Chapter 3

The World Of Dreams

Scarlett's POV

I did not know how long I was unconscious, but when I woke up, it was completely dark. I managed to stand up and shivering violently, I opened the door and staggered inside. Luckily for me, I was able to locate the switch and turn on the light.

Though the Hidden Moon Pack was closed from the more civilized human world, it was also civilized in its own way but it still follows the ancient laws and regulations of our wolf ancestors and we still serve the moon goddess.

I pulled up my shirt and went to the mirror so as to see the scars made by the cane and clean it but to my utmost surprise, it was all healed. There was not a single scratch or scar on my back.

I wondered why it was like that but could not find any concrete logic or explanation for it. Though werewolves have the ability to heal themselves when wounded, it was not supposed to happen to me because I have not yet shifted.

I rested my head on my hands, trying to make sense of what was happening. After thinking for some minutes and still had no lead, I stood up as my stomach rumbled to remind me that It was empty.

I searched around and luckily for me, I found some fruits, dried fish and some bread. I quickly gulped down the food and drank water to flush them down. I didn't realize that I was that hungry. After a while, I did justice to the fruits and when I was done eating everything, I felt satisfied.

I went to the bathroom and took my bath. When I was done, I went to the mirror to look at myself one more time.

"Scarlett....." I heard someone called my name in a whisper.

I quickly turned but I did not see anyone. I opened my door and checked outside but I still found no one there.

'Maybe I was hallucinating because of the harsh treatments I was subjected to today.' I said to myself as I shook my head to clear it.

'You will get through this Scarlett, you will.' I said to myself as I lay on my bed and drifted to sleep.

In the still of the darkness that night brings, I drifted into the world of dreams. It was a refreshing and beautiful dream. A dream that looked so different from the harsh reality of my life in the real world. In the dream I saw myself shifting. My bones cracking, my senses heightened and my sight enhanced. My wolf was beautiful, a silver wolf, it was wild and it had speed.

It was a constant dream that has always plagued my sleep since the first time I tried to shift and failed.

As always when morning came, I always found myself still in my wolfless form. My true reality is a stark contrast to the dream I always had. The disappointment most times was hard to bear and I tried hard not to cry.

Sleep, which used to be my source of comfort and means of escape from my harsh reality, became a cruel reminder of my life situation as the unending dreams became a constant factor in my life, showing me what I could have had, what could have been but was not. So now, I dread the time for sleep because the dream was always ready to welcome me.

I woke up to the banging noise I heard on my door. It was weird to have someone knock on my door as I was at the far end of the community and people always try to avoid my house.

While my parents were still alive, the people of the Hidden Moon Pack could not do anything to me. Though my parents were Omegas, but they were treated with a little respect and among my family members, my father was like the head of the family and so I was spared the backlash from the people and no one dared to talk about my wolfless situation in public and if it was ever spoken of, it was done in silence and whispers.

But the moment my parents were murdered, everything changed. The people began to show their true nature. I was first driven out of my family house and I was forced to go live in this present house. This house was the one my family used as a store room to store junks they might not use again or they are planning to use later.

I cried the first few nights I spent there in isolation but I quickly came to terms with my situation and toughened myself up. I came to understand that crying will not stop or change the situation. What has happened has happened and there is nothing I can do about it other than to accept my fate and look for a way to make the best of my circumstances.

As time went on, I tried to shift many times especially during the full moon where the wolf spirit was extra powerful but still, it was unsuccessful. With time, I came to accept my wolfless situation and also get used to the gradual and subtle distances from the pack members.

They found my situation odd because first I was wolfless and then secondly, my parents were murdered. They began to see me as a bad omen and gradually distanced themselves from me while some of them were bold enough to throw shades at me.

I opened the door and saw one of the Omegas who also works in the kitchen with me. She looked at me in disgust.

"Are you that deaf that you did not hear me knocking?" She asked angrily.

"I'm sorry, I was deep asleep." I tried explaining.

"Keep your useless apologies and excuses to yourself, I don't need it." She snapped.

"I was sent here to give you a very important instruction." She said,

"And what is that?" I asked curiously.

"You are to report to the Alpha's Palace immediately, the Alpha demands your presence." She said authoritatively and walked

out leaving me in deep fear.

I knew it could be the end.
