Chapter 8 Was I Drugged?

Gloria glanced at Katherine, who was looking at Barry with concern, and felt a wave of relief wash over her. "Katherine, no one's ever been this kind to Barry. No one's ever offered to take care of him like this."

"It's Barry's lucky day meeting you." Gloria said, turning her gaze back to Barry. His little face was blank, showing no emotion.

"Isn't that right, Barry?" Gloria added, gently patting his head.

Barry looked up at Katherine, his eyes lighting up for a moment before his face went back to being expressionless.

Katherine, supporting Gloria, had a gentle look in her eyes. "Don't worry, Grandma. I'll take good care of Barry. No one's going to bully him anymore."

Gloria's eyes softened with comfort, and she nodded, her smile growing warmer. "Anyone who's good to kids has a good heart. But I know there are people in this family who always disapprove of everything. Don't let that trouble you. Just live here peacefully, I've got your back!"

Katherine knew that in the Martinez family, surrounded by enemies, Gloria was the only one she could rely on.

"Got it, Grandma."

Barry rubbed his eyes, looking sleepy, and tugged on Katherine's hand, wanting to go to his room. Katherine immediately understood and spoke softly, "Barry, you're sleepy, huh? Let's get you to bed."

Gloria watched them with a satisfied smile.

After Katherine got Barry to sleep, she passed by Howard's room just as a servant was about to bring in some medicine.

"I'll take it from here," Katherine said, stepping in front of the servant.

To help Howard, she needed to understand his condition better, so she wanted to take care of him herself.

Usually, servants were happy to let the master take over, but this one seemed reluctant to leave.

"Ms. Wilson... I mean, Mrs. Martinez! How can I let you do this? I've been taking care of Mr. Martinez for a long time. Let me handle it." The servant said, trying to get into the room quickly.

Katherine, always cautious, noticed something off in the servant's expression. "I said, I'll take care of him today. You can go."

Katherine took the medicine forcefully, her eyes narrowing. The servant, flustered by her glare, had no choice but to leave, his steps hurried.

Katherine looked at the bowl of medicine in her hand, walked into Howard's room, and closed the door.

"Could there be something wrong with this medicine?" she thought, recalling the servant's odd behavior. She decided to check it out.

She poured some of the medicine into a bottle to have it tested. Suspecting the medicine was problematic, she poured the rest into the toilet.

Katherine rushed over to Edward with the medicine, her voice urgent. "Edward, I need you to test this medicine for me. Something feels off about it."

Edward looked up, his voice sweet and childlike, but his demeanor was mature beyond his years. "Mom, is this for my future stepdad? Is he a good guy?"

Katherine couldn't hide anything from Edward; he was too sharp. "Edward, I know what you're thinking. Trust me, I wouldn't care so much about someone who isn't good."

Edward smiled and took the medicine. "Alright, I'll help you this time, Mom."

Katherine ruffled Edward's hair, wondering where he got his stubborn streak from. "Thanks, Edward!"

That night, Katherine lay in bed, unable to sleep. When she finally drifted off, she had a strange dream. In the dream, she felt someone enter her room, but she couldn't open her eyes.

"This woman is really beautiful. If we send her to a nightclub, wouldn't a lot of men be all over her?" Two men's voices reached Katherine's ears, and she suddenly realized it wasn't a dream!

But the worst part was, Katherine felt like her body was made of lead, unable to move.

'Am I drugged?' Her mind was clear, but her body wouldn't respond, making her panic.

The next second, she felt herself being dragged off the bed by two men, one of them grumbling. "I didn't expect her to be this heavy!"

Katherine couldn't even open her eyes, but as the men dragged her, she pinched her finger hard. The blood vessels there led directly to the brain, temporarily clearing her mind, a trick Edward had taught her.

Just as she was about to be dragged out of the room, she suddenly opened her eyes and broke free from the men's grip.

Normally, she wouldn't have been able to, but the men were careless, not expecting her to move. Before they could react, Katherine used all her strength to crawl into the nearest room!

The first thing she did after crawling into the room was lock the door. After doing that, Katherine was exhausted, her head pounding.

The men outside kept knocking, trying to break down the door, but being in the Martinez Mansion, they didn't dare make too much noise. After a few knocks, they heard someone approaching and quickly fled.

Katherine lay on the floor, listening to the footsteps fade away, and then lost consciousness again. When she woke up, it was already morning.

Katherine had spent the night on the cold, unforgiving floor. By some stroke of luck, however, she awoke with no signs of ailment—no fever, no cold. She attributed her surprising resilience to the mansion's luxurious, high-quality carpet, which had offered a modicum of comfort amidst her discomfort.

She touched her aching head, recalling the events of the previous night, and slowly stood up, realizing she was in Howard's room.

Was it a coincidence? If she had entered another room, it would have been a disaster.

"You Martinez family people are really something, daring to drug me! If I hadn't noticed in time, who knows what would have happened!" She muttered while wiping Howard's body.

Suddenly, she felt Howard's finger move!

"Did I just... imagine that?"
