Brynmor POV

"So, this is your last chance to participate in the Genetic Matching System?" asked Jazz, my assistant android, who never tired of reminding me of this every day.

"Hm." Jazz seemed annoyed by my relaxed attitude. I was simply leaning back in my anti-gravity chair, lost in thought about which woman I would choose as my genetic partner.

This choice is difficult. I do want a partner, but every time I attend this holographic event, all I see are cold stares from women through their neural-links, or those who approach just because they’re targeting a position as Co-Commander.

As Orbital Station Genesis reached its closest point, the light from the three artificial moons filled the Neutral Dome with the presence of elites from various colonies.

As usual, every year they prepared a special holopath for me. My optical sensors focused on a woman with a simple neural-link standing next to Amber.

"Is that Amber’s Beta-Engineer daughter?" I murmured, planning something. It seems like there will be something interesting tonight.

"Jazz, scan the woman with Amber."

"What’s up, Commander?"

"She's Amber's daughter. Her father is Rayner, the scientist who created the virus that destroyed my mother's immune system. Look, this traitor family dares to show up here!"

Jazz activated analysis mode, understanding my intention. One thing was clear - I had found a target for genetic synchronization.

They say, if you want to hurt someone, don’t harm their system. Break the program they cherish, and their existence will be erased.

"Fiora!" Ah, her identification code is Fiora. I remember, Amber had two genetic modifications, one with premium augmentations and the other an anomaly.

Fiora. The code must be Fiora Starfire. Tonight, your entire system will be under my control.

"Commander Brynmor! Will you choose your genetic partner tonight?" the announcer asked, looking at me with an unexplainable expression.

I stepped onto the holographic platform. The entire audience went silent, waiting. I scanned the room as some women started activating their attractive augmentation modes.

But nothing caught my sensors' attention, except for Fiora, who seemed to deactivate her neural-link to avoid eye contact. I stabilized the system; this time, I had to get my revenge.

"Fiora Starfire!" I announced over the colony network.

Everyone seemed shocked and began communicating via a closed channel. I was slightly confused. Why were they so surprised when I called Fiora's code?

"Fi... Fiora, come up." Fiora, with her standard augmentation, slowly approached.

Everyone started whispering again. I saw Amber even laughing and happy? Was something wrong with my system?

"Commander, what are you doing?" Jazz warned me over the private channel.

"I didn’t expect Commander Brynmor to choose the genetic anomaly Fiora over Freya with her premium augmentation." Laughter began to be heard, and everyone present dared to treat the situation like this.

I glanced at Fiora, who was simply looking down. Freya? Don’t tell me Fiora is a failed genetic modification.

"Commander, data shows Fiora isn’t the superior product of the Starfire family, but rather Freya." Jazz's neural-link showed tension. "Commander Devlin will be furious."

I scanned Fiora with a sharp gaze, my patience running out. How could my selection algorithm miscalculate after I planned to destroy her family? Now my system was being disrupted by the wrong genetic partner choice.

“Commander Brynmor, I’m somewhat relieved you didn’t choose Freya. At least our competition has lessened.”

Damn Commander Tori! I’ll hack her system after this! The woman with the standard neural-link beside me was silent, I was sure now her happiness program was working overtime because she was chosen.

“Fiora Starfire, Commander Brynmor has chosen you as his genetic partner and Co-Commander. You will be synchronized with—”

"Wait!" My patience had completely run out! I activated the gravity controller to lift her face. Damn, I was deceived by her standard appearance.

She merely gave me a cold stare through her neural-link; she’s challenging me? What kind of genetic anomaly am I dealing with?

"What will you do, Commander Brynmor? Are you going to synchronize our DNA right away? Haha... we all know you've been searching for a genetic partner for a long time!"

Quickly, I sent an intimidation wave through the neural-link, silencing everyone. Synchronize? She’ll be my partner? Seriously? Even my system rejected her presence!

No! No! I have to stay calm and think this through!

Even though she’s just a useless genetic anomaly, she’s still a product of the Starfire family. I can do whatever I want with her program, maybe make her a subject for experiments.

I sent a domination signal across the network. Damn! I was truly deceived, and this was a fatal error. I couldn’t cancel the synchronization!

I smiled cynically, and her fear sensors began activating. The neural-link on her neck, which hadn’t been upgraded yet, was still active. I activated the nano-injector and quickly injected my DNA into her system.

Signals from all the augmentations in the room began resonating through my network. The genetic data flow from the synchronization made me more aggressive. The other colony elites started becoming agitated, and this woman just stood still?

"Commander Brynmor has synchronized with Fiora!"

I deactivated the nano-injector, genetic fluid flowing from the port in her neck, and the woman in front of me—why was she crying and looking so shocked? She must be surprised because her system was now integrated with mine.

For some reason, after the synchronization, my augmentations reacted strangely, and the light from the Genesis Station shining down on us became blinding.

I released the gravity control from her and stepped off the holographic platform. How disgusting to have a genetic anomaly as a partner!

“Commander! You can’t leave her! She’s your genetic partner now!” I turned around and sent an intimidation wave to Jazz. The woman just held her neural-link port and then looked down again.

I scanned the area, and there, Amber and Rayner were with a woman with premium augmentations—must be Freya. I should’ve called her code, not this useless anomaly.

“Take her!” I ordered, and Jazz only confirmed. I tried to stabilize the system again.

“Commander…”

She dared to activate the communication channel? I stopped for a moment, but she didn’t continue transmitting. Never mind, it’s not important.

"Why did you synchronize my DNA?"

This was the question I’d been waiting for. I stepped closer and activated gravity control to lift her chin. “I have a special program where, when I damage my partner’s system, my augmentations reach maximum satisfaction!"
