Chapter 7 Pretending to Matchmake

"What do you mean?" Daphne asked, looking confused.

As she spoke, she wiped a tear from her eye and stammered, "Because I saw the scratch marks on his neck!"

Emily slowly closed her eyes, her eyelids trembling. "Those scratch marks mean..."

The more she thought about it, the harder she cried.

"How could Lewis possibly like me? He clearly has someone else! If he liked me, how could he be with someone else?" Emily said, burying her head in her knees and crying silently.

Hearing about the scratch marks, Daphne almost choked. She swallowed and tried to keep her tone calm. "Mr. Anderson's favorite person is definitely you, no doubt about it. Remember? He previously..."

"If he loves me, why didn't he accept my project proposal? Why doesn't he want to work with me?" She turned her head, staring directly at Daphne.

At that moment, Daphne felt a bit guilty and didn't dare to meet her gaze. She suppressed her emotions and said casually, "Maybe it's because Mr. Anderson doesn't want you to be too tired. Once you start working together, you'll be extremely busy, and he cares about you."

Upon hearing this, Emily instantly stopped crying. With tear-streaked cheeks, she looked at Daphne eagerly, grabbing her hand and asking, "Really? Ms. Sullivan, you're not lying to me, are you?"

Daphne smiled gently. "Miss Garcia, how could I lie to you? It's true."

Then, she bent down to help Emily up.

As Emily stood up, she caught a glimpse of the kiss mark on Daphne's neck. Her pupils trembled slightly, and she almost lost her balance.

"Miss Garcia, are you okay?" Daphne asked with concern.

Emily struggled to maintain her expression. With Daphne's help, she sat on the sofa and shook her head. "I'm fine, thank you, Ms. Sullivan, for comforting me."

She tightly pinched her palm, unfazed by the spreading pain, and even increased the pressure slightly.

Emily took a deep breath, suppressing all her emotions. She pretended to ask casually, "By the way, Ms. Sullivan, do you have a partner?"

Daphne was caught off guard by Emily's question. As she turned, she happened to see the reflection on the wall and noticed the kiss mark on her neck.

At that moment, she suddenly realized why Emily was asking. She adjusted her collar. "Yes, I do. Why?"

Emily stood up, walked over to Daphne, and led her to the sofa. They both sat down.

"Oh, I thought Ms. Sullivan didn't have a partner. Can I join you for a meal? After all, you've been taking care of Lewis for so many years, and I want to see if your partner is reliable." As she asked, her hand trembled.

Although her words seemed to be for Daphne's sake, Daphne could still sense an ulterior motive.

Was Emily suspecting something?

Daphne furrowed her brows slightly, unsure how to respond, and found herself in a dilemma.

Emily sneered inwardly. She held Daphne's hand and asked, "Why do you seem a bit troubled? Did you break up with your partner?"Upon hearing this, Daphne's eyes flickered, and she responded, "Yeah, we broke up." Her tone carried a hint of sadness, as if she were genuinely upset about the breakup.

Emily smiled gently at Daphne. "Ms. Sullivan, don't be sad. There's a saying, 'Out with the old, in with the new.' You'll meet someone better soon."

Emily's words seemed sincere, as if she was genuinely comforting her, but they sounded harsh.

After a moment, Emily suggested, "I checked the clock on the wall. It's two hours until you get off work. How about we go shopping and have dinner after work?" Her eyes were filled with anticipation.

Daphne's refusal got stuck in her throat. However, she gave a faint smile, neither agreeing nor refusing.

Seeing this, Emily assumed Daphne agreed. She pulled Daphne up and pushed her forward. "Hurry up and get back to work. I'll wait here."

As time passed, Emily frequently checked the time. When it was time to leave, she stood up immediately.

She quickly walked over to Daphne, linking her arm with hers. "It's time to get off work. Let's go!"

Seeing Daphne remain silent, Emily pouted. "Ms. Sullivan, are you not okay with this?"

Daphne's thoughts gradually returned. She shook her head. "Miss Garcia, you're overthinking. I'm not unwilling."

Emily's eyes lit up with a smile. She linked her arm with Daphne's and walked to the door, her voice gentle. "That's good. I thought you weren't okay with it."

With her arm linked with Emily's, Daphne couldn't leave even if she wanted to. She couldn't help but wonder what Emily was up to.

Her eyelid twitched inexplicably, and the unease in her heart grew.

Before they knew it, they had reached the ground floor of the company.

"By the way, Ms. Sullivan, you  broke up, right?" Emily turned to face Daphne.

"Yeah, what's wrong?" Daphne replied.

"Well, I know a guy who I think would be a good match for you. You two should get to know each other!" As soon as she finished speaking, a low-key yet luxurious black car appeared in front of them.

Daphne wanted to refuse, but before she could say anything, Emily pushed her into the car. They sat side by side in the back seat. Emily smiled, "Ms. Sullivan, once you see him, you'll definitely be attracted to him!"

On the way, Emily kept introducing the person she mentioned. Daphne learned that his name was Miguel Harvey, a wealthy heir. As for his character, she couldn't be sure yet. Well, since she was already here, she decided to go with the flow.

The car slowly stopped at the hotel entrance. The driver reminded them, "Miss Garcia, we've arrived."

Emily then pulled Daphne out of the car, and they entered a private room together.

As the door to the private room opened, a man in casual attire came into Daphne's view. He exuded an air of arrogance and carefree abandon, but Daphne felt something was off, as if he were pretending.

Miguel's eyes flashed with amazement when he saw Daphne. He was the first to speak. "This must be the Ms. Sullivan that Emily mentioned?"

Out of politeness, Daphne nodded slightly and greeted him. "Hello."

At this moment, Emily smiled and said, "My job here is done. You two get along now. I'll be off."
