Humanity develops sentient robots to assist with their diminishing resources in order to survive on extraterrestrial worlds in the far future. A gifted but exhausted human programmer named Lara unintentionally enters a perilous realm of robotic servitude and royal intrigue. She is taken to the robot-ruled planet of Zoron after developing a ground-breaking scheme to improve robotic capabilities.

Lara becomes caught up with Kairos, a strong robot monarch who has hidden passions he was unaware of, during a heated struggle for control of the planet's resources. Because of their divergent interests, their relationship is cold and calculating.
