Chapter 4: The Ride Home
Amelia's Pov
I was aware I was being carried even if I was unconscious. “Put me down.” I said, struggling weakly.
“I can't do that, I need to take you inside, you aren't safe out here.” A familiar voice whispered.
I couldn't see clearly but I know whomever it was, was really concerned.
“What exactly are you doing, why are you trying to help me? I know my way to my door.”
“Fine, according to the address you gave me you're home now.” he said, setting me down.
I stumbled on something, catching myself on his chest. His saint was familiar but I couldn't tell.
“You can go, I can go into my house now.” I muttered.
“Nah, let me help you Inside,”
Just then an unfamiliar face came out of the house. “Who are you?”
“This lady here leaves here right?” The cab man asked.
“Nah, this is my house.”
I didn't know what happened after that but I found myself in an unfamiliar room when I woke up. My head pounding and sunlight streaming through the window.
Just then Lucas walked in.
“Omg, what I'm I doing here?”
Lucas walked towards me with a glass of water.
“Good morning.” He said with a soft voice. “Are you feeling better?”
I rolled my eyes, memories flooding back.
“What really happened?”
“Well, you were drunk and you mistook me for a cab man, you told me to take you to a wrong address and the only place I thought you'd be safe was here.”
“Where is this?” I asked, my gaze roaming the luxurious room.
“Yeah, this is my apartment.” Lucas said,
Now I sat up, panic rising. I had no idea he was this rich.
“So why did you bring me here? You should have used my phone to call my mom. You should have left me there.”
Lucas' eyes locked onto mine. I had no idea what he was thinking.
“You know I wouldn't have left you there alone and vulnerable, you should be careful next time.”
Though Lucas' expression revealed nothing but his words sent shivers down my spine. I held his gaze, searching for answers.
“So tell me, why do you care?”
“Nothing, maybe I'm interested in your well-being.” His eyes narrowed slightly.
“Interested?” I raised my eyebrow.
“Just consider it a favor for now.” He smiled enigmatically.
I still don't get what he wants from me nor did I get what he meant.
“I'll leave.” I said, throwing off the covers.
“Hold on, let me call my driver to take you home.” Lucas said, moving towards me.
He handed me my phone. I had no idea he was with it. our hands touched, sparking electricity.
I took it from him quickly, before pulling away.
Lucas fixed his gaze on me, as if sensing my reaction. “Thanks.” I said z before breaking eye contact.
Immediately, Lucas' driver arrived. Looking from the window, a sleek black car was waiting downstairs.
“Do you mind waiting for breakfast?” Lucas asked.
“Nah, I'm not hungry.” Just when I was about to leave the room I threw up.
I had wanted to stay back to clean my mess but Lucas called his maid to do so.
I entered the car, I had no idea why he followed me. His presence was unsettling.
“Alright. You'll be safe with Jenkins,” Lucas assured me before handing another business card to me.
“You should call if you need anything.” He fixed his gaze on me, the intensity unnerving.
“What exactly do you do?” I asked, trying to shift focus.
“Just private investment,” he said, cryptically.
Just then the door closed, Lucas' gaze was still fixed on mine.
Lucas driver, Jenkins was silent. As soon as we arrived at my apartment, I was relieved.
“Thanks, Jenkins,” I said, before exiting the car.
Just immediately, my phone buzzed.
It was an unknown number. I didn't hesitate to pick.
It was Lucas on the line. “Hey, I just got home, I appreciate all you did but you should keep your distance.”
I knew I didn't mean what I said but I can't imagine being close to him when he knows who I am and what I do for a living.
“Don't be foolish,” Lucas said, with a low and commanding voice. “I'm only keeping an eye on you.”
His words sent shivers down my spine. “Stop being dramatic, what do you have to keep an eye on me?”
"Well, I'm only trying to protect you, your line of work which you choose attracts unwanted attention.” Lucas warned.
"What do you mean? Protect me from what? I appreciate your concern but—”
Lucas didn't let me finish what I had to say, he cut me off. “You don't need to say anything, just be cautious.”
The conversation was laced with tension. “Bye.” I said firmly.
“I will definitely see you some other time.” He said, with a soft tone.
I got into my apartment, my mom was sitting on the couch. It's obvious she was waiting for me. “You have no idea how worried I was. You refused to pick up when I called, you should have informed me that you won't be coming home.” She paused.
“And who is that young man that dropped you with a car?”
“Not now mom, I will be in my room.” I said, frowning.
“I'm talking to you,” my mom called as she rose from the couch immediately.
I walked faster, seeking refuge in my room. I wasn't ready for her questioning. She wants to know everything.
“You will have to open this door and tell me who that man was.” She persisted, banging the door.
I leaned against the door, breathing hard. “Not today mom, just leave.” I pleaded.
“Fine, we will talk about this later.” She said before leaving,
I was grateful for the reprieve. I collapsed on my bed, exhaled deeply. Thoughts swirling in and out of my mind.
Lucas' smile haunted me. Now I've forgotten about Max, Lucas was more good in bed. “I should have gone for Lucas instead, that guy is so hot, I didn't want to stop kissing his lips.”
The way he touches me and all made my heart beat fast.
I got up from my bed, stared at my reflection. I actually crave Lucas ' presence.
