Chapter 7

She wasn't a conservative woman, but was it necessary to be so blunt about that things?

Especially with Barry sitting right in front! The next second, Barry instinctively raised the partition.

"What do you mean?" Diana asked.

"I mean, don't put pressure on yourself. I'm here for you." Stanley replied.

Diana opened her mouth but words failed her.

The intern nurse at the hospital joked that if you could have sex with a handsome and sexually capable man, it was a win - even happier than payday.

By that logic, she not only won but also got extra benefits.

Back at the hotel, Diana couldn't help but ask, "When are we going back to Imperial City?"

She had passed out from being choked by Alex, and her leader thought she was overworked and kindly gave her half a month off, but she was still worried about her mother.

"The day after tomorrow. We have an auction to attend tomorrow." Stanley answered.

After Stanley took a shower at the hotel, he went to the study for an online meeting, leaving Diana alone in the bedroom.

She had slept a lot during the day, so she wasn't sleepy now.

She held her phone and browsed the news for a while. Seven out of ten articles were scandal news about Alex.

The media now portrayed her as a woman left alone in an empty house.

Some small media outlets, to gain traffic, fabricated stories about her being bullied by her mother-in-law every day, her husband being abusive, and her inability to have children.

Diana felt bored and threw her phone aside to take a shower.

When she came out of the bathroom, Stanley was already lying on the bed.

Diana was silent, feeling awkward.

Although the hotel suite was large, it had only one bedroom and one bed.

Diana slowly took out a pillow from the cabinet and asked, "Is there a blanket here? I feel chilly at night."

Stanley was puzzled.

Diana pointed to the sofa, "I'm small, I can sleep on the sofa."

Stanley looked at her with a sullen face.

The room suddenly became quiet, with a bit of awkwardness.

To ease the awkwardness, Diana said softly, "It's not appropriate for us to sleep in the same bed, and I'm shy."

Stanley's gaze at her became more scrutinizing.

She seemed sincere and indifferent.

But he couldn't see her being shy.

Stanley's eyes darkened a bit, "Shy? I remember you weren't so shy in my arms."

Diana's smile froze.

It took her a moment to react, and when she realized what he meant, her neck and ears turned red.

After a long time, she whispered, "You..." For a while, she couldn't say anything.

"Don't talk nonsense!" Diana retorted like a child unwilling to lose.

Stanley didn't continue to embarrass her and gently patted the bed beside him, "Come here."

Then he got out of bed, called the front desk, and booked another room next door.

Before going to sleep, Stanley reminded himself to give her more time to accept him.

He had entered Diana's life so forcefully, and she hadn't driven him away, which was already very respectful of him.

Diana stayed up later.

When she woke up the next day, the dining table was already filled with a variety of dishes.

After she finished washing up and went out, Stanley was sitting at the dining table, taking a call. He listened attentively, occasionally giving brief instructions.

Stanley signaled her to eat with his eyes.

Diana was very thin and had a poor appetite.

Even though it was all her favorite food, she couldn't eat much.

Just as she was feeling bored, her phone rang. She ran to the bedroom to answer it. It was Zoey Lopez, the intern doctor she was mentoring.

Zoey asked how she was recovering and if she was feeling better.

Diana said she was fine.

At least she didn't have to worry every day that Alex would suddenly go crazy and come after her.

"Diana, that's good." Zoey's tone was a bit unnatural.

After repeated questioning, Zoey hesitantly said, "Since you took leave, Alex has come to the hospital three times looking for you. When he couldn't find you, he smashed things and even hit a female nurse. The hospital is funded by the Smith family, and Mr. Brown didn't dare to say anything."

Diana bit her lip, "He's just a madman! Don't pay attention to him."

Even though she said that, Diana knew that the hospital staff didn't dare to offend Alex.

If the Smith family couldn't find her, it would eventually cause a huge commotion.

"I'll call Mr. Brown to explain the situation. I'm really sorry for causing you trouble." Diana said.

"Diana, you're being too formal. I called not to add to your stress but to tell you not to come back to the hospital for now." Zoey sighed. She used to dream of becoming a wealthy wife and escaping the hard life of working endless overtime, but seeing Diana like this, she realized that being a wealthy wife wasn't easy either.

Diana, besides her high-pressure job, had to learn to ignore things outside of work.

Otherwise, the gossip among the hospital staff would drive her crazy.

It seemed that terms like abandoned wife and infidelity were always associated with her.

But the group of intern doctors knew that Diana was righteous, kind, considerate of her subordinates, and highly skilled—a rare gem.

She just married the wrong person.

After hanging up the phone, Diana was also angry.

She had gone far away but was still affected by Alex. She didn't know when this kind of life would end.

Back at the dining table, she thought about it, getting even angrier. She cut the toast with increasing force.

Stanley looked at her and frowned, "You don't like this food? I'll have them change it."

"What?" Diana's expression was awkward. "No, it's not about the food. Sorry, I'm full." She put down her utensils and went to the bedroom.

Not long after, Barry had the hotel staff bring several sets of clothes. Probably afraid of not finding clothes Diana liked, he bought many styles, from vacation to casual to socialite.

Diana chose a green strap dress, casually threw on a knitted cardigan, and stood in front of the mirror trying on hats.

"Going out?" Stanley looked up from a pile of documents.

"I want to take a walk and go shopping." Diana said. The weather in Harmony City was great, even the air was fresh.

When she was in Imperial City, she didn't dare to go out much, fearing she would run into those playboys who would inevitably mock and ridicule her.

Stanley was a bit worried, "I'll go with you."

"No need to trouble you. I want to be alone." She could see that Stanley was very busy with work.

Stanley didn't say much more, but after she left, he had bodyguards follow her secretly.

Diana first wandered around a nearby resort, bought gifts for her colleagues and her mother, and was about to pay with her phone when Alex called.

Diana hung up without hesitation.

He persistently called again, so she simply blocked Alex.

She immediately felt much better but lost interest in shopping and went back to the hotel.

The whole afternoon, Diana stayed on the sofa watching TV, while Stanley was in the study next door, constantly in video meetings.

When she was getting drowsy, Stanley called her, "Let's go. I'll take you to the auction."

Diana lifted her eyelids, "But I don't have a dress to wear."

The dress she wore to the banquet yesterday hadn't been dry-cleaned yet.

"Come here." Stanley took her to the bedroom.

Several dresses were already hanging on the rack, with various shoes and jewelry beside them.
