Chapter 4

Sophia picked up the phone. "Hello?"

"Did you like what went down at Riverside Apartments? Believe it now? I'm here to help you get revenge." The voice on the other end was distorted by a voice changer.

"There's another show tonight at 9 PM at the pavilion by Willow River. You'll love it." The call ended with a click.

There was a building by Willow River, and Kurt's trading company was located on the 13th floor of that building.

Sophia had a hectic day. Interning at the hospital's emergency center required not just a high degree but also the stamina to handle the tough work.

After her shift, her mentor, Benjamin White, the deputy director of the emergency center, called her over.

He smiled and said, "Sophia, in six months, you'll graduate. Once you do, you can stay and work here."

Benjamin continued, "Don't worry about the hard work. I've already applied for your relocation allowance from the hospital."

PhD graduates who stayed in the city for work could get a relocation allowance, which was a big deal for her.

But Sophia didn't have a home anymore. Her mom was murdered, and her dad was gone too.

After work, she heard Jeremy Wright from the dental department calling her.

Sophia initially pretended not to hear, but Jeremy ran up to her and called out, "Sophia, I heard you had some trouble yesterday. Is it sorted out?"

He had a bright smile on his face.

The dental department was the most profitable and friendly in the hospital, letting this rich kid keep his innocent look.

"I sent you a message, but you didn't reply, so I came to find you after work to see if I could help." He looked at her hopefully.

Sophia thought Jeremy might have a crush on her, maybe even wanted to date her.

The dental department was half an hour away from the emergency center. If he wasn't interested, he wouldn't have come all this way.

Then he said, "There's a show at Central Plaza tonight. Come with me. I heard there will be celebrities."

He was asking her out. Sophia felt she didn't deserve a boyfriend, let alone marriage. So, she needed to give him a reason to back off.

"Dr. Wright, I like a big one," she said.

"Big?" Jeremy blushed and stammered. He quickly tried to prove himself, "Mine isn't small. It's thick and long. Should I take off my pants and show you?"

Jeremy stepped in front of her, blocking her path, and put his hands on his belt.

"If you dare to show it, I'll cut it off with my scalpel," Sophia said calmly.

Jeremy quickly removed his hands from his belt. He tentatively asked, "So, what do you mean?"

"I like older men. You look too young, more like a high schooler," Sophia said, looking at Jeremy.

"Good older men are already taken, while the bad ones who seek mistresses after marriage, often with twisted minds or multiple affairs, show no loyalty at all," Jeremy anxiously advised.

"If there's a widowed older man, I can accept him. In any case, my partner can't be younger than me," Sophia said.

"Actually, I'm older than you. If you don't believe me, I can show you my ID." Jeremy anxiously rummaged through his bag for his ID.

Sophia took the chance to slip away, running to the bus stop. Just in time, the bus she was waiting for arrived, and she quickly got on.

At the police station, Robert was reviewing Sophia's investigation file.

She had asked about rental information at Riverside Apartments before.

She also inquired about job openings at Kurt's company.

The second perpetrator of the old abuse case had now become a very successful entrepreneur, with a good reputation and achievements in the industry.

Robert and Ethan went to Kurt's company. He was well-dressed and well-maintained, looking very spirited.

He and Tony looked very similar in appearance and build, but Kurt was a bit more muscular.

"The year your mother passed away, did you have any contact with your brother Tony after you fell out?" Ethan asked.
