Chapter 6 Is She Really His Girl?
Laura was so freaked out that she started bawling, tears streaming down her face. "Billy, I swear, I don't know! I love you so much, how could I ever betray you?"
Billy, fuming, shot back, "The evidence is right here, what more can you say?"
Aria, watching this whole mess unfold, felt a bit of her earlier frustration melt away. It was pretty clear that Lewis had ordered the hit on Billy. Nice job, Lewis.
Just as Aria was about to slip away, Laura spotted her and pointed, eyes blazing with anger and resentment. "It's her, it has to be Aria! She's jealous of us and set me up."
Now everyone was staring at Aria.
"Aria, you're so cruel! Just because Billy treats me better than you, you're jealous and want to ruin me! Framing me with those fake pictures was bad enough, but now you even sent your lover Duke to mess with my reputation." If Aria wasn't the one being accused, she might have applauded Laura's performance.
Billy looked doubtful. "Did you do it?"
"No!" Aria denied, her eyes wide with innocence and hurt. "Billy, you are aware that I don't even know Duke, how could he follow my instructions?"
Billy knew Aria was innocent, sincehe was the one who had her take the fall for the scandal's real protagonist.
"You're lying! It has to be you. It didn't make sense that Duke would just show up in my dressing room, I..." Laura trailed off, panicking.
She couldn't admit in front of everyone that she intended to frame Aria but failed, and got caught in her own trap. That would be the end of her.
Aria laughed, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Seems like you and Duke are pretty close. The scandal was real, those photos weren't fake, they were found in a journalist's email. Want to see the proof?" Aria waved her phone.
"Laura! How could you lie to me?" Billy's face twisted with rage, like he'd caught his wife cheating.
"No, Billy, please believe me. We've been together for so long, don't you know what kind of person I am?" Laura pleaded, terrified of Billy's anger.
Aria, pretending to be disappointed, said, "So many years? Billy, I thought Laura was just seducing you. I didn't know you two had been together for so long behind my back."
Laura realized she had slipped up but decided to go all in. Why should Aria get to be Billy's fiancée while she had been the mistress for years?
She cried pitifully, "Aria, Billy and I truly love each other. If you want to blame someone, blame me."
Aria, more than happy to play along, said, "Since you two love each other so much, I'm willing to step aside and let you be together."
Laura was stunned. Aria didn't go crazy or insult her as expected? How was she supposed to continue?
Laura's face twisted for a second. "Aria, you're giving Billy up so easily? Do you not care about him at all?"
Aria found it hilarious. "You are truly in love. If I don't step aside, wouldn't that break Billy's heart? For Billy's happiness, I have to endure the pain."
She slowly turned to Billy, her eyes showing a hint of reluctance.
Billy was speechless under her gaze. Did Aria love him so much that she was willing to give up everything for him?
Aria lowered her head and said, "Billy, since Laura claims you two are in love, from now on, you're no longer my fiancé. Our engagement is off."
The crowd's disdain for Laura grew. Seducing her sister's fiancé was unforgivable, but still shamelessly asking Aria to give him up? That was a new low.
Billy's parents looked grim. The dignified and graceful Aria was a stark contrast to Laura, who was caught cheating. Of course, they would chose Aria as their daughter-in-law!
"Aria, you've been wronged. Billy's fiancée will only be you," Billy's father said, stepping forward to comfort her, looking heartbroken.
"It's my misfortune that I can't be your daughter-in-law," Aria said, lowering her head even more to hide her almost uncontrollable joy. She had no desire to become part of the Fisher family.
"This is all a misunderstanding. How could we let this woman marry Billy?" Billy's mother agreed. She turned to Laura, eyes full of anger. "You shameless woman, how dare you seduce my son and try to ruin his engagement!"
"Mrs. Fisher, it's not like that!" Laura cried.
Billy realized he couldn't lose Aria. Her status and position were still very beneficial to his career. "Aria, don't be angry. Laura and I have nothing to do with each other. She's lying. The only one I love is you." He quickly walked to Aria's side, trying to salvage the situation.
"Billy, do you really not love Laura?" Aria hesitated, almost disgusted by Billy's shamelessness but still pretending to be in a difficult position, her eyes moving between Billy and Laura.
"Aria, don't you trust me? Our relationship can't be interfered with by others. Besides, Laura and this Duke were fooling around in front of everyone. How could I love her?" Billy anxiously reached out to grab Aria's arm, trying to prove his sincerity.
Seeing this, Aria quickly pretended to wipe her tears, skillfully avoiding his hand.
Hearing Billy's heartless words, Laura trembled with anger. She never expected that the Billy she loved so deeply would abandon her at this moment and choose Aria. Laura felt a sharp pain in her heart, her vision went black, and she fainted.
"Laura!" Ruth screamed, quickly having people move aside and taking Laura away.
This farce temporarily ended in chaos and noise. However, Aria's plan was not yet complete.
"I want to resign from the position of general manager of the Fisher Group," she said, looking at Billy with a hint of determination in her eyes.
"What?" The Fisher family was shocked. Everyone knew that the Fisher Group's current success was all thanks to Aria, and she had worked diligently, only taking a base salary for three years.
Aria pretended to be sad. "I need to calm down because of today's drama of Billy and Laura. Let's postpone the engagement to next week."
Given the embarrassing scene in front of so many guests, the Fisher family had no choice but to agree through gritted teeth.
In another monitoring room, Lewis sat quietly in front of the screen, watching the whole story. His deep, ocean-like eyes flashed with admiration. But at the same time, a hint of doubt arose in his heart. Was Aria really Clea?
