Chapter 25 New Product Launch Event
"Billy, isn't that Laura? Let's go say hi!" Aria shouted, covering her mouth like she was shocked.
Billy's face went pale. He rushed over, throwing out his hand to stop Aria.
"Don't go, Aria." His eyes were full of panic.
"Billy, that's Laura. I need to check on her." Aria frowned, looking confused.
Sweat started to form on Billy's forehead. He was freaking out.
He was scared Laura was here for a prenatal checkup. If Aria found out, it would be a disaster.
"It might just be someone with the same name. You're not feeling well right now, so take care of yourself first." Billy tried to sound calm, but he was stammering.
Aria firmly insisted. She stared at Billy, clearly annoyed.
"What if it is Laura? She's in a hospital gown. Something must be wrong. I have to check on her." With that, she pushed past Billy and kept walking.
Billy, panicking, tried to grab Aria again, but she shook him off.
Just then, Billy's eyes landed on Duke, who was with Laura.
Duke stood there nervously, looking around and trying to avoid something.
Billy was stunned, his eyes wide with disbelief.
He never thought he'd see Duke and Laura together here.
Billy felt like he was glued to the spot, his mind blank.
Meanwhile, Aria had caught up and called out, "Laura!"
Laura, sitting in a wheelchair pushed by Duke, looked up at Aria's voice, her eyes filled with surprise and fear.
She started trembling, gripping the wheelchair's armrests tightly, her face going pale.
Duke, seeing Aria, got super nervous. He couldn't let anyone know about his and Laura's situation.
In a panic, Duke let go of the wheelchair and bolted down the corridor, not looking back.
He left behind a disheveled figure as he fled.
Aria quickly stepped forward. Her eyes locked on the medical record in Laura's hand, and she snatched it away.
Aria's eyes scanned the medical record, and when she saw the word "miscarriage," her eyes widened in shock and confusion.
"Laura, what's going on? How could you have a miscarriage?" Aria raised her voice on purpose.
She wanted to make sure Billy heard.
Billy also rushed over, equally shocked as he looked at Laura.
His eyes were filled with mixed emotions—surprise, confusion, and suspicion.
He couldn't believe Laura would let another man accompany her for an abortion.
Laura kept her head down, avoiding Aria and Billy's eyes.
With Aria there, Laura didn't dare to reveal that the child was her and Billy's.
"I didn't want this either. It was an accident..." she stammered.
"An accident? What's going on with you and Duke? How could you be with him? Is his baby?" Aria asked, pretending to be concerned.
She handed the medical record back to Laura, a sly smile in her eyes.
"Why are you here?" Laura quickly changed the subject.
Laura felt a bit relieved. Now that the baby was gone, she couldn't let Aria suspect Billy.
Billy stood there, listening to Laura, but his suspicion was growing.
Seeing Laura all flustered reminded him of those photos he had seen of her with Duke before.
Billy thought, 'Maybe the baby was Duke's.'
He frowned, his eyes darkening with displeasure.
"Laura, you are quite capable of doing this." Billy said coldly, his eyes full of disappointment.
Laura looked up, her eyes brimming with tears. "Billy, I..."
Aria watched them, silently thinking.
"Aria, you're still not feeling well. Go see a doctor, don't wait. I'll handle things here. I'll take Laura back to her room." Billy whispered to Aria.
Billy was suspicious but couldn't believe Laura would actually do something like this.
Aria looked at Billy, then at the pitiful Laura.
"Alright, let me know if anything happens." With that, she turned and walked towards the clinic.
Billy watched Aria disappear around the corner before turning to Laura.
Without a word, he pushed Laura's wheelchair, heading quickly to her hospital room.
Once inside, Billy slammed the door shut.
He walked over to Laura, gripping the wheelchair's armrests tightly.
"Laura, tell me the truth. What's going on with you and him?" Billy's angry eyes bore into Laura.
Laura had prepared herself, looking up at Billy with tearful eyes. "Billy, don't you get it? That day, I heard you and Aria flirting. I felt abandoned, completely hopeless." As she spoke, tears streamed down her face.
Billy felt a sharp pain in his heart, his anger melting into guilt.
"Laura, it's my fault. I shouldn't have made you feel sad." Billy whispered.
He let go of the wheelchair's armrests, slowly squatting down and holding Laura's hand, his eyes full of remorse.
Laura, still sobbing, pulled her hand back, covering her face and choking out, "That baby was supposed to be the symbol of our love, but now..."
Billy sighed, gently hugging Laura.
As Laura's sobs started to fade, he comforted her, "Laura, don't cry. We can have another baby. I promise, I'll treat you well and never let you get hurt again."
On the day of the new product launch, Laura had already been discharged.
She dressed up meticulously, wearing a glamorous evening gown and dazzling jewelry.
As she got out of the car, she struck an elegant pose, catching everyone's attention.
Reporters were everywhere, cameras flashing, creating a grand spectacle.
Billy stood backstage, watching the lively scene outside, feeling a vague sense of unease.
Even with the engagement party tomorrow, the launch shouldn't be this sizzling.
