Chapter 14 Hangover

Luckily, a waiter stepped in and stopped them. I couldn't hear what was said, but Olivia's face dropped. She then spun around and stormed off.

Joseph quickly followed her, looking like he was trying to calm her down.

"Kathie!"

Howard's voice snapped me back to reality, and I blinked at him, a bit lost.

He sounded annoyed, "What do you want to eat? I've called you a bunch of times."

I bit my lip. "I'll just have what you're having."

For some reason, Howard looked a bit ticked off. What was his deal? Was he mad because I didn't hear him? Or something else?

Before the waiter left, Howard slipped him a few bills as a tip.

I sighed, "I should've learned more languages. Working here seems pretty lucrative."

Howard scoffed, "The waiters here are all grads from the fancy Novaria Lumina Valley University. You can't even speak Novaria, so how could you compete?"

I felt deflated. Seeing Joseph had already bummed me out, and now Howard's jab made it worse.

Soon, the waiter brought our food and a bottle of red wine.

"Herkito's red wine, aged over 50 years. Give it a try," Howard said, pouring me a glass.

I took a sip, and the rich flavor of the wine filled my mouth, surprising me with how good it was.

Howard warned, "Don't say I didn't tell you, this wine packs a punch."

I nodded, barely paying attention. My emotions were all over the place, and I needed an escape. Alcohol seemed like the perfect solution.

I don't remember how I got back, just that I felt hot all over and clung to a cool body, feeling comfortable.

In a haze, I heard Howard's annoyed voice, "Kathie, he's just a player. Is it worth getting this upset? You're not even taking care of yourself."

I found an outlet for my emotions, clinging to Howard's neck and sobbing, "I-I didn't want to, but we dated for so long, and he just fell for someone else. How can I not be mad?"

After that, everything went black.

When I woke up, I felt sore all over.

The bright sunlight made me squint, and it took a while to get my bearings.

"Awake?"

I followed the voice and saw Howard leaning against the door frame in a loose robe. The sunlight highlighted his abs, and I felt my cheeks heat up.

I hesitated, "Last night, did we..."

Howard nodded. "Yeah, you clung to me, kissing and biting. I'm a guy, so..."

He said it casually, but I felt super embarrassed.

I'd never been drunk before. Last night was my first time, and I couldn't believe how wild I'd been!

Howard handed me a glass of honey water. "Drink this. You'll have a headache after a hangover."

I gulped it down.

Being drunk was awful. I felt a dull ache in my lower abdomen and instinctively lifted the blanket to get up.

A cool breeze hit me, and both Howard and I froze. I looked down, my cheeks burning. I wasn't wearing any clothes!
