CHAPTER 3 Adoption

Edna

I woke up to the sound of growls and snarls and almost fell off my tree when I saw two rogues staring up at me and a wild wolf growling at me, teeth bare with saliva dripping.

"Hello princess. One of them said, waving up at me with a sinister grin on his lips."

Fear gripped my chest and my Palm became sweaty when I saw the ravenous hunger in their eyes.

I was their prey.

"Please, I don't want any trouble,"

"Neither do we," the blonde one smiled, he looked like he was missing most of his top teeth.

"We just want to talk, so come down princess…"

The brown head man said with a haunting smile on his face.

I shook my head, afraid for my life.

These guys were not nice guys even though their words sounded nice.

"Leave me alone please,"

"Alright, you little slut..if you don't come down here right now, I'm coming up to get you!"

All of a sudden their voices went from playful to dark and I grabbed the tree bark tighter, hoping they were bluffing but as I stared down at them, it became apparent that they weren't.

"I'm going to take that as I am." He smiled up at me and began to climb up the tree.

Panicked, I plucked a coconut from the tree and threw it down, it hit him and angered him.

"You are going to regret that," he growled and then increased his pace.

I began to throw down more coconuts but it was either they missed or he shook it off.

I was beginning to shake as he got closer. I needed to figure out a way to get out of the tree without being caught up by them.

I looked around and found another tree that was close enough to this one.

It was about four feet away.

If I could jump to that tree and continue, I might lose them but it would be a long shot.

I looked down to find that the rogue was already an arm stretch away from me. Without thinking, I jumped towards the other tree and surprisingly landed unceremoniously on a strong branch of the tree.

"You can't run from me!" The blonde one that had been chasing me earlier cackled maniacally.

I ignored the fear coursing through my veins and jumped again.

I continued jumping from the tree.

I could hear the rogue close behind me, jumping from tree to tree.

He was close now, only one tree apart.

"I've got you now," I heard his voice from behind me.

He was now on the same tree as I was. How the fuck did he do it so fast?

I panicked and jumped to the other tree but I jumped too fast and managed to miss my steps.

I fell to the ground and screamed as I felt my leg crack.

I tried to stand up and run but I couldn't because my leg was broken and it would take me a few days to heal.

I was doomed.

I heard the rogue jump down from the tree with w thud before looking up at him.

"Did you really think you could escape from us?" He asked, his maniacal laughter sending goosebumps all over my body.

"You have to admit, brother, it was fun." The brown head rogue came out of nowhere in the opposite direction his brother stood watching me.

"That is true. Bound her up..let's take her to the leader."

Blondie said to his brother and as his brothers advanced towards me, an arrow shot through his heart and he fell to the ground.

I screamed out in fear.

"Who the fuck is that?" Blondie growled but there was no answer, just radio silence.

Not even the crickets or birds chirped.

Blondie tiptoed towards his brother and checked his pulse but it appeared his brother was dead.

He took out the arrow and his eyes widened in shock as if he had seen a ghost.

He looked around him and all started to back away slowly, his eyes still looking around. He got to a certain point when it appeared he was sure that he was safe and he began to run. He had barely run five feet when an arrow whooshed past me and got him in the back.

He fell to the ground with a thud.

"Are you okay?"

A baritone voice asked before the owner appeared.

I gasped, immediately recognizing who it was.

"Your highness." I stumbled up and bowed down to him.

"Are you alright?" He appeared beside me, bringing my head up to look at him.

"Y…yes." I stuttered, afraid to look into his eyes.

I could not believe I was standing before the king of the Blood moon kingdom.

What was he doing in these paths?

"Your Majesty…" I quickly added.

"You know who I am." He said.

I nodded afraid that I would only stutter if I dared answer.

"I see. What are you doing here alone in the woods?"

I asked.

"I was banished from my pack, your Majesty."

He frowned and I realized that I had just said the wrong thing.

"Why? What did you do?"

He asked.

I contemplated whether or not to tell him the truth.

"I…I…"

"Did you kill anybody?" He cut me off, his voice hard.

"No," I shook my head.

"Poison?" He asked.

"No," I shook my head.

He eyed me up and down and nodded.

"You must be exhausted. Come with me to my kingdom."

He said.

I blinked up at him and glanced at the three guards behind him and back at him.

"Except of course you'd rather be with the rogues."

I quickly shook my head.

"Alright then, come with me."
