Chapter 7

LEONA

I glared at Alpha Kane with seethed teeth. He was going to use this to his advantage. Playing me like one would play a game, using my dearest sister to achieve what he wanted. To get what he wants from me.

The smug smile was still plastered on his face even when I said that word. I wanted to tell him over and over again. “Go To Hell!!” But I tried to calm myself down even when I couldn't.

I shouldn't underestimate Alpha Kane; he can and will do whatever it takes to get what he wants from me. Keeping Fiona hostage is a way to prove that. He'd go to any length to get me to do what he wanted.

“I'm running out of patience, Leona,” He said, his voice jolting me back to reality.

He had been waiting for me to make a decision which I am not sure of yet.

One thing I know is that I wouldn't let Fiona suffer because of me. Her most trusted friend had betrayed her, Fiona had trusted and loved Gilbert so much but he let her down. He practically let the both of us down because I was always glad that Fiona had someone like him.

“I…..” I paused, swallowing so hard. It was difficult to spell it out to his face that I'd do what he wanted. But I have to do this for Fiona. She's trapped because of me.

“I will do what you want, Alpha Kane, I will be your mole in Alpha Zane's kingdom.” I declared through seethed teeth.

His laughter echoed through the hallway. It irked me, and I wished, once again, I could tear that man apart. He was laughing so scornfully at the pain piercing through my heart.

My gaze flickered to Fiona who was on the ground being held by guards. A tear slid down my face although I tried to prevent it from falling.

Our gaze locked and I couldn't help but pour out all the silent sobs I had tried to hold in.

“Nice choice you have made, Leona,” Alpha Kane said, making my heart flutter. Stupid me! He isn't my mate, he rejected me flatly yet I still shudder hearing him call my name that sweetly.

I glared at him hoping I could slide a knife at his throat like the professional assassin I had always been. But my disability wouldn't let me. And even if I wasn't disabled. I wouldn't be foolish enough to take that reckless step seeing Fiona was still being held captive by him.

His voice came, “You need to earn his trust, get close to him, then kill him, making sure he won't survive,” Alpha Kane said with a smirk, one which sent shivers down my spine.

“Alpha Kane!” I called, pouring all my hatred into the name. He stopped his long laugh, which had irked me all along; his gaze pierced through mine as our eyes locked. His blue electrifying eyes failed to do the wonders they usually do whenever I see those orbs.

“My sister…..What will happen to her?” I asked, then realized I had asked the wrong question. I quickly backtracked.

“You should release her since you already got what you want from me through your cowardly act,” I spat out, not caring what the weight of my words might come with.

“Release her? If I do, then that would be against the rule of the law here; she led a coup, remember?” Alpha Kane said, his gruff voice entering deeply into my head.

He was trying to remind me of a coup I will never be convinced that Fiona did. Fiona was not trying to defend herself, nor was Gilbert trying to defend her. But I know better than I'm witnessing…..

Alpha Kane continued, “She still has to be punished and will be kept in prison,” He said in a voice that seemed like he was declaring to the guards.

No! Fiona shouldn't be in prison, she shouldn't!

“Take her away,” I heard a loud, commanding voice say.

“No!” I yelled, but they didn't stop; they dragged her away, and I could hear her whimpering. I tried to wheel my chair towards them but was prevented by the guards who stopped me.

Fiona was dragged away completely as a pang of guilt rushed in. I realized that was probably the last time I would be seeing her before I leave the Crestwood.

I looked up at Alpha Kane again, my anger burning through my eyes.

“You are a monster, Alpha Kane, you do not deserve to be called a royal, tormenting people through your status!” I said, not calmly but I tried so hard not to yell.

“Get me everything you can on Alpha Zane's kingdom, Leona, I wish you luck!” He said with a smile, a smile anyone would fall for, a smile which hid so much deceit. A smile which the citizens could kill for defending their king if I ever tried to make any accusation.

He turned, heading back into the palace, as I watched his back. Gilbert also followed behind him, locking eyes with me one last time before he left. The eyes that were full of remorse but couldn't defend Fiona but still rat her out.

I gritted my teeth picturing me when I was still in the Creed, when I was the fierce lady I was but no longer that. One of the Creed best assassin's. Seeing Alpha Kane walked back into the palace. The thought of stabbing him from behind struck me but my disability would only get me killed.

I walked out of the palace grounds heading back home as eyes were on me, all gossiping about me. Some people didn't mind saying it to my face about me being the disabled rejecteed Alpha’s mate but I didn't care. I was glad that they didn't crack raw egg shells on my body or throw vegetables at me.

All that was on my mind was how to get to Alpha Zane's kingdom, how to carry out the mission Alpha Kane had just handed over to me.
