CHAPTER 4 Second Chance Mate

Alexa's POV

I was stunned to find out that the Moon Goddess had mercy on me and gave me a second chance mate,but I was more surprised to find out that my husband-to-be was no other than my second chance mate.

"Mate,"I found myself growling,and I knew it was Daniella's doing.Everyone in here gasped before turning to look between the prince and me.

"Isn't it great that your wife to be is your fated mate?"the plump young man,whose name I still didn't know,commented sarcastically.The cold-looking man in the wheelchair immediately turned to give him a sharp glare.

"She is neither my wife-to-be nor my mate,for I will be rejecting her,"the cold-looking man in the wheelchair snapped,and I stood there stunned,feeling my legs go numb.

'Why is everyone rejecting us?'Daniella asked angrily.'Was Stephanie right when she said no one would ever want us?'she pressed.

'Why the hell do we keep getting paired with big-time jerks?First our fated mate,now it is this arsehole,'Daniella yelled inside my head while I looked down at the beautiful floor,sadly.

"Dear Uncle,"I heard the cold-looking man in the wheelchair say.I turned to see him bowing toward the Alpha King.

'Dear Uncle?'I thought in disbelief.'Wasn't the man in the wheelchair supposed to be the Alpha King's son?'Daniella questioned.

"I would prefer to have someone else as my mate,so please grant me this request,"he continued,his head still bowed toward the King.My heart tightened painfully at the sight.

'Our second chance mate is choosing someone else over us,too?'I asked in disbelief.Just then,a beautiful,seductive woman with long blonde hair walked confidently towards the man in the wheelchair,standing proudly beside him with a smile.

"I want Valerie Kay to be my chosen mate,"he added.I gasped,realizing this was happening again-I was being rejected.

"Dear Prince Davis,my beloved nephew,"the Alpha King began,his voice filled with authority.

"Since you are the only surviving member of my late brother's family,and the former prince of this pack,this is the first request you have made of me.I hereby grant it,"he declared.

I was too stunned and heartbroken to speak.Tears streamed down my cheeks as I stared at the man in the wheelchair,wondering what I could have done to deserve his rejection.

"My dear,"I heard the Alpha King call gently.I timidly lifted my head to meet his gaze.

"I imagine you must be exhausted from your journey,"he said kindly,and I found myself nodding in agreement.

"Why don't you rest for now?Tomorrow,a proper introduction will be made,"he suggested.

Grateful for his thoughtfulness,I agreed.He snapped his fingers,and a young maid quickly entered the room.

"Lead her to her room,"he ordered,and the maid nodded with a bow before turning to me.

"Please follow me,my lady,"she said,and I nodded in response.She began walking towards the exit of the throne room,and I followed her immediately.I needed to get away as soon as possible to have some private time.

As we made our way to my chambers,I could hear the whispers around me-people quietly offering their sympathy.

"Such a pretty lady,"one woman whispered to her companion.

"Oh!What a pity,"another commented.

"I guess she must be feeling like hell right now,"someone else murmured,and I couldn't help but let out a small,bitter laugh.She was right;I did feel like hell.My heart ached and burned with every step.

"This is your chamber,my lady,"the maid said,stopping in front of a large door.

"I hope it meets your satisfaction,"she added.I gave her a brief nod and was about to enter when she stopped me.

"Is there anything you might need?"she asked politely.I managed to force a smile and shook my head.I was too numb to even muster a thank you.

The maid nodded,understanding.She bowed before leaving,granting me the solitude I desperately needed.I took a deep breath,opened the large door,and stepped into the room,closing it behind me,and shutting out the whispers.

I was in too much pain to notice how beautifully decorated the room was.I made my way to the bed and sat down,still numb.Now that I was alone,I allowed myself to fully give in to my emotions.Tears began to fall freely.The past two days had been a nightmare.

'Why was the Moon Goddess doing this?'I tried to get Daniella's response.'She gave us a second chance mate,only to let him reject us.In my former pack,we were always trampled on,bullied,and made to clean up after others.I never retaliated,not even when I was drenched in ice water during winter just because I accidentally bumped into a rich heiress.I endured every insult and mistreatment,hoping that one day,our time would come and the Moon Goddess would rescue us.But now,I doubt that will ever happen.The Moon Goddess gave us hope,only to snatch it away,'I cried.

Prince Davis has not broken the mate bond between us yet,but I know he will anytime soon,and when he does,the Alpha King will send me back to my pack.I cannot allow that to happen;I must find a way to prove myself to him so I will not be rejected.

While wondering what my fate would be,I decided to explore the palace and stumbled on an open garden instead.I decided to stay there,enjoy the fresh air,and clear my mind when suddenly someone hurled into me from behind.
