Chapter 11 Ungrateful
"Can't we arrange for a better living environment?" Mia asked persistently.
"This is already one of the better houses in the village, with complete facilities, and it's relatively close to the village entrance, making it convenient for transportation to the county for shopping," the program team explained. With that said, Mia had no choice but to accept.
Aurora, on the other hand, had no problem with the living conditions. When she lived in the mountains before, the conditions were similar.
At this moment, the viewers in the live broadcast room began to speculate on how the rooms would be allocated. Some fans who had stayed in farmhouses even guessed who would get the room next to the pigsty.
After all, the window of that room faced the pigsty, and staying there for a few days meant smelling the pigsty for a few days.
"Alright, everyone, start choosing your rooms. Once the rooms are allocated, we'll inform you of the next step," the program staff said, adopting a wait-and-see attitude to see how everyone would allocate the rooms.
"I think we should let the ladies choose first. We men can stay in the west wing, and the ladies can stay in the east wing, where the environment is slightly better," Finn suggested as everyone was about to choose their rooms.
"Who are you to make decisions for me?" Leonard immediately questioned upon hearing Finn's suggestion.
He had been persuaded by his agent to join this program, and the west wing was closer to the pigsty, with its light blocked by the neighboring house, making it the worst room. Why should he suffer?
"Leonard, Finn is just being considerate of the female guests. He's always been very gentlemanly. Don't be harsh on him," Bianca said, not wanting to stay in the west wing. She had already smelled a foul odor before even entering the room. Staying there for a week would be unbearable.
"Oh, you know everything, don't you? If you care so much about Finn, why don't you stay in the worst room?" Leonard retorted sarcastically, showing no respect for Bianca.
Bianca paused and then softly said, "I don't want Finn to sacrifice for me. If he gets the worst room, I'm willing to switch with him."
Bianca's words immediately won her a wave of audience support.
"Bianca is so kind, and Finn is very gentlemanly. What a loving sibling pair."
"My sibling relationship is nothing like this. My brother and I are like enemies, nothing like Finn."
"Such a warm-hearted sister. I'm officially jealous. Leonard, stop complaining."
Aurora, who had been silent, suddenly spoke up, "The program team said we could choose freely, so please don't make decisions for me, OK?"
Finn, already annoyed by Aurora's indifference towards him, became even more sullen upon hearing this.
Although the conditions in the east wing were slightly better, Aurora knew from watching the show in her previous life that the two rooms at the far east of the east wing were connected to the septic tank, and the drainage ditch was right next to the house, making it damp and sometimes infested with bugs. They were not the best rooms.
The best room was actually the one in the east of the west wing, with the best lighting and location.
If she didn't know this, she might have chosen one of the two rooms in the east wing. But since she knew, she wouldn't choose them.
Bianca didn't expect Aurora to outright reject Finn's suggestion. She had been waiting for an opportunity to see Aurora make a fool of herself.
"Aurora, Finn is just being considerate of us girls. Even if you don't appreciate it, you don't have to be so harsh on him. He's just being kind."
"I know you don't like Finn, but there's no need to target him like this," Bianca said sincerely, causing the fans to start discussing.
"Exactly, Aurora is just being petty and deliberately causing trouble for Finn."
"Bianca is Finn's sister. Aurora is just jealous. They're siblings."
"Aurora just can't stand seeing others happy. If she can't have it, she wants to ruin it. Ridiculous."
"Kind? I never thought this was kindness. Everyone is equal. Why should the men stay in the worst rooms just because they're men? This isn't kindness; it's creating conflict," Aurora said, looking at Bianca's hypocritical face with a cold smile.
"We're all strangers here. It's a favor to let someone have a room, but it's not an obligation. You two are siblings, but we have no relation to you. Why should we listen to you?"
"Besides, if we let you have the rooms now, what's next? Are we supposed to help with the chores too?"
"The program team said we're here to experience life, so we should be self-reliant and self-sufficient. Don't start saying that women shouldn't do this or that. It's confusing."
Aurora's words left Bianca speechless.
"Exactly, everyone should rely on their own abilities. I don't owe you anything, so why should I always put you first? If you're sick, go see a doctor," Leonard said, clapping in agreement with Aurora.
Andrew, who had been very low-key, also nodded in agreement with Aurora. He didn't support Finn's seemingly responsible behavior either, as agreeing would mean he had to suffer too.
"So, you think everyone should be cold and calculating?" Finn asked, frowning.
"Is that what I said?" Aurora looked at him as if he were an idiot.
"You didn't say it outright, but that's what you meant," Finn said angrily. She didn't appreciate his consideration and even criticized him. She was ungrateful.
"I'm just saying there's no need to compromise and endure. Men and women are equal. We're all strangers here. Helping each other is great, but there's nothing wrong with not owing each other anything. It's not about being calculating," Aurora said, glancing at Bianca.
"You want to get benefits for your sister, and there's nothing wrong with that. But you shouldn't sacrifice others' interests under the guise of being considerate."
Finn was left speechless. He did want Bianca to have the best room, but he had no reason to make others give it up. He thought this plan would work, and no one would make him stay in the worst room.
Moreover, this would earn him some audience goodwill. It was a win-win.
But he didn't expect Aurora to expose his little scheme in public.
