Chapter 4
"You'll take responsibility? With what?"
The department head sneered, "If Mr. Harris Johnson really dies, I think you'll be joining him!"
"I can die. But what if he doesn't die?"
Alexandra's cold gaze made the department head shiver involuntarily.
He took a step back. "How is that possible?"
"Why not? Do you want him to die?"
Alexandra's voice was icy and firm. "Or are you just looking for a scapegoat?"
"What are you talking about!" The department head defended loudly. "I never said that!"
"If a tiny pill can save Mr. Harris Johnson's life, I'll kneel and thank you for saving the entire department!"
The department head stared at Alexandra with a hint of disdain in his eyes.
To him, Harris was beyond saving, no medicine could cure him.
Even if Harris made it to the operating table, his chances of survival were less than twenty percent.
Sending Harris to surgery was almost a death sentence.
In this situation, if a single pill could save Harris's life, what use were they as doctors?
Alexandra couldn't be bothered with him anymore. She turned to Elodie and instructed, "Take Mr. Harris Johnson back to his room and start an IV immediately."
"Got it!" Elodie trusted Alexandra and didn't hesitate to prepare.
The department head shouted again, "An IV now? What kind of IV?"
"Mr. Harris Johnson has been unconscious for a long time. He's malnourished and weak, so of course, he won't wake up."
Alexandra didn't even glance at the department head as she pushed Harris towards the nearest room.
The department head yelled after them, "Stop right there! Where are you taking Mr. Harris Johnson?"
"If anything happens, can you take responsibility?"
"You talk too much. Didn't I say I'd take responsibility?" Alexandra glared at him, her eyes filled with a murderous intent.
The department head froze, not daring to say another word.
In the room, Elodie started the IV for Harris. The entire department gathered around, whispering among themselves.
"Will this work? Mr. Harris Johnson doesn't look like he's waking up at all!"
"Of course not. I've never heard of a miracle pill that can save someone with just one dose!"
"Exactly, this challenges everything I've learned in medical school!"
"If the department head can't do anything, I doubt Mr. Harris Johnson will wake up!"
"What are we going to do? If Mr. Frederick Johnson finds out, we're all in trouble!"
"Why are you scared? We didn't give him the pill. She's the one taking the fall, so we'll be fine!"
"True, she's got guts!"
"Mr. Frederick Johnson is here!"
At that moment, there was a commotion outside the room.
The department head's face changed, and he quickly went out to greet him.
The doctors who had been gossiping scattered.
"Why isn't Mr. Harris Johnson waking up?" Elodie was worried. "If Mr. Frederick Johnson finds out, you might be in trouble."
"He'll wake up in less than half an hour. What do I have to be afraid of?"
Alexandra sat beside Harris, checking his heart rate. "His heart rate is normal. He's out of danger."
"You've got guts!" Elodie finally calmed down. "If that pill doesn't save Mr. Harris Johnson, the consequences will be dire!"
"You don't even know who Mr. Harris Johnson is, yet you acted so recklessly. If something happens, you won't be able to take responsibility!"
"Don't you trust me?" Alexandra looked up, staring at Elodie.
Elodie felt a chill down her spine. "It's not that I don't trust you. I'm just worried about you!"
As they spoke, a tall man in a tailored suit, surrounded by the department head and other doctors, entered the room.
The man's well-fitted suit accentuated his perfect physique, and his handsome face looked like it was sculpted by the gods.
Seeing Harris still lying on the bed, Frederick Johnson frowned and lowered his voice. "What's wrong with my grandfather?"
"Mr. Harris Johnson is critically ill. He needed surgery to save his life, but without a family member's signature, the hospital didn't dare to proceed."
The department head quickly explained, "Then this reckless woman appeared, gave Mr. Harris Johnson a pill, and had him moved back to his room for an IV. Because of the pill, Mr. Harris Johnson has remained unconscious and can't undergo surgery."
"Was it you who gave my grandfather the pill?"
Frederick looked at Alexandra, his gaze piercing through her like a thousand knives.
Alexandra stood up. "Yes, it was me."
"What did you give my grandfather?"
Frederick's voice was icy, making everyone in the room break out in a cold sweat.
"A pill to save his life," Alexandra answered truthfully.
"Then why isn't he awake?" Frederick frowned. "Because of you, my grandfather missed the best time for surgery. Do you want to die?"
"I was saving him."
Alexandra turned her attention back to Harris.
Harris's complexion was rosy, and his breathing was steady, indicating his vital signs were improving.
"You're lying." Frederick lowered his head slightly. "Tie her up. If anything happens to my grandfather, she dies!"
The black-suited bodyguards behind Frederick moved in, surrounding Alexandra and pulling out ropes to tie her up.
Elodie rushed forward to stop them. "Mr. Frederick Johnson! Please calm down. Mr. Harris Johnson will wake up in less than half an hour! Just wait a little longer!"
"Wake up in half an hour? Are you kidding?" The department head's voice was sharp. "If a single pill can wake a dying man in half an hour, I've never heard of it!"
"Mr. Harris Johnson took the pill, so surgery is no longer an option. If he doesn't make it through the night, death is the only outcome!"
Frederick's face darkened further under the department head's instigation. "Do it!"
"No!" Elodie shielded Alexandra, pleading. "Please, just wait a little longer, even if it's just half an hour!"
The bodyguards only listened to Frederick. One of them grabbed Elodie's arm and squeezed, causing a bone to dislocate.
Elodie screamed in pain, cold sweat dripping from her forehead.
"It hurts!"
Alexandra glared at them, her eyes filled with murderous intent.
