Chapter 6
"Mr. Davis, that won't be necessary. We've got a dedicated team on this project, and we ensure that no mistakes will be made." Stanley held a champagne glass in one hand, the other casually tucked in his pocket. He looked friendly enough, but there was this noble and distant vibe about him.
Roger didn't even get a chance to introduce his daughter before Stanley found an excuse to slip away.
He jogged over to Diana. "If you're tired, there's a lounge upstairs. I can have someone show you the way."
Diana glanced up at him, "No need to bother anyone. I'll just wander around."
But all the other ladies were in groups, making her look particularly lonely.
Seeing he wasn't leaving, Diana decided to start a conversation, "Stanley, I still don't know what you do for a living."
Stanley raised an eyebrow, "Worried I'll sell you off? I'll have Barry send you my info."
Getting to know him wasn't something that could be summed up in a few sentences.
Diana couldn't help but laugh, "You're quite the serious one."
Honestly, one reason she agreed to be Stanley's girlfriend was to make Alex furious.
Why could he get to have multiple lovers? If their marriage couldn't work and they couldn't get a divorce, then let it be an open marriage!
"I need to use the restroom." Diana left.
Meanwhile, a crowd of people surrounded Stanley again.
After dealing with them, he realized Diana had been gone for a while.
He checked his watch and headed to the restroom to find her.
At the corner of the stairs, a woman suddenly appeared, her cheeks flushed and her hair slightly messy. "Excuse me, sir, I'm drunk. Could you please take me to my room?"
As she spoke, the woman leaned towards Stanley.
Diana had just come out of the restroom and saw this scene.
Stanley stood there, hands in his pockets, not supporting the woman leaning towards him. He even frowned at the overwhelming scent of her perfume.
Seeing this, the woman decided to go all out and wrapped her arms around his neck.
Stanley slowly reached out and pulled the woman away. "No."
Just as he was about to leave, he saw Diana standing in front of him.
She smiled charmingly, stepping closer to Stanley, "I was only gone for a moment, and you're already in a hurry?"
As she spoke, Diana's eyes glanced at the woman pretending to be drunk.
"Good thing I saw it was her who leaned on you. How would you explain it to me otherwise?" She reached out a finger and gently poked Stanley's chest.
The soft touch intrigued Stanley.
Stanley raised an eyebrow, just looking at her without speaking.
Diana's smile stiffened.
Stanley was really not cooperating, leaving her to perform alone!
She had to reach out and straighten Stanley's collar, "Look at you, your clothes are dirty. If another woman messes you up like this again , I won't want you anymore."
Her voice was soft, but all three of them could hear it clearly.
Her words sounded like a mix of complaint and coquettishness.
If Stanley didn't know she was acting, he might have been charmed by her.
The woman who had thrown herself at him was left standing awkwardly, unsure whether to continue pretending to be drunk or to leave, her face pale with embarrassment and anger.
She had her agent find out that Stanley from the Visconti family had returned to the country for three months without any lovers around him. How did an official girlfriend suddenly appear?
And their words and actions suggested they had a very good relationship.
Stanley grabbed Diana's restless hand and held it tightly in his palm. "I'll remember that."
He immediately took off his suit jacket and tossed it into a nearby trash can.
As Stanley walked away with his arm around Diana's waist, the woman by the wall was still in shock.
When she finally snapped out of it, she quickly took out her phone and snapped a photo of their backs.
Then she called her agent, "What were you thinking? Stanley has a girlfriend! If you want me to throw myself at him, at least pick the right time and place!"
She was a somewhat famous actress, not a big name, but if Diana had recognized her and bad-mouthed her to Stanley, how could she survive?
The photo spread quickly.
Within two hours, it had reached a distant place.
Alicia Garcia, furious, tore off the face mask she was wearing, "You said Stanley left with her in his arms?"
Alicia's delicate face twisted with disbelief.
Tonight's actress was someone she had arranged to reveal Stanley's schedule to. She wanted to see how he would react to a woman seducing him.
She just wanted to test if Stanley would be tempted by these women.
She had done this more than once and had verified countless times that Stanley had no lovers around him.
They were childhood friends who grew up together. What woman could compare to that bond?
But tonight...
Alicia initially didn't believe it. There were always rumors.
But she felt a deep unease.
She immediately called her mother, "Mom, I want to go back home!"
Meanwhile, Diana and Stanley walked away, not realizing she was still affectionately holding onto Stanley's arm.
She hadn't felt this relaxed in a long time, and she was very happy. "So, how was my acting? If I didn't study medicine, I could have a talent for the entertainment industry." Diana joked, shaking Stanley's arm.
Stanley looked at her and spoke softly, "Pretty good."
But it wasn't good at all that he almost couldn't tell if the affection was real or fake.
Diana saw Barry had already opened the car door and was waiting. She instinctively withdrew her hand and walked ahead, leaving Stanley feeling somewhat lost and forlorn with his now empty palm. In the car, Diana suddenly felt down.
When she was fully occupied, she seemed to forget Alex's harassment and her mother's serious illness. But when she was idle, she still had to face reality.
"Your mother will be transferred to a special care ward tomorrow, with a professional medical team and 24-hour security." Stanley was handling documents on his tablet, not looking up as he spoke.
Diana was initially surprised, "Really?"
Then she worried, "Will there be any issues? Alex has some money and power in Imperial City, and he has informants in the hospital. I'm afraid it won't be easy to transfer my mother."
Stanley paused, looked up at Diana, his eyes firm and serious, "Don't worry, I promised you, and I'll make it happen."
Diana's previously restless heart instantly calmed down.
She didn't know Stanley's background, but there was a magnetic pull that made her feel inexplicably at ease.
"Thank you, but the special care ward is very expensive. I don't have that much money." Diana wasn't afraid of him laughing at her. Despite being Alex's wife, she couldn't spend a penny of his money.
In this marriage, she was like a puppet.
On good days, Alex would buy her some jewelry to amuse her. While on bad days, he would lock her up.
She had no social life, no friends or assets.
The only place she could fully focus on herself was the operating room.
Stanley was silent for a few seconds, his expression visibly cold, "Diana, we've made love twice. I'm literally your man."
Diana's eyes brightened as she looked at him, frowning slightly.
