5- Dangerous Mermaids

We returned home that night, almost celebrating our clandestine and dangerous escape. Just before sunset, we had at least broken 20 rules, and besides, Seila and Mathias had lunch together when he invited her to eat. I stepped away to give them more privacy and waited for her at the company’s restaurant, located in the lobby. What was surprising was that even though Mathias didn’t remember anything particular about Seila, he treated her as if he already knew her.

I wasn’t so lucky, as I never saw the bald man I had spotted on the beach again, and I didn’t know anything about him, not even his name. But something in my heart, a voice from another plane, told me that I would soon have him close to me again.

- I know everything - Yryhnna said, swimming toward Seila just as she, with a happy face, was getting ready to comb her hair.

Seila was sitting on the sofa in our luxurious living room, surrounded by a pile of magazines and photographs of made-up human models.

- The guard has informed Alan - she announced, but Seila barely showed any expression of guilt or shame; she was lost in her feelings of love.

- I don’t want you to go back to that place; I don’t want you to be in contact with humans.

- Well, I’m sorry, sister, but I’ve been invited to a party tomorrow at the beach.

- Another party? Have you lost your mind?

- You can come with me if you want.

- I won’t go, and you shouldn’t either.

The next night, Seila was getting ready in a new short and quite sexy dress, with an open back, fitting perfectly to the curve of her mermaid tail as it would to her buttocks and legs once she transformed. Of course, her date that night didn't know her true nature; at least for now, her magical identity seemed clandestine.

- No one will find out what we really are - Seila assures me. She doesn’t have to make much of an effort to convince me to accompany her.

- The truth is, I would like to go out and distract myself, and maybe understand some things about what happened.

- Mía, we won’t talk about the accident; we’ll leave it all behind. We’re just going to have fun, okay?

I nod slightly and apply pastel red lipstick. If my sister doesn’t want to share anything, I won’t either; keeping the secret of our race is essential. Still, I can’t help but wonder if Yryhnna is right, if those men who hunt werewolves really don’t remember anything and are completely innocent, or if it’s a trap.

When we leave home, Yryhnna doesn’t say goodbye; she goes to Alan’s place that night, and Seila and I head to the party.

- Keep me informed of every detail - she says to me, her voice sounding severe, but in her blue eyes, I see a glimmer of desperation.

- Don’t worry; I’ll keep you informed - I assure her, letting her know that our mental communication is infallible and that night will be no exception.

When Seila and Mía say goodbye, Yryhnna arrives home. Alan is resting in the room as the workday has been quite heavy; since the alerts were raised regarding the werewolves, his workload has increased. Yryhnna lives in a beautiful house located on a reef, deep in the ocean; she must pass a waterfall and reach her home on foot, in human form because the house is not submerged but floating on the water. Some mermaids have their homes above the water, in very beautiful places, enjoying the sound of the sea and the movement of the waves.

As Yryhnna stepped into her tranquil abode, the gentle sway of the waves lapping against the structure filled the air with a soothing melody. The interior was adorned with shimmering seashells and soft coral pieces, creating an ethereal atmosphere that matched her mermaid essence. The walls seemed to glow with a soft light, reminiscent of bioluminescent creatures in the depths of the ocean.

She moved quietly through the living area, careful not to disturb Alan, who was sprawled out on the plush couch, his eyes closed in exhaustion. The weight of his responsibilities hung heavy on him, and Yryhnna felt a pang of sympathy for the human. He had been a steadfast ally, offering protection to her and her sister despite the dangers that came with their secret existence.

Yryhnna settled beside him, her gaze drifting towards the window that framed a breathtaking view of the moonlit ocean. The waves sparkled under the silver light, a stark contrast to the darkened skies. It was a beautiful night, but she felt an unsettling tension in the air—an awareness of the brewing storm between their worlds.

She reached out, brushing her fingers against Alan’s forehead, wishing to ease his weariness. As if sensing her presence, he stirred and opened his eyes, meeting her gaze with a soft smile.

"Hey, you," he murmured, his voice thick with sleep. "I didn’t expect you back so soon."

"I missed you," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "I wanted to see you before the party."

Alan shifted, propping himself up on one elbow. "Are you sure about this? Seila going out with a human—it's risky."

Yryhnna hesitated, her heart heavy with the weight of her sister's choices. "I know. But she believes she can handle it. And I can't keep her from living her life. She's been through so much."

Alan sighed, running a hand through his tousled hair. "I just worry about her. And about you. There are too many unknowns right now."

"We’ll be careful. We have each other’s backs," Yryhnna reassured him, though her own uncertainty gnawed at her. The hunters were becoming more vigilant, and their secrets felt increasingly precarious.

"Promise me you’ll stay connected with Seila," Alan urged, his eyes searching hers for confirmation. "If things go south, I want you to get out of there."

"I promise," she said, though the knot in her stomach tightened. Would they really be safe? Or were they walking into a trap?

As the clock ticked closer to the hour of the party, Yryhnna felt a sense of urgency. If Seila was venturing into human territory, she needed to be prepared for anything. Their bond would be tested tonight.

Meanwhile, across the water, Seila and Mía were making their way to the beach, laughter bubbling between them as they navigated the soft sand. The night was alive with the sounds of music and chatter, a stark contrast to the murmur of the ocean.

Seila adjusted her dress, the fabric clinging to her curves, a confident smile on her face. "Just remember, we’re here to have fun. No one needs to know our true selves."

Mía nodded, though a part of her felt the weight of their secret. She couldn’t shake the feeling that the night held more than just frivolity. They were on the edge of something significant, something life-altering.

As they approached the gathering, the glow of bonfire light illuminated the scene, casting flickering shadows that danced across the sand. Humans mingled, oblivious to the world beneath the waves, while Seila’s heart raced with excitement and trepidation.

“Let’s dive in,” Seila said, her voice filled with eagerness. Mía took a deep breath, steeling herself for the night ahead as they stepped into the thrumming energy of the party, unaware of the watchful eyes that lingered in the shadows.

In the depths of the ocean, Yryhnna felt the pull of their connection, a tether to her sister that kept her grounded. As she settled into a chair beside Alan, her thoughts drifted to the night ahead
