Chapter Eight

Keira’s Pov

Just before I fell too far from the cliff top, I was able to grab hold of a part of the cliff, but my hands were slipping.

“Help!” I screamed out and my voice echoed.

The rogue came closer, and bent towards me.

“No one is going to save you, Luna. It’s time I caused a fatal pain to Alpha Zane’s heart.” The rogue said, and rose to his feet, raising his right foot as he prepared to hit my hand.

“No, please don’t! Don’t do this.” I pleaded as I felt my hand slipping.

He began to cackle and just when he was about to kick me off, someone from nowhere pushed him off the cliff, and he fell, screaming in fear. That made me look down at him, and just seeing the mighty river and everything got me so overwhelmed in fear that my hand slipped at once.

“Ahh!” I screamed out the moment I realized I was going to fall and die.

But fortunately, a hand grabbed me, and pulled me back to the ground.

Tears strolled down my eyes and I began to cry out as the feeling of being so close to death was really intimidating. I sat on the ground, leaned my head on my knees as I wrapped my hands around my legs, crying out.

Then I felt a warm hug around me and I raised my head a little only to see his neck and chest, and surprisingly, that made me feel a rush of emotions; sweet sensations. Was it even possible to feel this way after encountering a really traumatic experience?

“It’s okay; I’m here with you now. You are safe.” He said to me in a soft and calm voice.

It felt like he whispered safety itself into my soul, and I felt much better, and leaned on his chest, sniffling like a baby.

Caleb and I were sitting on a large rock which was above a river, and he threw stones at intervals. I looked up at the sky, and let out a deep breath. The moon had vanished already, unlike when I had sneaked out at first.

“I envy the moon.” I spoke out without tearing my gaze off the sky.

Then Caleb looked at me.

“Why?” He asked with a tone of curiosity.

“Although it vanishes at a particular time in the night, it is certain to come back the next night. But as for me, I don’t know when I’ll ever find my home,” I said sadly.

Then Caleb held my hands, turning to me to look at him.

“Look, Luna. This is your home, and I don’t care how long it is going to take you to recall your memories, I’m going to see to it that you remember us, that you remember me; our special connection.”

“That’s the thing. I’m not Luna. You all think I’m Luna, and I don’t really know what happened, but I’m not her. I’m Keira, and I’m a…”

Before I could complete my words, he grabbed my waist, and pulled me closer to him as he enveloped my lips with his. The feel of his lips sent a sensation down to every part of my body and everything else seemed to vanish.

As his hand roamed my body gently, I felt an ignition inside of me as the kiss began to get intense. At this point, every other sound faded except for the sound of my heart beating to the intensity and surge of emotions I was feeling. His lips tasted just like cinnamon, and surprisingly, I just wanted more from him.

But then, at the sound of twigs snapping, and the leaves rustling, we broke apart, and my eyes scanned around nervously, wondering if there was another attack on the horizon.

Suddenly, a man dressed in the pack guards’ uniform appeared.

“Alpha, I just got word that Alpha Zane ordered for the Luna search.”

“Tell him we both came out for a walk, and that she is fine.”

“Uhm… the reason it led to that is because there is an important message he wanted to pass out, and Alpha Ryder is present already.” The guard insisted, but sounded respectful.

Although, I was relieved that it wasn’t an attacker who had come to confront us again, I couldn’t help but wonder what Alpha Zane had to say that four of us had to be present; especially me.

“Alright, let’s go.” Caleb urged me.

I rose to my feet, and walked alongside Caleb and the guard as we headed back to the pack.

“Are you not going to tell him that I actually didn’t come out with you?” I asked as we walked along the way.

“No, Luna. It’s only going to make him tighten the security around you, and trust me, you might feel worser since you don’t like being tied down or something.”

“But… but…why are you helping me? Aren’t you against me trying to flee?” I asked, being so curious about why he was being that kind.

“Well, I’m sure you aren’t going to try it again, especially with what you experienced tonight. If I hadn't been here tonight, then you could have died.” He said, and then he let out a deep breath.

I became quiet, but I knew there had to be a way around this. I couldn’t just stay here, knowing that my family would be so worried about me. But then, if Valerie and Damien could threaten me about my family and friends, it meant that they knew how to get to them. I guess they are my only ticket back home, and I’m going to find a way in which they will lead me back to my home.

Soon, we got back to the pack house, and as we approached Alpha Zane and Ryder, I could tell there was a high chance that there was a problem, with the looks on their faces.

“What’s going on?” Caleb asked, looking at them out of curiosity.

“It’s the Luna Rite. The people are asking for it.” Alpha Zane said, with a hint of worry in his voice.

It made me really curious about what exactly the Luna Rite entailed, that made the three of them look so uncomfortable.
