Chapter 4 Sleeping on the Dissection Table

When Kelvin heard that, his sleepy eyes suddenly lit up. Kelvin and Leroy headed to the tech department together. Sienna hesitated for a second, then tagged along.

The smell of formalin clung to her as she trailed behind Kelvin. He stopped and glanced sideways.

Lost in thought about the case, Sienna bumped right into him.

She rubbed her slightly reddened forehead and looked up at Kelvin.

Kelvin frowned. "Why don't you watch where you're going? What's on your mind?"

"I think that woman is already dead."

Leroy looked at Sienna in surprise, wanting to give her a thumbs up. But fearing Kelvin's anger, he just showed his admiration with his eyes.

Sienna obediently looked at Kelvin. He licked his molars, his messy hair revealing a pair of eyes with an indescribable coldness.

Then he curled his lips into a lazy smile and asked, "So, what's your reasoning?"

"If she were still alive, why would the killer murder those victims just to harvest body parts that resemble hers? And the cuts were so precise!"

Even the most mutilated face had professional-level cutting marks.

Kelvin glanced at her faintly. "I already knew that. By the way, we've checked all victims' medical records and frequent places, but found no suspicious people."

With that, he turned and entered the tech department.

Sienna stood there for a few seconds. She was just voicing her guess, but it felt like Kelvin was mad.

She didn't think much of it and walked into the office.

On the computer screen, Cara Clark's information was already displayed. A 23-year-old unmarried woman who died three years ago, she had no parents and grew up in an orphanage. In the photo, her mouth was smiling, but her eyes were lifeless, giving off an eerie vibe of death.

Arnold added, "She had little information and social connections, as if she were invisible to society. The cops ruled it a suicide; she was found hanged at home"

Kelvin asked in a deep voice, "Has the orphanage been checked out?"

"It was demolished five years ago due to government land acquisition. The orphanage director was an elderly person who also passed away three years ago. As for the other orphans, there are no records."

Arnold found a photo of the orphanage, showing it was very run-down, like a private establishment. There was no further information about it in the police files.

Leroy was startled. "Same cause of death as the four girls now. Could this be the first case?"

Kelvin frowned deeply, lost in thought, without speaking.

Sienna spoke softly, "Can we find Cara's body? An autopsy would clear things up."

Arnold glanced at Sienna. "It's tough. Her body was already cremated."

Because it was a suicide and no one claimed the body, the crematorium cremated it after half a month.

Sienna saw photos of Cara's belongings: a driver's license, train tickets, movie stubs, and some receipts. Cara worked five jobs a day, but the cops found very little money in her bank account, not much cash at home, and no luxury items. So, where did all her money go?

Just as Kelvin was about to speak, Sienna slowly said with a hint of regret, "She must have had a boyfriend. If there had been an autopsy, more clues would have been found."

Kelvin glanced at her, catching a hint of mockery in her eyes.

After getting Cara's info, Kelvin sent people for an on-site investigation. They had to wait for more details.

Feeling frustrated, he lit a cigarette, and Sienna covered her nose.

Kelvin bit the cigarette, "You're so pretentious."

Sienna calmly explained, "Smoking will mess up your lungs and shave off five to ten years of your life."

Kelvin's face darkened, and he finally put out the cigarette harshly. The smoke swirled in his mouth before he exhaled it.

Leroy tried to suppress a smile. If anyone else talked to Kelvin like that, they’d probably get punched.

Leroy realized Sienna wasn't as mild-mannered as she seemed. She was brave, standing up to Kelvin's tough demeanor!

They lost track of the clues again, everyone felt a bit down. They had all the info but couldn't piece it together.

Kelvin was organizing the case files in the office at night, with many analyses on the case board.

Sienna stepped out of the autopsy room to get some fresh air, standing in front of the case board as she looked over the details.

Then footsteps sounded behind her. She turned around. Kelvin's messy hair was wet, sticking to his forehead, his eyes covered with a layer of mist, making it hard to read him.

Kelvin glanced at her. Noticing the file in her hand, he lazily asked, "You done writing?"

Sienna nodded and handed him the autopsy report. Kelvin pulled out a chair, sat down, and started reading. Sienna stood still.

Kelvin noticed her from the corner of his eye, slightly raised his chin, indicating the beer beside him. "Can you stop pretending to be all obedient around me, okay?"

Sienna looked at him innocently. Kelvin really disliked her always expressionless face, then pretending to be innocent, as if he was scary.

While reading the autopsy report, Kelvin calmly said, "I'll let you work on this case, but that doesn't mean you're on the task force. And you can't act alone during the investigation, got it?"

Sienna nodded, "Got it."

Kelvin lifted his eyelids, water droplets from his hair sliding down his handsome face. The sense of desolation on him suddenly changed, adding an indescribable pain and mystery.

It made people want to dig deeper. She knew this type of person too well, the ones who were crazy inside.

Sienna stared at Kelvin for a while and said, "Kelvin, can I meet the fourth victim's family tomorrow?"

The task force members hated meeting with the victims' families. Telling them about their loved ones' deaths was heartbreaking, especially since they still hadn't caught the killer.

Sienna returned to the autopsy room. She didn't want to go to the hotel so late, so she slept directly on the autopsy table.

Early the next morning, Kelvin woke Sienna up from the autopsy table.

He frowned with a strange expression, but quickly restrained himself, saying calmly, "We have a lead on Cara."

Sienna was slightly stunned. She slowly opened her eyes, still a bit drowsy. When she looked up and saw Kelvin, her eyes flickered slightly. "Kelvin, give me two minutes."
