Chapter 5

A group of men in black swarmed in and grabbed Alexandra in an instant.

Before she could resist, ropes were already wrapped around her wrists.

“What’s all this racket? It’s driving me nuts.”

Harris’s old, raspy voice echoed, startling everyone.

Harris, lying in the hospital bed, slowly opened his eyes.

Frederick was in disbelief. Once he realized what was happening, he rushed over.

“Grandpa, you’re awake?”

“Frederick.” Harris reached out and tightly grasped Frederick’s hand. “I’m not dead?”

“No!” Frederick was overjoyed. “Doctor! Where’s the doctor? Come check on my grandpa!”

Simon never expected Harris to open his eyes again.

At that moment, Simon Jones, the head of the department, was trembling with fear, standing frozen in place.

He didn’t speak, and no one else dared to move.

Elodie shouted, “Let Alexandra go! If it weren’t for her medicine, Mr. Harris Johnson wouldn’t have woken up!”

Her words caught Frederick’s attention.

Frederick turned to look at Alexandra.

Her hands were bound, but her eyes remained resolute.

“You’re Alexandra?”

“Untie me!” Alexandra was annoyed. “I saved your grandpa, and this is how you repay me?”

Frederick glared at the men in black. “What are you waiting for? Untie her!”

At his command, the men rushed forward and freed Alexandra from the ropes.

Alexandra rubbed her wrists, rolled her eyes, and turned to leave.

But the men in black blocked the door, cutting off her exit.

“What are you doing? Move aside!”

Alexandra was displeased, but Frederick approached her. “Since you saved my grandpa, could you check on him again?”

“I’ve already given him the medicine. His body will be fine now. With proper care, he’ll be back to full health in less than two weeks.”

Alexandra didn’t even look at Frederick as she spoke.

“But he still needs surgery. You should find a responsible doctor!”

She was referring to Simon, who stiffened at her words.

“Who are you, really?”

Frederick realized Alexandra wasn’t an ordinary person.

“Me?” Alexandra didn’t bother explaining. “Just a regular high school student.”

“That’s impossible.”

Clearly, this wasn’t the answer Frederick wanted. “Regardless, you saved my grandpa. Thank you.”

“It was nothing.” Alexandra waved her hand. “Can I leave now?”

“Give me your contact information.” Frederick pulled out his phone. “In case my grandpa needs help again, I want to reach you.”

“I told you, I’m not a doctor. I’m just a high school student. Your grandpa’s illness should be handled by professionals, not me.”

Alexandra said, suddenly turning to Simon.

Her gaze was sharp, and Simon trembled, nearly collapsing.

“You need a doctor who can handle pressure, not someone like him who’s afraid of taking responsibility and keeps delaying.”

“Don’t slander me!” Simon quickly stepped forward to explain. “Mr. Frederick Johnson, you can’t believe a young girl’s words!”

“She got lucky saving Harris, but that doesn’t mean she’s skilled!”

“I’ve been a doctor for decades. Are you saying I’m not as good as a young girl?”

“Enough, Dr. Simon.” Elodie, who had been silent, couldn’t hold back. “I forgot to tell you, she’s my father Declan’s student.”

“What?”

Simon looked at Elodie in disbelief.

Elodie was just a head nurse, but her father Declan was a renowned shaman.

Though retired, Declan’s skills were still formidable.

Many doctors couldn’t match him.

“You’re saying this young girl is your father’s student?”

Simon couldn’t believe it and emphasized again.

Elodie nodded firmly. “Alexandra has great potential. My father took her under his wing years ago. The medicine she gave Harris was made by her.”

“Doctors couldn’t treat the illness, but a shaman expert could.”

Elodie walked towards Alexandra.

“And those two pills were made from rare ingredients, taking years to produce. Alexandra intended to save her own grandpa with them!”

“She’s kind-hearted and couldn’t ignore someone in need. She gave the last pill to Mr. Harris Johnson. It was a good deed, but you treated her like a scapegoat! It’s despicable!”

Simon was stunned, his face full of disbelief.

“So, you were afraid of taking responsibility, which is why you didn’t operate on my grandpa.”

Frederick understood now. He turned to Simon, his gaze sharp as a knife, piercing Simon’s heart.

Simon collapsed in fear. “I wasn’t, Mr. Frederick Johnson. It’s hospital policy. I was following the rules.”

“Policy?” Frederick sneered. “Without this young lady’s help, my grandpa might have died under your policies!”

Alexandra was tired of listening. She pushed past the men in black. “Move aside.”

“Wait!” Frederick reached out and grabbed her arm.

Alexandra reflexively shook him off. “What do you want?”

“Give me your contact information!” Frederick looked at her seriously. “I want to thank you for saving my grandpa.”

“How will you thank me?” Alexandra was expressionless. “If I give you my contact, will you transfer money to me?”

“Of course, how much do you want?” Frederick agreed without hesitation.

“One million dollars.” Alexandra didn’t mean it; she just wanted to scare them off.

But Frederick agreed without thinking. “Sure, let’s exchange contacts, and I’ll transfer it.”

“What?” Alexandra was stunned. But she couldn’t take back her words now.

“I don’t want the money, okay?”

Alexandra regretted it, but Frederick’s determined gaze made her scalp tingle. She finally took out her phone.

They exchanged contacts, and the money was transferred quickly.

The transfer was marked as a voluntary gift.

Alexandra didn’t hesitate and accepted it.

“Can I leave now?”

“Of course! If I need you, can I contact you?”

Frederick still wasn’t sure about Harris’s condition.
