Chapter 6
The person standing next to Arthur was none other than Ava.
One couldn't avoid his enemy. Ella didn't expect to come across them here.
"Let's head over there," Ella said, tugging Lily away. She really didn't want to see those two together.
Even though she had already decided to get a divorce, seeing Arthur and Ava still made her heart ache.
Arthur noticed them from a distance. Even though he only saw a side profile, he recognized Ella immediately.
They had been married for a long time, and it had been a while since he had seen her all dressed up.
The dress perfectly accentuated Ella's figure.
"Arthur, what are you staring at?" Ava asked, noticing Arthur gazing into the distance.
Arthur snapped back to reality. "Nothing."
"Arthur, I see a friend over there; I'm going to say hi."
Arthur nodded, watching Ava walk away.
He started walking in the direction where Ella had gone.
The banquet hall was huge, and it took Arthur a while to find Ella.
He walked over slowly, intending to ask if she had calmed down and when she would be willing to come back.
But when he spoke, his words took a different turn."Ella, what are you doing here? Did you find out I was here and follow me?"
Lily scoffed, "You really are full of yourself. Do you think you're gold and everyone wants to stick to you?"
"I suggest you go to the hospital and get your brain checked. There might be something wrong," Ella said seriously, looking at Arthur.
"Sign the divorce papers as soon as possible so I can schedule a time to go to court."
Looking into Ella's eyes, Arthur realized she was serious.
After a long pause, Arthur finally spoke, "Are you serious? Are you sure you want to divorce me?"
Ella was tired of hearing these words.
"Of course, do you think I'm just throwing a tantrum with you?"
Arthur was taken aback; that was exactly what he thought.
"Are you reluctant to get a divorce or let me go?" Ella said with a sarcastic smile.
Provoked by her words, Arthur decisively said, "See you in court at 10 AM in three days."
Hearing this, Ella still felt a pang of bitterness in her heart.
She had thought Arthur would try to persuade her, but it seemed he was eager to get a divorce.
Ava had said they were getting married soon.
Composing herself, Ella raised her head. "It's a deal. Whoever doesn't show up is a coward."
With that, she pulled Lily and turned to leave.
The two of them sat in a corner, and seeing Ella's low spirits, Lily asked, "Are you really going to divorce Arthur?"
Ella nodded, "Arthur is probably eager to get a divorce."
She knew their marriage was a mistake, and now she was cutting her losses in time.
"If you get divorced, so be it. With your qualities, you'll find someone better and more considerate. Why waste time on a jerk like Arthur?"
Lily waved her hand, ready to introduce other men to Ella.
Seeing her like this, Ella couldn't help but laugh, and her sadness in her heart disappeared.
"I see there's some red wine over there. Let's go get a glass."
Hearing the word "wine," Ella instinctively thought of what happened at Drunken Dream that day.
Just as she was about to refuse, Lily pulled her over.
As they turned around with their glasses, they didn't notice someone walking up behind them.
They looked up and saw it was Ava, as the wine in her glass spilled all over Ella's dress.
Seeing it was her, Lily immediately snapped, "Can't you watch where you're going?"
"I didn't do it on purpose. Couldn't you two watch where you're going?" Ava shot back.
"How ridiculous. Who has eyes on the back of their head? Clearly, you bumped into us, and now you're acting all righteous?"
Their argument quickly drew a crowd, including Arthur.
He walked over and heard Lily's voice.
Pushing through the crowd, he saw Ella in a sorry state; her white dress was stained.
"What happened?" Arthur asked, standing next to Ava but keeping his eyes on Ella.
"Arthur, I just accidentally bumped into them," Ava said, looking all innocent and aggrieved, completely different from moments ago.
Even Lily was surprised by Ava's change in expression.
"I'll pay for the dress," Ava said, looking like she had suffered a great injustice.
Others started pointing and whispering at Lily and Ella.
Lily wanted to explain, but Ella stopped her. Then Ella stepped forward. "You bumped into me and spilled wine all over my dress. Compensation is expected. Don't act like you're the one who suffered. And you should apologize to us."
Ella's tone was calm and composed as she clearly explained the situation.
The people who had been pointing fingers at them now turned their criticism towards Ava.
Ava had never endured such humiliation before; she could only cast her gaze upon Arthur for help.
"I'll have the new dress sent to your Worry-Free Studio. Ava didn't do it on purpose," Arthur said, clearly defending Ava.
Ella smiled faintly, "No apology is fine, but I can't guarantee Ms. Worry-Free will still take your orders. After all, your character is..."
She left the sentence unfinished.
Then she looked at them calmly. After a long hesitation, Ava finally stepped forward. "I'm sorry, I accidentally bumped into you."
After the apology, the matter was settled.
As Ella's dress was ruined, Ella and Lily decided to leave.
On the way back, Lily laughed, "Ms. Worry-Free's reputation really comes in handy."
Ella couldn't help but laugh too. She hadn't expected it.
It seemed Ava really cared about her wedding dress.
On the day of the divorce, Ella got up early.
She dressed up carefully before driving to the court.
Thinking that after today she would have no ties to Arthur, she still felt a bit reluctant.
In her moment of daze, she felt a sudden jolt as the car behind her rear-ended her due to a late brake.
Ella pursed her lips, parked her car, and got out.
The driver of the car behind her, a woman, also got out and walked straight to the front of her own car to check the damage.
Ella stood aside, seeing she was a woman too, she didn't rush her.
After checking, the woman rolled her eyes at Ella. "Hey, can't you pay attention while driving?"
Ella had intended to settle it privately, but seeing the woman's unreasonable attitude, she decided to call the police.
Ella, the driver who rear-ended her, Sophia Brown, and the police officer who arrived all went to the police station.
The police determined it was Sophia's fault, and she compensated Ella with three thousand dollars.
Because of the accident, the divorce had to be postponed.
After leaving the police station, Ella drove straight home.
She charged her phone, turned it on, and removed Arthur's number from the blacklist.
