Chapter 5 To Pawn
The next day, Candice came to the jewelry shop with her mother's ring and the bracelet that Matthew had given her.
"Well, they're good." The jewelry shop's staff nodded and chuckled. "Miss, although your two jewelry styles are relatively old, they are classic and of superior quality. Now it's rare to see such good gold and jade items."
"How much can it be exchanged for?" Candice looked at her with anticipation.
"Miss, do you mean to mortgage them?" The staff smiled and took her to a small room inside.
There were several professional instruments on the table. The staff asked her to wait here for a while and then left.
Candice sat there and looked around. This jewelry store was so luxurious that it was beyond her imagination.
She didn't have any hope before going there. After all, the bracelet seemed to have been quite old, and Matthew couldn't give her anything good with his condition.
She didn't expect that the staff here would let her stay.
She held the bracelet in her hand and weighed it in her hands. Then, she stood up and walked back and forth in the room, hesitating.
She didn't know that her every move had been observed by someone through the surveillance camera.
"Mr. White, this is an ancestral treasure of the Holland family... Should I take the young lady here now?"
Behind the wide desk, he stared at the scene on the computer screen with a cynical smile on his handsome face. He leaned back, crossed his long legs on the table, narrowed his eyes, and said with a smile, "No rush. We'll wait and see!"
"But what if she stole it?"
"I don't think so." Jensen White turned on his lighter and lit a cigarette. "I heard that Matt is married. This should be his dear wife. Humph! He gave her such a valuable thing to keep... Matt must not have thought that his wife would take his treasure here!"
"Mr. White, what should we do next?"
"Tell the shop assistant to offer her a hundred thousand dollars first!"
Candice anxiously waited for the shop assistant. When the shop assistant came back and saw her, she grinned and said, "Miss, after our professional appraisal, there's no problem with putting a hundred thousand dollars for the mortgage of this bracelet."
Candice could not believe what she had heard, and she was stunned for ten whole seconds.
A hundred thousand dollars?
"What about the ring?"
"Your ring doesn't look very good. I'm afraid it can only be mortgaged at three thousand dollars."
She held the bracelet tightly, and a look of embarrassment appeared on her delicate face.
This price was far beyond her expectation. She didn't expect that the jewelry would be so valuable.
With this hundred thousand dollars, not to mention his mother's current and future medical expenses, she could even send Chuck to a better school...
But this was a wedding gift from Matthew.
Candice's heart skipped a beat, and she lightly frowned.
At this moment, the image of Matthew handing the jewelry box to her suddenly flashed through her mind.
"This is all of my property. I'll leave it to you. You'll be in charge of this family in the future."
She bit her lip and felt guilty. He had given her everything he could, but how could she treat his sincerity in such a way?
"Miss, are you not satisfied with the price?" The staff member smiled cautiously. "As for the price, we can discuss it again."
"I'll only sell this ring. I won't sell the bracelet."
Jensen raised his eyebrows in surprise when he heard Candice's words from upstairs.
"Oh, she didn't want to sell it." He narrowed his eyes slightly, and his beautiful face was full of unruliness. He sat on the sofa, took out the phone, and said with a smile, "Matt, your wife has come to me to pledge with your ancestral treasure. Do you know that?"
Matthew was silent on the other end of the phone.
However, even through the phone, Jensen could guess that Matthew must be expressionless.
He would not expose his emotions. It was his signature move.
"Matt." Jensen coughed twice. "Don't you have anything to say?"
"What should I say?" Matthew said with a faint smile, "I gave it to her, so it's hers now. It's her business to deal with it any way she wants."
"But it's Dewy Breeze. Your great-grandmother has worn it!"
Matthew did not speak and added some weight to the dumbbell. When he raised it, the lines of his muscles were tightened and he was as strong as a lion.
"How much did she sell the bracelet for?"
"Well..." Jensen smiled. "She didn't sell it, but she sold her mother's worthless ring!"
Matthew frowned slightly. Since last night, he had noticed her restlessness. She had been glancing at the drawer all that while. At that time, he had expected that she would sell the jewelry.
But he didn't expect that she would not do anything to the bracelet even though she had gone to the jewelry store.
"Matt, I happened to be here today. I recognized Dewy Breeze as soon as she took it out. I thought it was a bold thief who stole it from you. I didn't expect it to be your wife!"
Jensen smiled again. "Matt, she's interesting. I thought she was short of money, so I deliberately asked the shop assistant to offer her a high price... Of course, it can't be compared with the value of Dewy Breeze, but in her opinion, it must be very high!"
"Hmm, and then?"
"And then..." Jensen scratched his head. "I didn't expect that she wouldn't sell it!"
There was a strange feeling in Matthew's heart. They had already become husband and wife. Did she plan not to open up to him? She was in trouble, but she didn't tell him and insisted on shouldering the burden alone...
"In the end, she sold her worthless ring, which was only worth three thousand dollars."
"Is it worthless?" His eyes narrowed, and a vague smile appeared on his face. "How can my wife's thing be worthless?"
Jensen understood. He knew that he had to offer a high price for this ring. He could not let the thing belonging to Matthew's wife be regarded as worthless.
