Chapter 5 Thank You

Luxe Haven Apartments might be called apartments, but they were actually two-story duplexes.

Together, the two floors added up to over 5,000 square feet. The whole place was super spacious, with great lighting and ventilation.

Even the decor was low-key and classy, which Diana really liked.

Diana picked a guest room and hung up her few clothes in the closet.

As for the ones Sophia had given her, she left them in the suitcase, figuring she'd wait until Howard got back to decide what to do with them.

Around six, Howard sent a message: [Come downstairs]

Diana hurried downstairs and saw a limited edition Bentley parked outside.

Howard stood next to the car, looking sharp in a perfectly tailored suit.

No matter when she saw Howard's face, Diana always felt amazed.

Even if she didn't love him, just looking at that face every day would make her feel at ease.

Howard had been leaning against the car, but when he saw Diana coming, he straightened up and opened the passenger door for her.

As Diana bent down to get in, she thanked him.

"All settled in?" Howard asked as he closed the door for her and got into the driver's seat, buckling up.

Diana nodded. "I don't have much stuff, and a lot of it was given to me by Mrs. Spencer. I heard that rich families have professionals arrange their things, so I haven't touched those yet."

"It's fine, I'm not picky about that," Howard said as he started the car.

Diana glanced at Howard, a faint light flashing in her eyes.

Seeing her staring at him, Howard thought she might be wondering why he was driving himself, so he explained, "The driver had something come up, so I let him go home."

Diana nodded, not minding that, but she was drawn to a gemstone Howard was wearing around his neck.

The gemstone had intricate carvings, but within its transparent surface, there was a faint trace of blood, making it look kinda creepy.

Diana frowned as she looked at it.

Howard had originally kept the gemstone inside his clothes, but it had slipped out when he bent down to fasten his seatbelt, letting her see it.

"Where did you get that gemstone?" she asked Howard.

At a red light, Howard braked and glanced down at it. "A friend gave it to me. I liked the carvings on it, so I decided to wear it."

He didn't know why, but the gemstone felt a bit cold against his skin.

Thinking Diana might like it, Howard offered, "If you like it, I can give you a smaller one. This one is a bit too big for a girl."

Diana shook her head, her eyes fixed on the gemstone. "It's a good gemstone, but..."

She frowned, unsure if Howard would believe what she was about to say.

But since the gemstone had issues and Howard would be living with her, it would affect her too, and most importantly, it would affect Sophia.

Sophia's health was already poor, and the reason Diana changed her mind about marrying Howard was to protect Sophia.

The light turned green, and Howard restarted the car.

The engine's roar drowned out Diana's words, and Howard asked casually, "You know about gemstones?"

"A little." Since Howard was Sophia's grandson, Diana couldn't just let him get into trouble.

So she told the truth. "This gemstone was probably stolen from an ancient tomb. During the theft, something happened, and the blood in the gemstone came from someone at that time. Wearing something like this for a long time will bring bad luck. Not just to the wearer, but to those around them as well. You haven't worn it for long, have you? It will take some time for the effects to show."

Howard frowned deeply. "How do you know that?"

He hadn't heard that Diana had any expertise in antiques, thinking, 'Could she be making this up? But why would she?'

Diana knew he probably wouldn't believe her.

So she lowered her eyes. "I can tell. If you believe me, don't wear it anymore. If you don't, then don't go back to the Spencer Villa to see Mrs. Spencer for a month."

After a month, the effects would start to show, and Howard would believe her.

In the meantime, those around Howard, including Diana, would be affected.

But that was okay, as long as Sophia was fine.

Diana didn't say anything for the rest of the drive.

While Howard, lost in thought about what she had said, didn't know what to say either.

Twenty minutes later, the car pulled into the Spencer Villa.

As the gate opened, they saw Sophia waiting in the yard with the help of a servant.

Seeing the car approach and Diana in the passenger seat, Sophia's weathered face lit up with joy.

Sophia excitedly greeted Diana, "Diana."

Diana's nose tingled, and her eyes felt warm.

Before the car had even come to a complete stop, she started unbuckling her seatbelt. As soon as it stopped, she jumped out.

"Mrs. Spencer!" Diana ran to Sophia and hugged her tightly.

Though she hugged her tightly, Diana was careful not to hurt Sophia.

Surprised by the sudden hug, Sophia was momentarily stunned, but then her smile grew even brighter.

Sophia patted Diana's shoulder. "Diana, show me your marriage certificate first. I need to see it to believe this isn't a dream!"

Two days ago, when Howard told Sophia that Diana had rejected his proposal, she had been so upset she couldn't sleep.

Then last night, Howard told her that Diana had agreed, leaving her unsure whether to believe him.

"Mrs. Spencer, it's not a dream. I really married Howard," Diana said, taking out the marriage certificate and handing it to Sophia.

Sophia, her hands trembling with excitement, took it and opened it. Seeing that it was indeed a real marriage certificate, she finally felt at ease.

Sophia's eyes filled with tears of joy as she looked at Diana with a heart full of love. "Good, Diana, you're finally my granddaughter-in-law. You can stop calling me Mrs. Spencer and just call me Grandma. Now I can spoil you properly!"

Hearing this, Diana's eyes instantly reddened.

Diana looked at Sophia with tears in her eyes. "Grandma, thank you!"
