked at Zoey's triumphant expression, feeling a strange sense of pride.
After saying what needed to be said, Zoey threw out a confident and cold smile. "See you in court."
She was more restrained when facing Henry and politely expressed her gratitude. "Thank you."
Then Zoey turned and left.
Arthur didn't dare to chase Zoey because of Henry, and could only watch her leave with growing anger.
Arthur didn't know when he would have another chance to get Zoey alone after this.
After confirming Zoey had left the Brown mansion, Henry slowly stood up, leisurely straightened his suit, and nodded slightly.
Arthur and his entire family had to smile as they saw him out.
At the door, Zoey was sitting in the car, seriously making a phone call.
Arthur perked up, eagerly seeing Henry off, hoping to stop Zoey after he left.
But Henry ignored John opening the car door and walked straight to Zoey's car.
It looked like he wanted to talk for a while.
Arthur's hopes were dashed, and he turned back to Alexander in confusion. "Isn't he your grandfather? Why doesn't he support you at all?"
Alexander couldn't explain.
Zoey had just finished discussing details with her lawyer friend when she saw a tall figure by the window as she hung up.
Henry was quietly watching her, not saying a word.
Zoey couldn't let him stand there, so she impulsively said, "How about coming in to talk?"
Henry responded with a light laugh.
She blushed slightly, planning to get out, but Henry had already opened the door and sat in.
His tall frame made the small space cramped.
Zoey resisted the urge to adjust his seat and politely asked, "Mr. Windsor, do you have any other instructions?"
Henry raised an eyebrow. "Not calling me Mr. Blind anymore?"
