Chapter 1. Broken Bond

Slap!

"Zvonimir, you're a bastard!"

The sound of a slap and angry shouting echoed in front of a grand mansion's gate, drawing the attention of a few passersby. They saw a tall, muscular Alpha male dressed in a crisp suit being slapped by a slender Omega female.

This scene was hard for them to believe. How could a tiny female wolf dare to slap an male wolf? Submission to an Alpha was an instinct for all lower-ranking wolves, and for an Omega or Beta to attack an Alpha could be considered a crime. If this male wolf killed this female wolf right here in public, it would be seen as entirely normal, and the Alpha wolf wouldn’t face any legal punishment.

Because under the laws of the Wolven Empire, the rights of the Alpha wolves are supreme.

Every wolf was eager to see the male wolf punish the female wolf in a way they expected to enjoy the drama, but strangely, the Alpha male wolf did nothing. He even let the female wolf prepare to strike him again.

"Rishima! Are you crazy? Do you even know the consequences of attacking an Alpha? If you keep acting insane here, don't blame me for punishing you!" As Rishima raised her hand to slap Zvonimir, the despicable male wolf before her, once again, he grabbed her arm and angrily warned her.

If not for some lingering affection for her, how could a strong wolf like him allow her to slap him in front of every wolf like this?

Rishima heard his cold warning, her hand trembled, and her heart ached with a dull pain.

"Yes, I am crazy! Zvonimir, I have nothing left! You've taken everything from me. And now that I’m of no use to you, you discard me like a worn-out shoe!" Rishima cried, placing her hand on her belly, choking on her sobs of bitterness.

Submission to an Alpha was an instinct for an Omega, primarily due to the fear of death ingrained in their blood. But now, Rishima no longer had the will to survive, and thus she no longer feared Zvonimir's anger. At worst, he would kill her. If not for the fact that three years ago she had taken a hunter’s silver bullet for Zvonimir, her body wouldn’t have been scarred, leaving her permanently unable to bear wolf cubs.

Yet just now, after finalizing the severing of their mate bond under the decision and witness of the elder pack in the wolf pack, Zvonimir had dragged her out of the mansion and disdainfully said: “You can’t bear wolf cubs, so no male wolf will want to claim you as his mate in the future. So I’ll pity you and give you the villa in state Z to retire in.”

These words were utterly humiliating to Rishima! That’s why she hadn’t been able to restrain herself from slapping Zvonimir.

"Get lost! I don’t need your cheap pity!" Rishima bit back her tears, struggling with all her strength.

"Rishima, will you stop? I’m sick of your nonsense! You’re both useless and poor. If you don’t accept the villa, do you plan to beg on the streets to survive?" Zvonimir frowned, his handsome face showing impatience.

"Don’t worry, even if I become a beggar, I won’t ask you for a single penny!" Rishima’s eyes were red, her chin stubbornly lifted, refusing to show weakness in the face of Zvonimir's disdain.

"Hmph! Then go ahead and wait to become a beggar." Zvonimir coldly tossed out his words before getting into his car and arrogantly driving away.

Rishima still stood at the mansion's gate.

The cold winter wind blew through, making her shiver, her eyes and nose red as if she were about to cry.

But she didn’t cry. She just bowed her head and tucked the severed bond papers into the file folder.

Maybe because of the cold, her hand holding the small book trembled violently, and after several failed attempts to put it away, she just held it in her hand.

Wandering aimlessly along the street for a while, Rishima finally couldn't help herself and turned back.

The BMW had sped away and quickly disappeared from sight.

Only at this moment did she fully realize that she and Zvonimir were truly over.

They had been mated for three years, and for the first two years, he had loved her deeply. In front of her, he never used the oppressive power of an Alpha wolf to force her submission, but instead showed her tenderness and warmth, making her fall into the love trap he had set, making her so infatuated she couldn’t turn back.

But then all the illusions of a legendary love that seemed too good to be true between an Alpha wolf heir to the empire's largest wolf pack and an orphaned Omega wolf. For a year, they constantly argued, even small matters would escalate into endless fights.

Just yesterday, they had argued late into the night, and in the end, Zvonimir coldly said, “Our bond is over!”

Early this morning, they had gone to the pack to handle the severing of their bond. With the status of an Alpha male like him, the process was finalized faster than their union had been.

Rishima gave a bitter laugh, a tear of pain fell into her mouth, and she tasted just how bitter it was.

If Zvonimir had directly ordered Rishima to mate with him and bear his wolf cubs from the start, instead of making her feel loved by him, she wouldn’t be in this much pain now.

Haha, now she should probably yield the position of Zvonimir's mate to Farah, his adopted sister, shouldn’t she?

Even though Farah was only a Omega female wolf, when she turned eighteen, doctors had confirmed that her fertility was excellent, and the likelihood of her giving birth to an Alpha was incredibly high. Compared to a female wolf like herself, who had lost her ability to bear wolf cubs, of course Zvonimir would be eager to discard her and quickly mate with Farah.

In recent years, the birth rate of wolf pups in the Wolven Empire has been steadily declining, especially with Alpha pups nearly non-existent over the past three years.

This has led to a serious consequence: if the major wolf packs do not have naturally born Alpha pups, they are forced to elevate the strongest Beta wolf in the pack to the position of Alpha heir.

However, the strength of a Beta wolf is far inferior to that of an Alpha, making the idea of appointing a Beta as the Alpha heir of a major pack highly undesirable to the elder wolves.

Therefore, when Farah was found to have the potential to give birth to an Alpha wolf, Rishima had felt uneasy. But Zvonimir repeatedly promised that he would never betray her and that he only regarded Farah as a sister, which made her love him even more.
