Chapter 5: Tangled Emotions
Lucas Pov
I got up from the couch, I had a lot of appointments to catch up with. I have lots of appointments for the day, endless paper works, meetings and presentations.
“Sir, your breakfast is ready.” My maid said.
Just as I was about to go eat my breakfast my wife came in. She left the country for a year and she was finally back.
“Why are you staring at me, aren't you happy to have me back? I deserve a hug at least.”
My gaze was fixed on my wife. I thought I'd never see her again.
“Hey,” she muttered.
“Victoria,” I said, rolling my eyes, masking my turmoil. She approached me, she was definitely expecting a warm hug but I stood still.
“What's up with you? What's wrong?” she asked, confusion etched on her face.
“My bad, I'm just surprised. I miss you but I didn't expect you back so soon.” I said, forcing a polite smile.
“You're not happy to see me, isn't that obvious.” Her eyes narrowed.
“Why will you say that huh? I'm very happy to have you back.” I made sure I chose my word carefully.
Her gaze lingered. She didn't believe me. She fixed her gaze on me searching for the truth.
“I know you so well Lucas, what changed?” She pressed.
And immediately my thoughts drift back to Amelia, what we had shared and all.
“I have a busy day ahead okay, nothing changed, it's just work.” I lied.
Victoria's presence made everything complicated. I have feelings for Amelia and now I have to be careful.
The maid quickly took Victoria luggages and came back hurriedly. “Your breakfast sir.” The maid intervened.
“I'm not hungry.” I said, grateful for the distraction, before turning to leave.
Victoria could sense my deceit, her piercing gaze lingered. My wife returning after a long time complicated everything.
“Hey, you won't leave without answering me.” She said, her voice firm.
I turned reluctantly.
“What do you want me to say?”
“You need to give me answers to this attitude.” She demanded with a flashing eyes.
"Let's talk later, I have meetings to attend to now.” I replied Curtly.
My secretary arrived, handing me a note.
I looked at the note for a while before entering the car immediately.
I entered the car and I was grateful for that timely interruption. As the driver drove away, Victoria's eyes blazed with anger.
“This is your schedule sir.” My secretary said, before handing me the itinerary.
I tried to focus on the day's task. But despite how I try to do that Amelia dominated my thoughts.
The car stopped at the first meeting location. I made sure I composed myself before leaving the car.
“Good morning sir,” Colleagues greeted.
I'm the manager of a filming company owned by my friend Williams. He left the country for a business trip and I've been managing the company.
I exchanged pleasantries with my colleagues and left for my office.
My mind drifted from Victoria to Amelia throughout the day.
“Your itinerary sir,” my secretary said,
“Thanks,” I said, scanning the list.
“Lot's of meetings and script review and production for the day.”
“Yes sir, we also need you to approve the smith project.” She interrupted.
I signed the document after reviewing it.
“I will inform Williams of the recent update.” I said,
The day progressed and my distraction grew.
“Sir, the Johnson's meeting,” my secretary reminded me.
I stood from my chair, straightened my tie before turning to leave. “Let's proceed.”
We concluded the meeting successfully while my mind remained elsewhere.
As the workday was coming to an end. I texted Amelia. “Tomorrow, 6 pm. Don't be late.”
As soon as I sent the message, her response came in immediately. “Why?”
“She acts like she doesn't want me around.” I muttered.
“Just be ready, my driver will pick you up.” I said.
I was waiting for her response but didn't get any.
I decided to send her another message. “Don't tell me you didn't enjoy what we shared the last time.” I tried to test her resolve.
Second ticked by, yet no message came in from her.
“We both had fun but I can't do that anymore.” Her response arrived.
I was curious as I typed.
“You don't have to be scared, I promise to go easy on you.”
I sent the message,
Her response came in again. “I'm aware you're married, Mr Lucas, you think I won't find out?”
“How do..”
“You don't need to know how I found out.” She replied
“Are you stalking me?”
“You don't need to find out.” She replied.
I tried to reassure her, masking my own fears. “You don't have to worry, my marriage is complicated, we will get a divorce soon.”
“How will you say that, you are married, Mr Lucas.” Amelia said,
Her words sliced through me and I tried to alleviate her concern.
“And why should I care, you want to divorce your wife? That was just easy for you to say.” She replied.
I have to convince her, I knew her doubts resonated.
“Why don't I explain everything to you tomorrow.” I pleaded.
The fact that Amelia now knows I'm married made everything more complicated.
“Nah, I can't back down now.” I muttered.
I held my suitcase and walked out of my office. Everyone had left except my secretary.
“You're still around. You can leave now.”
“I just need to finish up with this sir.” She said,
“You can do this tomorrow, you have to leave now.” I commanded.
“My driver will drop you off.”
“I ordered a cab already.” She said,
I waved my hand. “I insist.”
We walked out of the company to the car park, where my driver was waiting.
Jenkins was standing beside the vehicle. He quickly approached me, taking my suitcase from me. Opening the door.
Jenkins dropped my secretary off and she waved goodbye before leaving.
“Where to sir?” He asked.
“Home.” I muttered.
As soon as I got home I found cops in my house.
“What's going on?”
I scanned at the unexpected scene and I quickly came out from the car.
