CHAPTER 5 Mate
Jason POV
The air was thick, I watched everyone leave the dining area, leaving me and Neomi to our fate.
She was already teary, I crushed on the hem of her dress drawing her closer and gaining her attention. I didn't like to see that liquid flow down her cheek like raindrops.
My promise to protect her and always support her in all her phases was still fresh in my head but I couldn't watch her cry. It pains me so much.
"Do you think we are making the right decision?" she asked, questioning the doubt in her head.
I took her hands into mine.
"We are in this together babe."
The idea of the breeder was hers same with the person she chose. I felt a rare hope within me. I was finally going to hold a pup in my arms. Wishes I hope to come through at the back of my mind.
Bringing it up was going to add to Neomi's pain, and I didn't want to see those bags on her face.
I headed to the place where I would be meeting the breeder. I had optioned for a new house. Since it was prohibited, I didn't want the news flying among the maids and I couldn't risk my mother staying in the same house with the breeder. It was like putting a lion and a goat together.
I was going to take care of her.
As I drew closer to the mansion surrounded by shrubs and tall oak trees at the outline of the pack. I felt my heart throbbing within.
I had ordered some maids to clean up the place for her arrival with Athena the beta of the pack. I saw the car pack outside, I knew they were already in.
Highlighting from my car, I felt this air of tightness, I was sure I was going to make a great father. The drawing of a tiny voice in my head questioned.
What if it doesn't work? You know it is the last embryo and your last chance of being a father. What happens then?
The pessimistic voice was louder and couldn't but exhale.
I walked into the familiar building In Front of me, I saw her. She was backing me looking through the large window at the dinner. My eyes fell on the heart behind me. She wore a short simple white gown that hugged her shape dearly.
I was so lost in the deadly figure In Front of me that I forgot totally about Athena.
"Alpha," she called behind me, how I detested such names. I lived under the shadow of my mother. She is a powerful woman. In the people's eyes, I was their Alpha just to obligate tradition but for her, I was just a puppet.
She had once threatened to strip my title off me for my sister.
I adjusted my composure, planting a fake smile on my lips and just then she turned to face us.
Oh my, her eyes.
Her eyes, I screamed in my head, those were the most beautiful set of eyes I had ever seen. I was mesmerized by her beauty. Brown hair and pouty pink lips.
I was beginning to think I love blonde, Neomi is blonde. She drew closer and my eyes went from her legs down up. My inside warmed up, my wolf was troubling me.
My wolf has woken back up again, my wolf has given up on me ever since my mother's manipulation. It seems everything within me went lame.
I wondered if she used magic, I was woven within the tips of her fingers. She stopped a few steps away from me and I just couldn't take my eyes off her. I was staring down at her. I could see fear in her eyes standing in front of an anonymous Alpha.
I was seen more often, and my name was surely on the lips of everyone but my face was blurred in their mind ever since my father died, it seems I was six feet underneath the earth.
"My Alpha," she bowed her head in respect, Athena stood beside her and just couldn't let those four letter words leave my mouth.
"MATE,"
My inside warmed up dearly, I felt this peace I had never felt before, was it just the change because of the beautiful she-wolf that stood in front of me?
Athena cleared her throat, drifting me up from my thoughts, I must have stared so hard. I felt so embarrassed moving my eyes to other things apart from the two figures In Front of me.
But then something struck me, she never showed any sign that she was my mate, she felt absent minded, scared, and something else. She felt hopeless.
"Alpha Jason, meet Nyla your breeder,"
"Nyla, this is Alpha Jason," she introduced us.
"Nice to meet you Alpha" Her head was bent to the ground like there was something about the cold floor that stared back at her.
"What would you like to have?" Athena asked.
"Are you sure you might find something here, is been abandoned for years,"
"Never can tell,"
"Nyla, what would you like to have?" She hesitated for some time before she answered.
"Water,"
"Soda will be cool by me," I didn't tell her to ask me when she turned her gaze at me.
I wandered out into the rooms searching for our orders. There was a momentarily pierced silence, no one spoke a word except for the birds that flew from one tree to the other, their melody echoing through the open windows.
I don't seem to understand her sad expression but it was mixed with surprises, surprises that I was down in a wheelchair.
I held my two hands to the arm of the wheelchair, pushing myself up to stand on my feet. In pain, she rushed over to me holding up my shoulder.
How was I capable of taking care of this woman who was going to carry my child when I couldn't even take care of myself?
