CHAPTER FOUR - A WHOLE NEW WORLD

MONA'S POV

Luka, the beautiful guy from yesterday, was standing in front of me with an annoyed look on his face.

“What the hell are you doing?” the blonde girl asked him, clearly irritated at not being able to pull her hand away from his grasp.

“I should be asking you that question,” Luka replied as he flung her hand away, making her lose her balance and fall to the ground.

“Is this what you do?” Luka asked her, looking down at her angry and confused face. “You intimidate new girls?”

“How is that any of your business?” she asked angrily, as she got back on her feet.

“It is my business because she is!!” Luka shouted at her shocked face.

I stood there frozen, not knowing what to say as I processed what was happening.

Did he just call me his business?

I looked around the hallway to find several students staring at us with surprised expressions.

Clearly they heard him as well.

“You mess with her again, you mess with me!!” Luka yelled, then he turned over to me and grabbed my wrist.

Before I could say a word, he pulled me out of the locker hallway, past all the students who were looking at us.

He didn't stop until we had gotten far enough from the crowd and then I yanked my hand away from his.

“What the hell was that?” I asked him, folding my arms as I looked up at him. His blonde hair fell to his shoulders and the sunlight reflected in his clear blue eyes as he looked down at me.

God, he was beautiful

Shit, I'm supposed to be angry right now

“What do you mean? I was defending you,” he replied and I scoffed.

“You call that defense, you basically just stamped your seal on me and then pulled me out of there.”

“Yeah it was the best way to make sure no one else in this school bothers you,” he said, like he had done nothing wrong.

“Look, I don't understand the dynamics of this school yet, but whatever you just did back there, don't do it again. I guess maybe you feel responsible for me because of the mate thing my father spoke about, but I want to assure you that I can handle myself. I know how to stand up to bullies,” I said to him matter of factly.

“Is that so? Because back there it looked like—”

“I don't care what it looked like, just stay out of my business,” I yelled at him and he smiled, raising his hands up in surrender.

“Whatever you say Mona,” he replied to me with a smirk, revealing his perfect teeth.

Could he get any more attractive?

“Now thanks to your big stunt, I have to go back and get my books,” I grimaced in annoyance, turning to leave.

“See you around Mona,” he yelled after me as I walked away.

“So we have a new student with us,” my teacher announced as I stood by the door in front of the class.

“Her name is Mona Togarde, come over and introduce yourself Mona,” he said, gesturing to me.

Sighing deeply to fight the anxiety in my chest, I walked over and kept my head down as I introduced myself.

“So what caste do you belong to?” One of my new classmates asked.

What the hell is a caste?

Could this new place get any weirder?

“Yeah, and have you gotten your wolf yet?” Another classmate asked.

“That's enough guys, you can ask those questions in your personal time, for now it's time for class. Mona, take your seat at the back,” the teacher instructed and I nodded at him and walked over briskly.

Classes went by in a blur, I was so fascinated by everything. Barely a week ago, school was still a dream for me and now I was here. I made a mental note not to ever take this moment for granted.

As the bell rang for lunch, I carried my books and headed back to my locker again.

I had just finished putting in my books when I turned to find a girl staring at me.

“Am I blocking your locker?” I asked her, wondering if the same thing was going to happen to me twice today.

“No…I wanted to say hi, but I got a bit shy,” she replied pleasantly. “My name is Vera, I'm one of your new classmates,” she said, stretching out her hand to me. She had short brown hair and matching brown eyes that reminded me of honey, with small freckles on her cheeks.

Out of everyone I had met since I came to this school, she seemed the most friendly.

I cautiously shook her hand and she smiled warmly at me.

“Are you heading to the cafeteria?” she asked, linking her hand with mine.

“Um… yeah,” I replied awkwardly, not sure whether to tell her that she was invading my personal space.

“Cool, I'm sure you don't know where it is, let me take you there,” she said, almost pulling me with her.

Vera and I grabbed our lunch meals and sat on an unoccupied table together.

“You know, I have never seen you in the pack before and I like to think that I know everyone, so where did you come from?” she asked me.

What exactly was I supposed to say? That I was the Alpha's daughter? That I was still in New York last week, now I had no idea what this place was called?

“I just moved here to stay with my father,” I said to her, stuffing my face before she could ask me another question.

“Wow, from where?” she asked, clearly not getting the hint.

I looked up ahead as I saw the blonde girl from earlier walk into the cafeteria with a group of girls.

She gave me a cold glare that sent chills down my spine, which was weird because why was I suddenly scared of her?

“That is Sierra, her family is pretty prestigious in the pack so they treat people like shit,” Vera explained, as she looked in the direction I was facing.

I watched as a short dark haired girl walked past Sierra, holding up her lunch tray. Sierra made the poor girl trip and fall face first to the floor.

“Has she always been that nasty?” I asked Vera as we watched Sierra and her friends laugh at the girl who scrambled up to her feet and ran out of the cafeteria crying.

“Don't feel bad for that girl,” Vera said, her voice sounding cold all of a sudden. “She is an Omega, she is meant to be treated like crap.”

I turned to Vera in surprise, “are you actually serious?”

“Yeah,” she shrugged nonchalantly. “It's just the way things are.”

How could she say that?

No human being deserved to be bullied like that.

But then again these people were not humans

The cafeteria door opened again and this time Luka walked in.

Our eyes met for a split second, before he turned and headed in another direction.

“And yeah, I was going to ask you, what is between you and Luka?” Vera asked and I turned back to face her.

“What?”

She was so nosy

“Oh don't play dumb,” she said, winking at me. “You said you are new to the pack that means that Luka must know you for him to want to protect you from Sierra like that.”

“I don't know what you are talking about,” I said, focusing on my meal.

“You don't have to lie to me, I—” Vera's words broke off as the door to the Cafeteria flung open and about six guys walked in at the same time.

From the hushed silence that fell around and the way the guys were dressed, they looked like the bad boys of the school.

“Who are those?” I whispered to Vera, whose eyes were watching as the boys strolled in.

“Have you heard of Aster Stone?” she whispered back.

Wasn't that the second guy my father wanted me to choose from?

“These boys are his followers,” she said and we watched as they walked further and further into the Cafeteria.

“Wait, what do you mean by—” my question trailed off as the boys stopped right in front of my table.

They gradually made a small opening into two lines of three and standing in the middle of them was a guy that looked like the human representation of sin.

“You must be Mona,” he said and I stayed silent, with my eyes widened, unable to believe that he was talking to me.

“I am sure you have heard of me by now,” he said with a relaxed look on his gorgeous face. “I am Aster Stone.”
