CHAPTER 5 Who is She

Marcus POV.

She really did it.

I never thought Amelia would sign those papers but she did. I asked my lawyer to get the papers ready when she travelled abroad, but I was waiting for the perfect opportunity before I handed them over to her.

Rose was so excited to see Amelia walk out of the mansion with a copy of the papers, but I wasn't because something didn't sit right with me. If there was anyone who was supposed to walk out, it was supposed to be me and not Amelia.

She would be nothing without me, so why would she…

"We need to celebrate this!" Rose shrieked excitedly, and her voice snapped me back to reality. We were now back inside the mansion, and the guests had all exited the house.

"Celebrate what?"

"We have finally managed to get rid of that witch and it's worth celebrating. Plus, this is our opportunity to finally be seen together in public." The excitement in her tone made it so difficult for me to hear her properly.

She walked over to Amelia's wardrobe and threw it open to reveal rows and rows of clothes, bags and shoes.

"Now, what should I wear?"

Few minutes later, we left the house and made our way to the top restaurant in town. Not everyone could afford it so it was impossible to find it fully booked or closed so when we walked up to the door and the security refused to step aside, I was taken aback.

"Do you know who I am?" I sneered angrily at him, but he still wouldn't budge, "One word from me, and you would lose your job."

"We're very sorry, but you would have to find another restaurant. We're closed for the day because we have been fully booked." The security man said.

I glanced behind him into the restaurant through the glass door and frowned heavily when I realized that the whole place was empty and there wasn't a single soul visible inside other than the servers.

"What are you talking about? The place is practically empty."

The security doesn't respond. I clenched my fists tightly as I felt the anger rising within me. No one had ever ignored me before, even the top officials in a room listened to me so why would an ordinary security man ignore me and try to kick me out of a restaurant?

"I could buy the entire place if I wanted to at this minute so get me the manager right this instance," I demanded as I stepped closer to him and refused to back down.

The security still refused to move regardless of my threats, and that enraged me more than anything. I was about to make a phone call when a more civil-looking man stepped out of the restaurant with a smile on his face.

"Is there a problem here?" He asked, and I nodded angrily.

"Are you the manager?"

"Yes, I am."

"Good, then you should teach your security some manners because he was just about to make you lose a valuable customer." With that said, I attempted to walk past the security again, but he held me back gently.

"I am very sorry sir, but we can't let you in, someone reserved the restaurant to celebrate a divorce, and she was quite specific about not having anyone around." The manager explained softly.

I was dumbfounded. Why would a woman celebrate her divorce? The only ones allowed to do that were the men.

"What did you just say? Who is this person, and why would she…" My words trailed off when Rose tapped my shoulder, and I turned around to find Amelia walking towards us with a handful of people behind her.

What was she doing here? I growled.

"You can follow me around and beg me all you want Amelia, but the deed is done, and I am not going to take you back," I called out to her.

I was oddly satisfied at the fact that she showed up to plead with me, but she didn't even stop or glance at me. She just walked right past me and made her way to the front door. I was stunned, but what shocked me the most was that the security man actually stepped aside with a bow to let her through.

"Welcome Miss, please follow me and I will show you to your table. Right this way." The manager led her and the people with her in.

My mouth hung open in shock. I couldn't believe what I had just seen, and it was at that moment it hit me. The manager had said something about someone reserving the whole place to celebrate a divorce, so did that mean that the woman she was talking about was Amelia?

I remained rooted to my spot with my eyes on them as they moved around inside the restaurant until they disappeared from my sight.

Why was Amelia celebrating our divorce? Other than that, how was she able to afford this place? It cost a lot to get a table here, but she had reserved the entire place. I made sure she never had access to my money so how was she able to do this?

This opened my eyes to something I had always overlooked. Ever since we got married, I had noticed that regardless of the fact that I barely gave her any money, she always managed to wear the best clothes and afford some things she wasn't supposed to be able to.

Or… was she stealing from me? What other explanation was there? She had nothing to her name so she was definitely stealing from me.

"That was Amelia, right?" Rose's bewildered voice came from behind me, but I ignored it.

At that moment, something snapped inside of me, and I tried to make it past the guard. I just had to get to her and ask her some questions. She could have stolen my money for all I know. She could have been a…

My thoughts were cut short when the guard shoved me back roughly and threatened to harm me if I didn't leave the premises.

I was enraged by the embarrassment so I walked back to my car. As soon as we pulled out of the restaurant's parking lot, I put a call through to my assistant, Mark, to look into Amelia and every single thing in her name.

If she had stolen anything from me, then I would ensure I hunt her down until every single penny is returned. She had no idea who she had just messed with, and luckily for her, grandfather wasn't around to protect her anymore.

"Find out everything about her, every single detail, including the people she associates with," I ordered Mark over the phone.

This was something I should have done a long time ago, but I didn't think she posed any threat at all, in fact, she looked like she wasn't even capable or interested in the kind of wealth we had.

She didn't look that smart, so how did she pull it off?

We arrived back at the house. I totally ignored Rose and made my way to my study to wait for Mark and luckily for him, he didn't keep me waiting.

"So… spit it out, what did you find?" I asked impatiently as he dropped some files on my desk.

"We went through her belongings and tried to find out whatever we could. Everything you have known about her up until now has been fabRichardated, her name and her identity is fake, and I think you should see this." Mark said as he dropped a book in front of me.

I grabbed it and quickly scanned through the pages. My eyes widened in surprise when I realized it was her diary, and a particular line written down in the book caught my attention instantly.

"I love Marcus… I love him too much to leave him and tell him the truth about who I am. No matter how badly he treats me, my heart still yearns for his affection, and I have hope that one day, he will love me back."
