Chapter 4: Birth Control Pills

The sports car sped along and soon came to a halt in front of an administrative building. Amelia stared at the gold-leafed "New York City Hall" sign at the entrance, her eyes nearly bulging out of their sockets.

"Get out and come in with me to get married," Oliver said.

Married?

Amelia's mind went blank, and she stared at the man opposite her in disbelief. "Oliver, are you crazy?"

She was actually going to register her marriage with him. What about Chloe Parker?

"You have a fiancée. How can you marry me?" Her face turned extremely ugly, and she turned to open the car door to escape.

Oliver pulled her back, his tone flat. "No fiancée, Amelia. In this life, you will never escape from me again."

Amelia looked shocked. What did he just say, no fiancée? What about Chloe Parker...

There was no time to think more. She had already been escorted by Oliver, his arm around her waist, out of the car and towards the lobby.

"Sign here."

Oliver pushed the registration form and a pen in front of Amelia.

The staff member in charge looked at this good-looking couple with curiosity, his eyes full of gossip.

Amelia didn't move, her mind racing, and immediately put on a face of pain. "I really need to use the restroom, I can't hold it in any longer!"

Oliver narrowed his eyes, his tone dangerous. "Amelia, stop testing my patience."

Amelia looked up at him, a mocking smile tugging at her lips. "Don't worry, I won't run. You know how much I like you."

Six years ago, she was full of a girl's hopes, wishing he would marry her. But his cold words, "You've overstepped," plunged her into an abyss.

Now, thinking back, she was so foolish back then!

Oliver was taken aback by her words, a complex emotion appearing in his eyes.

He knew, of course, how dependent his Amelia was on him. So six years ago, he never thought she would leave without saying goodbye, and she was gone for a full six years.

In the six years he was absent, the flower he had raised seemed to have grown from a parasitic vine into a rose with thorns.

"You may go, but don't make me wait too long," Oliver finally agreed to her request, as if to make up for the past six years.

Amelia let out a sigh of relief and quickly walked towards the direction of the restroom.

Entering the women's restroom, she happened to meet a staff member who also came to use the restroom. She quickly grabbed the person, "Excuse me, is there a back door here that I can use to go out?"

The staff member looked at her strangely and replied, "There is a safety passage at the back of the restroom."

"Thank you!" Amelia was overjoyed, repeatedly expressing her gratitude, and immediately sprinted towards the safety passage at the back door.

In the lobby, Oliver waited and waited but did not see Amelia return. A bad premonition immediately arose in his heart.

He went to the entrance of the women's restroom and stopped a passerby who came out, inquiring and finding out that there was no one inside at all!

Oliver's face immediately darkened, his black eyes brewing with thick anger.

Well! His little flower had really grown up, and her courage had become fatter!

When I catch you back, how should I punish you?

On the other side, Amelia left the city hall and immediately hailed a taxi.

Sitting in the car, she suddenly felt a sense of survival after a disaster, but her gaze would occasionally look back, fearing that the evil star might catch up at any time.

"Miss, where are you going?" The driver looked strangely at Amelia, who didn't look very good in the rearview mirror, and couldn't help asking.

Amelia came back to her senses, thought for a moment, and gave her home address.

She planned to go home to pack up and then rush to work.

The car quickly stopped in an old residential area.

Getting out of the car, Amelia did not immediately go home but first went to the pharmacy downstairs of the community.

"Give me a box of emergency contraceptives," she said to the staff.

The staff member was watching a short video and asked without lifting his head, "Which brand do you want?"

"The most effective one," Amelia said without hesitation.

He didn't remember whether Oliver had taken any measures last night, but she couldn't gamble. She had lost once and couldn't bear it a second time.

The staff member finally looked up, gave her a strange look, and turned to get a box of medicine.

"40 dollars, take two at a time, and then take another one after 12 hours."

Amelia paid the money and directly took two pills out of the packaging.

Walking out of the pharmacy, she saw a familiar Passat parked not far away, Lucas's car.

Her steps instantly stopped, and her face showed a complicated look.

Lucas got out of the car, still wearing yesterday's clothes, his brows tightly wrinkled, and his eyes were dark, obviously not sleeping all night, and he had been looking for himself.

He also saw Amelia and immediately rushed over.

"Amelia, where did you go last night? Why didn't you answer the phone, don't you know how worried I am about you?" His tone was anxious, and he was about to pull her hand.

Amelia subconsciously took a step back, and the box of medicine in her hand accidentally fell to the ground.

She immediately wanted to pick it up, but Lucas took the lead.

Seeing the words on the box, his face instantly became very ugly.

Amelia saw the suppressed shock and anger in his eyes, and a strong sense of guilt rose in her heart.

Her feelings for Lucas have always been purposeful from the beginning. She knows she doesn't love him, but for the sake of her grandmother, she still agreed to be with him.

Lucas has always been very good to her, which makes her feel more indebted to him.

Now that things have come to this point, breaking up may be the best choice for both of them.

She will find another way for her grandmother's medical expenses.

She let out a long breath and said calmly, "Lucas, I'm sorry, let's break up."

Lucas suddenly stood up, his forehead veins protruding, and asked with difficulty, "Amelia, he bullied you, didn't he?"

Amelia didn't answer, knowing who "he" was in Lucas's mouth.

Lucas gave a mirthless laugh, "I should have noticed it yesterday. His eyes on you were wrong, and he treated you like that! But Amelia, I was going to propose to you yesterday!"

His expression suddenly became excited, "Amelia, don't be afraid, I will protect you. Even if Oliver has a lot of power, how can he openly rob his nephew's fiancée!"

He then tried to pull Amelia's hand.

"Who did you say was your fiancée?"

The cold voice suddenly sounded behind, and before Amelia could react, her waist was tightly held by a big hand, pulling her away from Lucas.

Lucas looked at the man who appeared out of thin air, his eyes full of hatred. He clenched his fists, his eyes red, and said, "Uncle, Amelia is my girlfriend. We have been together for almost a year and are about to get married. How can you rob your nephew's girlfriend like this? Can you face your big brother, my father?"

Ha.

Oliver looked at him, devoid of any emotion in his eyes, with a cold smirk escaping the corners of his lips.

"I robbed your girlfriend?"

His deep gaze looked at the person in his arms, his tone teasing, "Amelia, tell my dear nephew, how old were you when you were with me?"

Amelia's pupils shrank, and she looked at Oliver in shock. The feeling of being stripped and humiliated swept over her. She almost dared not look at Lucas and couldn't make a sound.

"Why? Dumb?" His blue eyes narrowed, and the hand on her waist tightened a bit.

Amelia's gaze became cold inch by inch, knowing that escaping would not solve any problem. She stared at Oliver and slowly spoke in an indifferent tone.

"I have been with Oliver since I was eighteen and became his woman."

Her expression was numb, and when those words were really spoken, she suddenly felt a moment of relief.

"But six years ago, our relationship had already ended."

"Amelia..." Lucas seemed to be hit on the head, and he was stunned there.

"Lucas, I'm sorry, I have never liked you, and I am not worth you being so good to me." Amelia looked at Lucas, her eyes filled with guilt.

Lucas gave a mirthless laugh, covered his face with both hands, and resolutely turned and left.

Amelia watched his dejected back, and her guilt became stronger.

Her heart was a bit numb, and without Lucas, her grandmother's treatment expenses became a big problem.

At this moment, Amelia just wanted to get away from her as soon as possible. She didn't look at him again and turned to leave.

But the next second, her arm was grabbed again.

She turned her head angrily and saw Oliver holding the box of contraceptives in his hand.
