Chapter 11 Amnesia
Everyone noticed Lewis and Simon's eyes drifting this way, and naturally assumed they were looking at Laura.
"Laura, are Simon and Mr. Lewis Windsor checking you out?"
"Seems like it. I mean, who else here would they know besides Laura?"
Laura was the only one among these singers with a wealthy background, making her the obvious center of attention.
"Don't be silly, I just have a project with Simon." Laura was secretly thrilled and couldn't resist showing off a bit.
She didn't think she was lying, as she was convinced that with Aria's song, a Dream Awards nomination was practically hers.
"Really? What kind of project?"
Everyone was buzzing with curiosity.
"Oh, nothing big, just a few competitions." Laura's voice was just loud enough for those nearby to catch.
"Laura, you're incredible!"
"You're from a rich family and the hottest singer right now, you're a success in life!"
Everyone looked at Laura with even more admiration, their attitudes becoming more sycophantic.
"I'm just fortunate." Laura said, pretending to be modest.
Listening to the compliments, Laura's smile grew more smug.
At this moment, Laura had completely forgotten that her fame was all thanks to Aria.
On stage, Simon and Lewis had no idea their glances were causing the female singers to daydream.
"Lewis, Aria's also competing." Simon signaled Lewis with eyes to look in Aria's direction.
Lewis glanced at Simon in response.
"She looks pretty today, but those scars on her face kinda ruin the vibe." Simon said with a smile.
"Are you really interested in her?" Lewis glanced at Simon, finding his smile particularly annoying.
Simon's face stiffened for a moment, then he quickly explained, "Of course not! I pay attention to her only because she's your future wife."
Lewis just gave him a faint look, then kept his eyes on Aria.
Seeing he had dodged a bullet, Simon decided to keep teasing Lewis.
"Lewis, let's bet. Who do you think will win today's selection?" Simon asked quietly.
Without hesitation, Lewis answered, "Aria."
Simon was shocked.
How boring! How did Lewis guess it right?
But after the shock, Simon's face showed a hint of suspicion.
"Lewis, you didn't rig the results, did you?"
He hadn't even mentioned that Aria was Amnesia, so how did Lewis know Aria would win?
Lewis glanced at him upon hearing this.
"I'm just saying, Lewis, you're not that kind of person!" Simon quickly corrected himself.
With Lewis's intimidating presence, sitting next to him felt more stressful than being one of the contestants today!
However, despite the jokes, Simon knew that Lewis wouldn't stoop to rigging results.
He could only chalk it up to the telepathy between an engaged couple.
Simon wanted to say more, but it was Laura's turn to perform on stage.
Laura looked at Simon and Lewis, confidently walking to the center of the stage.
With the lights focused on her, Laura basked in the spotlight.
She secretly turned on the pre-prepared recording device, but to her shock, the device that had never failed before was now silent.
Laura's face went pale, and in that split second of pause, she missed the first beat of the lyrics.
Panicking, Laura had no choice but to sing on her own.
Everyone knew Laura was the most talented among the singers, but tonight, her performance was a disaster.
The live broadcast chat exploded, the comment section filled with insults.
[What is she singing? It's awful!]
[I'm dying of laughter, is this your hottest singer? All hype from fans, I bet.]
[Could it be that the show wants other singers to win and deliberately messed with Laura's voice?]
[Fans, wake up! Simon is sitting up there, who would dare to fake it?]
The live comments were displayed in real-time on the big screen next to the stage, and Laura's face turned even paler the moment she saw.
"I'm sorry everyone, I've had a cold these past few days, and my voice is hoarse, that's why it sounds like this." Laura knew she had botched the song, so she quickly stopped singing and started explaining.
But no one was buying it; Laura's speaking voice was fine, so even if her voice was affected, it shouldn't sound this bad.
Only her die-hard fans continued to defend her.
During the scoring phase, only the judge Laura had bribed gave her a high score, while the other judges gave her a zero without hesitation.
"Some people have impure intentions and just want to take shortcuts. Now, their true colors are revealed." Simon couldn't help but mock Laura, remembering what Aria had said to him before.
Billy, seeing this from the audience, glared at Aria and loudly accused, "Aria, you must have sabotaged this. Why did you do this to Laura?"
Although he was angry, he couldn't openly mention the lip-syncing, as it would be bad for both him and Laura.
Hearing Billy's words, others looked at Aria in confusion.
"Aria, I know you're jealous of me, but you can't do this. It's all because of you that I caught a cold and my voice is ruined." Laura quickly took the opportunity to cry and complain.
"So it was her doing this, how awful!"
"She's just jealous that Laura is better than her, such a person is truly scary!"
Everyone was misled by Laura, thinking that Aria had deliberately done something to harm Laura.
The host quickly came on stage to continue the process, "Next, let's welcome the singer Amnesia."
Amnesia! An online singer whose popularity far surpassed Laura's, but she had always been low-key and rarely participated in offline events. So, even if she didn't have as many fans as Laura, her influence in the music industry was undeniable.
This competition was essentially Amnesia's first public appearance.
Therefore, all eyes turned to the waiting area, eager to see Amnesia's true face.
Under everyone's surprised gazes, Aria slowly stood up and walked towards the stage.
Laura and Billy's eyes widened in disbelief.
"Aria, this is Amnesia, you can't impersonate her. Get down." Laura mocked Aria.
Aria didn't even glance at Laura, gracefully walking to the center of the stage.
And in Laura's disbelief, the host smiled, picked up the microphone, and excitedly announced, "Let's welcome Amnesia—Aria York, to the stage!"
