Chapter 6 Living Expenses

Henry shouted, "You even pushed her?"

I frowned. "I didn't; she touched my wound."

Henry glanced at my arm without saying a word.

Aria's eyes welled up with tears, and she said aggrievedly, "It's my fault. I scared Amelia."

Henry pulled her into his arms and carefully checked her. "Did you get hurt?"

Aria shook her head. "No, it's just a pity about the porridge I just made."

Henry's face darkened further as he brought Aria in front of me. "Amelia, didn't the doctor say your condition was critical? Is this all the injury you have?"

He looked at the bandage on my arm with a mocking expression, his tone disdainful. "Yesterday you said there was a surgery and asked me to sign, and today there's another wound on your arm; you really have a lot of tricks."

Henry sneered, "I didn't know that an arm injury required hospitalization."

Aria also disapproved, "Yes, Amelia, don't scare us like that next time. When the doctor called this morning, Henry and I were still resting, we thought something serious had happened."

I quietly watched them without saying a word. From last night on an empty stomach until now, and after drawing a lot of blood, my vision was a bit blurry.

But Henry's indifferent face kept piercing my heart. He never believed a word I said, nor did he ever care about me.

A part of my heart slowly froze, and it didn't seem to hurt as much anymore.

The examination room started calling names, I heard mine and walked towards it.

Henry stopped me. "Leaving after your lies are exposed?"

He approached me unceremoniously. "You still owe Aria an apology."

I was exhausted. "Henry, do you have to argue with me in the hospital?"

Maybe because my face looked too bad, he was stunned for a moment and didn't hold onto me anymore.

The door of the examination room closed heavily, and I heard Henry asking the nurse what kind of examination this was.

When I came out, they were already gone.

Back in the ward, there was a nutritious breakfast on the bedside table.

Before I could ask, the family member accompanying the patient in the next bed winked at me. "A handsome guy sent it."

I found it somewhat amusing. But I didn't have much strength.

Without thinking much, I leaned against the headboard and finished the breakfast.

In the morning, the nurse came to give me an IV, and at lunchtime, the family member in the next bed saw that I was alone and kindly offered to bring me food.

I asked her to bring me something to eat. I had surgery scheduled for tomorrow, so I needed to eat on time.

During rounds, Brian brought my examination report and remarked, "The indicators are basically normal, but your physical condition is too poor."

He frowned slightly. "I prescribed some nutritional supplements for you, and you'll need another IV later."

I obediently nodded.

Brian asked, "By the way, when will your family come to sign?"

I said lightly, "I'll sign it myself; he really can't come."

Brian frowned. "Didn't he come to bring you food this morning?"

I thought he was referring to the scene on the first floor and didn't respond.

Brian was busy; he just said that the nurse would bring the consent form for me to sign later, and then continued with his rounds.

In the afternoon, the nurse came to give me nutritional supplements and brought the consent form for me to sign.

The surgery was scheduled for ten o'clock the next day.In the morning, I sent a message to Nova.

Soon, she replied: [Good luck, Amelia. Brian is an excellent doctor; with him there, everything will be fine. I'll come to see you when you get better.]

Seeing this, I couldn't help but smile.

At ten o'clock, the nurse promptly wheeled me into the operating room.

Under the glaring white shadowless lamp, Brian's face was both familiar and unfamiliar.

He wore a mask, his expression focused, without a trace of extra emotion.

Seeing his serious demeanor, my originally tense heart calmed down a lot.

The anesthesia gradually took effect. My body gradually became cold, and in a daze, I heard Henry's voice.

I seemed to have a very long dream. In the dream, at the graduation ceremony, I still refused Henry's proposal.

In a small rented room, Henry sat on the floor, surrounded by wine bottles.

Next to him was a phone that kept being hung up, with the contact name Amelia.

The scene shifted, and he was already the youngest CEO of Luminous City.

Then it was at the Phillips Villa. Henry brought different women, messing around with them day and night.

I sat at the bedroom door, curled up in pain. It hurt so much.

The cold seeping from my bones made me shiver all over. The sound of my teeth chattering grew louder.

Suddenly, a sharp pain hit, and I woke up from the dream. The surroundings were no longer my previous ward.

Seeing me awake, the nurse ran to the doctor's office.

Soon, Brian, wearing a white coat, hurried over. "How do you feel?"

He seemed anxious, and seeing me nod slowly, he breathed a sigh of relief. "The surgery was very successful, but you need to be observed for a few more days. If there are no abnormalities, you'll be out of danger."

I blinked, unable to speak. There was only me in the intensive care unit.

A dedicated nurse was taking care of me. I sipped some water and then struggled to turn on my phone.

There were only a few messages and missed call records from Nova.

Afraid she would worry, I quickly called her back.

The call was answered quickly, and before I could speak, Nova's anxious voice came through. "How are you feeling, any better?"

Hearing her familiar voice, I choked up a bit but held it back. "Nothing much, sorry to make you worry."

I forced myself to sound energetic.

Nova asked how I was feeling now, gave me a few reminders, and said she would come to see me when she had time, then reluctantly hung up.

The days in the intensive care unit were a bit boring.

Brian didn't allow me to get out of bed; he said my physical condition was too poor, and I needed to rest well for a few days.

Once I was in better condition, I could start moving around.

Although the surgery was very successful, the follow-up medication treatment was still necessary. And my hospital fees were almost depleted.

I looked at Aria's status updates, she and Henry had gone to Dreamscape Atoll.

The beautiful island scenery, the sun shining brightly.

I looked at their smiling faces expressionlessly. I raised my hand and sent a message to Henry: [Give me five hundred thousand dollars as this month's living expenses.]

While I was hospitalized, he was vacationing with his mistress. Asking for this amount of money, I didn't think it was too much.

After all, I was still his wife.
