CHAPTER 4 Good News
Neomi POV
Forks and spoons click against plates at the dining area. Jason sat beside me. Opposite us was Lily Jason's sister with her husband and her 5-year-old boy. Each one of them ate happily. I barely dug into my food. My face feels like a Mashed paper.
These were the people I call family, they ate happily together, cracking up jokes in between. Mrs Mia sat at the head table smooching on her food, even the way she eats speaks of authority. She gave little side talks occasionally while Jason and I were out of it.
I still wondered why Lily and her husband decided to stay back with us at the pack house after getting married to her husband. Was she after the throne? Knowing fully it was Jason who was the next heir.
Was it because she seniors Jason with some years making her feel she got a chance to rule over the Moonlit Shadow Pack with her husband?
How delusional? Getting on the good side of her mother even when she made the bad decision, she was like a puppet. She was successful sitting as Chief operating officer at the company, same with her husband while we were left out with lower positions.
I watched everyone's deadly secrets hanging around deep. My appetite was lost knowing the depth of what I held in my mind and about to pour.
No one took notice of me, they went about with their meals, the table was decorated with a candlelight in a transparent short glass and a flower vase draped beside it. It was an 8 chair dining table close to a large window, the views turned like channels. The moon stands out, it hangs between the branches like a silver egg, a magical glowing orb.
Different kinds of food covered the table and each person was served by the maid who was some feet away from us watching us eat.
I kept on picking on my food, wishing for the time to pass by quickly but it was slow.
Jason grabbed a glass of wine, raising it and using the back of the spoon to hit it to get everyone's attention. Slowly the noise was wearing away into the thin air.
"Can I get your attention?" He said calming the brewing noise into a graveyard.
"I have good news to share," Each one of them looked at the other's faces wondering what he was about to say even Mrs Mia wasn't left out. I could see the anticipation in her eyes.
"Is she pregnant?" she asked.
Jason looked at me, placing a kiss on my forehead ignoring her question.
"It's been a long road with her through thick and thin and I'm happy to share this good news with you all," I examined their faces one after the other, Lily shuddered in her seat, piercing her eyes to know of the good news, anticipation hung in the air.
I couldn't find myself to forgive her for murdering my third embryo after lying to me she never took the pills from the protocol.
"I believe this will be for the good of all of us. Please grab your cup for a toast." I gasped wondering what was taking Jason so long to announce the news to them.
My heart was continuously throbbing within my ribcage with so much uneasiness. My eyes fixed on Mrs Mia for her reaction.
I knew she was going to kick against it, but I was going to live my life making decisions on my terms, not hers. I deserve happiness. She had successfully controlled her children, Jason and Lily and I was a different drop out of it.
"We decided to have a pup," Lily covered her mouth in surprise.
"We have a breeder," Something fell to the ground crashing into tiny pieces, I looked down to the ground tracing it back up. It was Mrs Mia's glass cup. She had a furious look, I could see the veins on her neck constrict with so much venom.
I and Jason's decision was final and there was nothing she was going to do about it.
There was a momentary silence with mouths split apart hanging in the air, nobody dared speak. My gaze was on Mrs Mia. I couldn't find myself anymore, it felt like my happiness was incomplete and I was being remote like a TV station. I wanted happiness, to be complete with just me, my Alpha, and pups, a complete family.
I yearn to hold those tiny bodies in my hand, someone to complete me. I watched as her brows knit together and her pierced green eyes enveloped me.
I knew the risk but that was my fucking last embryo.
"Neomi," she called in a husky voice like a principal calling on a default student. I swallowed hard, my inside filled with so much heat.
"Do you realize the decision you are making?" She asked, but it was useless asking, the risk was there. Either I lose my pup or my cover gets all blown up. It was a hard decision but my hunger was more.
"I won't support you when things get sore," she said walking away.
Mr Mia was a definition of authority, she wanted to control everyone around her, and she had successfully taken over the business and leadership. Her children followed all her instructions holding on little crumbs that fell from the table. So pathetic.
Lily looked at me with pitiful eyes, she was guilty as charged. Has she ever for once known what I felt when I saw the blood rise to the surface at the pool?
My world was crashing right In Front of me, Jason squeezed my hand, I kept wondering why he was left out of the family. It was quite obvious his situation.
One after the other the dinner came to an end after Mrs Mia left each one of them leaving their dinner half gone on the plate. I was like a tiny needle in the house, no one notice of me but I was deadly like a viper.
