Chapter 6

Raymond's face darkened in an instant.

Ryan stood off to the side, not daring to make a peep.

"This guy's pretty generous," Raymond sneered.

Anyone who could buy a house in this city without a second thought had to be loaded.

Raymond's fingers tightened around the photo. The Margaret in the picture had no trace of that coldness she had shown him.

Ryan cautiously stepped forward and laid the info he'd gathered in front of Raymond.

"Mr. Seymour, this is the scoop on that guy. His name's Wesley Johnson, president of Apex Global Enterprises. He owns sixty percent of the shares. He's sharp and smooth in business, got a good rep. Under his watch, Apex Global's profits have been climbing."

Ryan was so focused on his report that he almost bit his tongue when he saw Raymond's clenched fists.

Raymond mocked, "No wonder Margaret changed her mind last minute. Looks like she's got a big shot backing her now."

She'd been desperate to get back to Rainbowland. If she suddenly decided to stay, Wesley must mean a lot to her.

Ryan swallowed hard, unsure if he should keep going.

"Go on," Raymond took a calm sip of coffee, but his face betrayed his anger.

Ryan continued, "Mr. Seymour, the reason Ms. Neville stayed is because Mr. Johnson's company has some issues. She's from the headquarters of Apex Global Enterprises. Basically, Ms. Neville is Wesley's boss, and she stayed to help him sort out some company stuff."

A flicker of surprise crossed Raymond's eyes.

He thought, 'How can it be? Isn't Margaret staying to get more out of Wesley?'

Raymond snorted, "Margaret's helping the president of Apex Global Enterprises run the company? What a joke. I know Margaret's capabilities all too well."

Margaret had only been away from him for four years, but he'd always kept an eye on her before. He knew her skills well. How could she possibly manage such a big company?

Raymond added, "Is Wesley head over heels for Margaret? Does he want his company to tank faster by letting her run it?"

Even though Raymond was fuming, Ryan had to finish his report. "Mr. Seymour, Mr. Johnson is very cautious. I also found out his company has hit some snags recently. If Ms. Neville couldn't fix them, he wouldn't waste time on her now."

His point was clear. Margaret must be really good; otherwise, Wesley wouldn't risk his company for her.

Ryan wanted to say more, but he felt a chill and saw Raymond's murderous glare. He immediately shut up.

Meanwhile, at Margaret's place

The morning breeze gently moved the white curtains, and the strands of hair on Margaret's young, delicate face danced along.

She lazily stretched out her arm to pull the quilt, wanting to go back to sleep.

But the next second, she felt a little weight pressing on the quilt.

"Mom, don't sleep anymore. The breakfast Brady made is getting cold," Liberty wobbled on Margaret, her soft cheeks making Margaret want to kiss her.

"Being as young as you is great; no jet lag to deal with," Margaret stretched and then sat up.

"Mom, are you complimenting me?" Liberty came closer, holding a tablet and swiping with her finger.

Margaret smiled, "Yes, I'm complimenting you, my sweetie. By the way, Liberty, I've enrolled you in a school here. You can start tomorrow."

She planned to stay in Crystaland with Liberty for six months, and during this time, Liberty's education couldn't be put on hold.

Even though Liberty was exceptionally smart and ahead of her peers, she still needed to go to school.

"Mom, are you talking about the school near our villa?" Liberty tilted her head and asked.

Margaret nodded, getting out of bed and tidying her messy hair.

Liberty said, "But Mom, I just canceled the enrollment for that school. I don't want to go there; I want to go to Sunshine Preschool on Cedar Lane."

Hearing this, Margaret frowned.

She took the tablet and searched the school Liberty mentioned, immediately understanding Liberty's thoughts.

That school was on the way to Raymond's company.

Margaret glanced at Liberty. Her plan to see Raymond was obvious.

"No, I'll re-enroll you later. You won't miss your class tomorrow," Margaret refused without a second thought.

"Mom, my dear mom, my beautiful and generous mom, my kind and gentle mom who never gets angry, please agree. As long as you let me go to Sunshine Preschool, I promise I won't run around anymore," Liberty raised her little hand as if swearing, blinking her big eyes earnestly.

Margaret deliberately put on a stern face. "You're already in a new country, as you wish. Where else do you want to run?"

As soon as Margaret finished speaking, there was a knock on the door. Brady opened it, and a familiar male voice came through, making Margaret's heart skip a beat.

She had just moved into the villa. How did Raymond know the address?

"Liberty, stay in the bedroom and don't come out. I have something to deal with," Suppressing her inner agitation, Margaret walked out calmly.

She asked Raymond in a cold voice, "What are you doing here?"

Raymond stood at the door, his eyes involuntarily scanning Margaret in her silk pajamas.

After four years, Margaret's figure, even after having a child, was still slender and petite.

She continued, "Raymond, as far as I remember, you're not the type to pester. This is my first and last warning: don't disturb my life."

Raymond's lips curled into a slight smile. "Why can't I come? I'm not here to see you."

Margaret frowned. "This is my home. If you're not here for me, did you knock on the wrong door?"

Raymond glanced at her disdainfully, then looked around. "Margaret, don't flatter yourself. I'm here to see Liberty."

Liberty had been eavesdropping by the door, and hearing that Raymond was there for her, she was overjoyed.

She immediately ran out of the bedroom.

Margaret only saw a shadow flash by her legs before Liberty threw herself into Raymond's arms.
