Chapter 6

Sebastian closed his eyes briefly and reached out to push Adelaide away.

He never needed fake concern.

The next second, Adelaide grabbed his hand.

In Sebastian's astonished gaze, she kissed him again, but unlike the usual sweetness, this time it was mixed with a hint of salty bitterness.

Sebastian's hand, which he wanted to release, froze.

He opened his eyes and saw Adelaide's crouched body leaning up, kissing him, but her face was full of tears. She even had her eyes open, and the disappointment in them was not mixed with sympathy, but with deep heartache.

Sebastian felt a pang in his chest, and his breathing became heavier.

After a while, Adelaide finally let go of him. Sebastian took deep breaths as if trying to cover something up. Adelaide remained crouched, looking up at him, pleading, "Honey, I know you're in pain right now."

"But can you hold on a little longer? You'll regain feeling soon. You will stand up again," Adelaide said.

The pain in Adelaide's eyes seemed deeper than his, yet it was so sincere as if he really would get better.

Sebastian looked away and still pushed her away.

"Go out!" He didn't need something that he was destined to lose sooner or later; he would rather have never had it.

"Mr. Manners, something's wrong. A lot of people are downstairs, saying they're company directors and want to hold a board meeting." Ryan knocked on the door in a panic.

Sebastian frowned, pursed his lips, and his gaze darkened.

They really couldn't wait!

Sebastian didn't need to think to know what these people wanted to do.

He had originally thought they would hold on a little longer, but he didn't expect they couldn't wait even one night.

He wanted to let Ryan in, and as for Adelaide, it wasn't good to let her leave alone so late, "Tomorrow you..."

Sebastian came to his senses and was about to speak, but saw Adelaide had already gotten up and walked out of the room.

"Mrs. Manners, you..." Ryan's surprise received no response.

Sebastian silently withdrew his gaze, clenched his fists, loosened them, tightened them again, and finally said, "Come in and push me downstairs."

'Since they were here, he naturally wouldn't avoid them. As for Adelaide! She must have realized he was no longer of any use, right? After all, a cripple who was about to be stripped of his power was no longer worth her acting for.'Sebastian thought.

Ryan's expression didn't look good either. He saw Adelaide's face full of anger just now, presumably because she was wronged by Sebastian.

He couldn't help but sigh! But he couldn't say anything.

He could only follow Sebastian's instructions and push him downstairs. Although he didn't know the company's situation, he still whispered, "Mr. Manners, those people look fierce, they probably don't have good intentions."

He had worked at the Manners Villa for so many years and had seen some of those directors. Back when Sebastian wasn't injured, those people would always nod and bow whenever they saw him.

This wasn't because Sebastian demanded it, but because they were eager to curry favor.

Now, they all looked arrogant.

Ryan was both angry and heartbroken, and even more worried that Sebastian wouldn't be able to handle it later. Sebastian didn't take it to heart; he was just worried that if Adelaide went out alone so late, she might be in danger.

Thinking of this, Sebastian immediately said, "Have someone check on her later..."

Before Sebastian could finish his sentence, he heard Adelaide's angry voice from downstairs, "What are you doing? Holding a board meeting so late at night, are you trying to bully my husband?"

Sebastian was stunned, and Ryan, who was pushing the wheelchair, also froze. He stopped, hesitating, "Mr. Manners..."

Sebastian had already gestured for him not to go down yet.

Soon, the dissatisfied voices of the directors came from below, "What's going on with Sebastian? If he doesn't show up, does he want a woman to face us?"

Ryan instinctively glanced at Sebastian and found his expression had changed.

The mocking below didn't stop, and even became more excessive, "It's understandable, given Sebastian's current state, he probably doesn't want to see anyone. How could he have the face to meet us?"

This remark caused an uproarious laughter.

Ryan couldn't help but want to rush out, "Mr. Manners, I'll go drive them away now!"

Sebastian grabbed him.

In Ryan's puzzled gaze, Adelaide's unyielding cold laugh came, "How ridiculous, do you think you're so important that my husband should meet you personally?"

"You women are simply unreasonable. We're holding a board meeting, how can Sebastian not show up?" they said.

Facing their aggressive attitude, Adelaide remained unflustered, "Isn't it you who are being unreasonable? You want to hold a board meeting, so my husband has to show up? Who's in charge of the Manners Group, him or you?"

"You little girl, do you think marrying Sebastian makes you Mrs. Manners? Let me tell you, before you, there were already five..." one said.

"Five what? Are you trying to say five Mrs. Manners?"Adelaide suddenly laughed, "You old guys better not try to pin any crimes on my husband. Let me tell you, those poor women were probably sent by one of you to harm Sebastian. Fortunately, Sebastian is smart and saw through your tricks, driving them away. Otherwise, he might have been killed by you."

The directors' faces changed instantly.

They exchanged incredulous glances, unable to believe it.

Impossible, how could she know?

Could it be that, as she said, Sebastian had known all along?

"Don't talk nonsense, those women were clearly brought by Marcus, what does it have to do with us?" they exclaimed.

"Exactly, we don't want to argue with you, get Sebastian out here now!" the others echoed.

Adelaide didn't intend to argue with them. Seeing their reaction was even bigger than she expected, it confirmed her suspicions.

Adelaide looked at them with more disgust.

"Why do you want Sebastian out here, to hear how you plan to make him step down?"

She was sure these people had been bought by Gavin.

Being exposed by Adelaide again and again, they couldn't sit still anymore.

They started cursing, "Bitch, you're shameless. Do you think marrying Sebastian makes you Mrs. Manners? Let me tell you, Sebastian doesn't want you. Once you step out of this door, I'll kill you!"

"So scary!" Adelaide pretended to be terrified.

The director hadn't had time to gloat when a cold voice questioned, "If she's not Mrs. Manners, then are you?"

Adelaide's eyes lit up instantly. The next second, everyone looked towards the direction of the voice. Adelaide pointed at the directors, looking aggrieved, "Honey, they're bullying me!"
