Chapter 4 All Belongings
She looked at him seriously while blinking her large eyes, and her cherry lips were slightly pursed.
"You... acted rashly just now."
He frowned. "What?"
"You didn't have to argue that way in the wedding dress store just now... Why did you have to put on airs and buy that wedding dress? It was more than five thousand dollars. Do you know how long we can survive on that?"
He didn't know how long they could survive on that. That amount was probably not even enough for a meal for him in the past.
Candice looked at her quietly. There was still no expression on his angular face.
"I... I don't blame you." Her voice softened. "I just want to say that we are married, so we have to make plans for the future. I know you want to help me vent my anger, but we have to endure it when it's necessary. We still need to use the money for various things for our family..."
Family?
For some reason, his lips twitched unconsciously when he heard that word.
On the second day of their wedding, everything went back to normal.
Matthew left the bedroom for Candice to sleep in while he slept on the sofa outside. There was only one blanket, and he let her have it. He wrapped himself in a worn-out blanket. Candice felt a bit apologetic and stood at the door of the bedroom for a long time. However, she couldn't bring herself to ask him to sleep in the room no matter what.
It seemed that Matthew was right. She needed time to adapt to the fact that she had a husband.
She lowered her head slightly and pursed her lips as she chuckled.
It was said that Matthew was indifferent and not good at communicating with others. He was very good at fighting. But she felt that he was not so bad. At least, he showed her enough respect and tolerance.
"I've made breakfast. Come and eat."
Matthew was doing morning exercises in the yard. When he heard her soft voice, his heart seemed to soften a little.
Candice had prepared some buns, eggs, and milk. When Matthew stepped into this small house, he suddenly felt that it was much brighter. Ever since they'd gotten married, this place was no longer as dusty as it used to be.
There was more human warmth now. After Candice's effort, everything was filled with a warm aura, as well as the smell of sunlight.
Matthew smiled unconsciously as he sat at the table.
However, she seemed to have a lot on her mind, sitting across from him.
Matthew guessed a little and continued to say calmly, "Go to the room and open the drawer of the cabinet. There is a box inside. Take it over."
Candice agreed to it. According to what he said, she had indeed found a carved wooden box in the depths of the drawer. The patterns on the box were exquisitely carved. It was beautiful and gave off a faint fragrance.
Matthew took it over and opened it. Inside were a few pieces of gold jewelry. There was a necklace, an earring, and a ring. The bracelet was made of gold and jade. The style was very special. The jade embedded in the gold was warm and transparent. It was full of color and looked magnificent.
Candice's eyes widened as she looked at him in confusion.
"This..."
"We're married, and I didn't give you any decent gift." Matthew held them in his hand and looked at them casually. "These are what I made up for you. Look, what else are you dissatisfied with?"
Candice tightened and then loosened her hands under the table. She was a little nervous. "Keep it all." Matthew closed the box and pushed them to her. He looked at her quietly with his deep-set eyes. "This is all that I can take out, as well as everything in this family. We're already married, so you should be in charge of it. That's why I'm giving you all my possessions."
Candice stole a glance at Matthew's cold and collected face. For some reason, a bit of sweetness seeped into her heart.
She nodded and accepted it. She was too embarrassed to look up at Matthew's eyes, so she had to get up and ran into the kitchen. "I'm going to cook."
After cooking lunch skillfully, Candice and Matthew sat down at the table.
At this time, her mobile phone rang, and her brother, Chuck Ian, sent her a message. "Candice, Mom is sent to the hospital by the James family, but no one paid! When can we get the medical expenses? If they don't come, the doctor will stop the medication!"
Her heart tightened.
"Why are you in a daze?" Suddenly, a low voice interrupted her thoughts.
Candice snapped out of her daze and abruptly looked into his deep-set eyes. She couldn't help but tremble slightly. For some reason, Matthew's aura was different from that of an ordinary person's and always gave her a strong sense of oppression when she looked at him.
"Nothing..." she said softly.
Matthew put down the cutlery, and there seemed to be a profound meaning in his eyes. "Do you have something to tell me?"
Candice hurriedly shook her head.
However, Matthew was not in a hurry. He looked at her for a while, smiled gently, and started to eat again.
Since she didn't want to say it, he stopped asking about it. Sooner or later, she would lose her composure.
That night, Candice's heart was a mess. She read the message sent by Chuck repeatedly. Countless ways to earn money flashed through her mind, but a slow remedy would not resolve that emergency.
The James family ignored her even if she asked them for money as if they had already forgotten their promise. Her mother's medical expenses were an urgent need. She didn't have time to argue with the James family for so long. The only way now was to sell her mother's ring.
She quietly closed the door, opened the drawer of the cabinet, and took out her mother's ring from the box. Her eyes fell on the carved wooden box on the side, and the jewelry inside was shining under the moonlight.
Her mother's ring was probably worthless. She didn't know how much it could be sold for, but this bracelet looked expensive.
She took out the bracelet and hesitated for a long time. Finally, she wrapped it carefully and put it into her pocket.
