Chapter 4 Misunderstanding

Emily's face lit up with a hint of satisfaction when she heard the news.

"Is that so?" She dragged out the last word, "Ms. Sullivan, which company are you heading to? You've been helping me take care of Lewis for years. You deserve some credit, and I should help you check it out."

She played the part of Lewis's fiancée and stared at Daphne.

Daphne's eyes lowered slightly, a flicker of some unreadable emotion passing through them, and she said softly, "Thanks for your kindness, Miss Garcia, but I should figure it out myself."

At that moment, Gloria noticed the tears at the corner of Emily's eyes and gently wiped them with a tissue, "Emily, look, your eyes are all swollen from crying. Don't cry anymore, okay?"

Emily smiled softly, holding Gloria's hand warmly, "I know, Gloria. I'm just scared Lewis might fall for someone else."

Gloria reassured her, "Don't overthink it. You two are perfect for each other. No one else is worthy of him but you."

Hearing this, Emily's eyes sparkled like stars, "Really?"

Gloria gently patted her hand and nodded firmly.

Daphne stood silently to the side, almost like she was invisible.

After some more chatting and laughing, Gloria turned to Daphne with a cold look, "When Emily's in a bad mood, she likes cheesecake. Ms. Sullivan, go get some for her." Her tone was commanding, leaving no room for refusal.

Emily looked up at Gloria and smiled, "I didn't expect you to remember my favorite food, Gloria. Thank you." Then she gave Daphne a faint smile, "Sorry to trouble you, Ms. Sullivan."

Daphne pressed her lips together and said calmly, "It's no trouble. I'll go get it for Miss Garcia." With that, she turned and left without looking back.

She walked dazedly to the underground parking lot and pressed the car key in her hand. Then, she strode towards her car. Once inside, the faint smell of alcohol lingered in the air, and she suddenly remembered that she had been drinking.

Daphne held her forehead with one hand and shook her head lightly. She opened the car door and got out.

Unexpectedly, the next second, a pair of large hands firmly grabbed her hand.

Daphne was startled and looked up slightly, only to see Lewis's gloomy face.

Lewis snatched the keys from her hand, opened the car door without a word, and threw Daphne inside. His eyes were filled with an unshakable gloom, and he said coldly, "Daphne! Do you really want to leave me that much?"

In the narrow space, the air was filled with Lewis's unique faint mint scent. Her eyelashes trembled, and she said against her will, "Yes."

Then she added, "After all, I want freedom." Her tone was firm and left no room for refusal.

Lewis sat in the car, his calloused fingers pinching Daphne's chin, forcing her to look into his eyes, "Is this sincere or just a pretense?" His tone carried a hint of barely noticeable anger.

His deep pupils seemed to have a penetrating power, as if they could see through her innermost thoughts.

Her red lips moved slightly, her eyelashes trembled, and she slowly said, "Sincere."

Then, Daphne gently pushed Lewis, trying to keep her distance from him. Lewis noticed Daphne's small movements, and the coldness in his demeanor intensified. He braced himself on both sides of her, trapping her in his arms, and said mockingly, "You haven't even left yet, and you're already thinking about staying chaste for another man?"

Daphne instinctively turned her head, avoiding his gaze.

Suddenly, the car door slammed shut, and the narrow cabin became eerily quiet, as if they could hear each other's heartbeats.

The next second, Lewis forcibly turned Daphne's chin, making her look at him.

His deep eyes seemed to draw Daphne in, and she unconsciously held her breath.

Lewis leaned in close, whispering softly, "Dear, you haven't answered me yet."

Although his voice was gentle, to Daphne, it felt like the whisper of a devil. Lewis's fingers lightly pinched her waist, causing her to shudder.

"You..." Before she could finish speaking, he silenced her with a punishing, fierce kiss.

When Daphne's eyes became misty and she was almost out of breath, Lewis finally let her go.

"Daphne, you are quite bold." Lewis's eyes held an emotion that Daphne couldn't understand, a mix of obsession and madness. He grabbed her hands and raised them above her head.

Daphne suddenly realized what he intended to do and tried to push him away, but he firmly held her hands, rendering her unable to move.

"Mr. Anderson, are you crazy? We are in the car!" Daphne's eyes filled with tears as she looked at Lewis.

Lewis ignored her protests, and soon, the car was filled with the sound of her intermittent pleas for mercy.

"Mr. Anderson... please spare me..."

Unfortunately, Lewis did not respond to her pleas. The more she begged, the more intense he became.

It was a long time before Daphne lay weakly in the passenger seat, and Lewis finally let her go.

After a while, Daphne slowly put on her clothes with her sore hands.

At that moment, the phone she had placed beside her started ringing. Despite her discomfort, she fumbled around until she found it.

Seeing the caller's information, Daphne immediately answered the call.

Just as she was about to speak, a pain shot through her throat. She swallowed hard, and it felt a little better.

"Ms. Sullivan, why haven't you come back yet?" Gloria's displeased voice came through the phone.

Daphne bit her tongue, trying to make her voice sound normal, "Sorry, there are a lot of people, and I'm in line."

Hearing this, Gloria's face instantly darkened. Just as she was about to scold her, Emily held Gloria's hand and said considerately, "In that case, forget it. I won't eat."

She even looked at the time, "It's getting late, Gloria. Let Ms. Sullivan go back and rest early."

Gloria said reproachfully, "Emily, you're too kind. Ms. Sullivan, since Emily has spoken for you, you can go back and rest." With that, she hung up the phone.

Daphne's heart slowly settled down. She leaned wearily against the passenger seat and fell asleep unknowingly.

At this moment, Lewis was about to speak, but when he saw Daphne had fallen asleep, he remained silent.

He took a deep breath and then drove away.

Later, when Lewis drove Daphne home, he inadvertently saw her phone screen light up with a message: [Ms. Sullivan, looking forward to our meeting.]
