Chapter 3
Aeson's POV
I studied her closely, not taking my eyes off her, as I could feel the anxiety oozing off me. I could smell fear, fear that resulted as a result of the Alpha aura I was giving out. I wanted to make sure that whoever could take the job was not only a strong person but also had a strong wolf.
I didn't need humans in this company anymore. Fuck them. They were so weak, and we already had a bunch of them. She must have a wolf, and that was what I was trying to confirm.
I took the opportunity to focus on her slightly bluish-gray eyes, which complemented her caramel hair, with some face-framing layers in front of her face.
My wolf, Tyson, could sense something. It was a vibe that was very unusual, and Tyson wanted to fight for control, but I didn't want to let him out. I rather just watch as things go on. I wanted to dominate and demystify the aura surrounding her. It wasn't that she was strange, or maybe it was, but I knew exactly why my wolf was acting the way it did.
“MATE! SHE'S MINE!” He growled from inside of me.
I tried hard not to say anything, trying to stay calm, and not do things strangely.
“Answer me. What pack are you from?” I asked for a second time, fixating on her. I could detect her weird movement as if she was disturbed by the question. I suspected something peculiar, and I wanted to be sure about it.
“Eh… I come from a place not too far away,” she uttered, trying hard not to stutter. I knew she didn't want to answer the question. That means there was something wrong.
“I don't care if your house is far or near,” I said, trying to sound cold. I didn't know why, but I couldn't pull it off well. “I need to know the name of the pack you're from.”
“I am not from any pack,” she said.
“What?” I asked, cocking a brow. “You don't belong to a pack?”
“Yes, sir,” she said.
“Alpha,” I corrected.
“Y- yes Alpha,” she said in a shaky tone.
I couldn't tell if she was lying. I suspected that she had a wolf, as I could smell wolf's blood, but it was a signal that shortened with time, and I had to use exceptional senses to capture the mystic scent, but it was a weak scent, and so it could be that she was human.
I looked at Jace. He didn't understand what was going on, but I suspected that he was also unsure about her. He looked at me with an intensely bizarre expression written on his face.
“Okay,” I said, breaking the silence that existed for some seconds. I looked downward to see the documents on my desk. No way I had the time to check all that.
You know what? Fuck it, I thought.
“We will get back to you,” I told her.
She raised her head immediately, her eyes lighting up. I didn't know what it meant, but it seemed like she had doubts she would get it. She nodded.
“You can take this with you,” I said, after arranging the documents and putting them back in the file.
“Thanks,” she said. “I hope for positive feedback.”
She stood up, and as if like a wave, her scent just hit me one more time. A wolf scent with a mix of cologne wasn't what I was expecting, but it seemed like that was what it was.
I watched as she left my office, staring at her from my seat. I watched as her body moved gently, her heels clanking the floor, and her beautiful hair moving elegantly. To be honest, it was kind of protecting her ass to not be seen.
There was no way I was going to let a 22-year-old elegant and mysterious hourglass-figured lady slip out of my hands. Goodness knew why these freaking bad thoughts were flooding my mind.
Immediately after she left, Jace walked to me.
“What’s wrong, Alpha? I noticed that you were acting strangely when she was in here some moment ago,” he asked. I knew he was suspicious of me, knowing the way he kept observing me moments ago, and then, flinging his gaze somewhere else whenever I looked at him.
“Tyson wanted to take dominance,” I told him. I looked up and saw his expression. He didn't seem to understand. “Don't you get it?”
“Aren't you going to claim her immediately? I knew exactly when I saw that you were struggling that it would be Tyson trying to lurch forward and take control,” he said, with a knowing look.
She was my mate! I finally found my mate after countless Blood Moon attendances.
“Yes, Jace. She is my mate, but something is wrong. I am not so sure about her identity. I don't know if she has a wolf, or if she is even human. I wouldn't want a human for a mate,” I told him.
“So, what do you want to do?” He asked.
“Go quickly, Jace. Go and tail her. Make sure to find out where she lives, and what pack she is from. I suspect that she is lying to me,” I commanded.
“Okay, Alpha,” he said, turning around to leave the office, when suddenly, Caiden appeared barging into the office.
He seemed to be breathing heavily as if he had sprinted the radius of the world, and for the first time, had a serious look on his face. I wonder what called for it.
“Alpha Caiden…” Jace muttered in surprise.
“You realize this is an office, right?” I asked him.
“Fuck that, Aeson. I am here for something else,” he said. Very typical of him to say that. He was never ethical, and the only things he cared about were women, and being a sleazy playboy of an Alpha.
He was an Alpha friend and was a co-owner of the company together with me, and Hades, but he played a lot. I wondered how he even assumed Alpha's position.
“I'll let it slide this time. Why are you here?” I asked with a serious tone. The only way to tame him was to act as if I was not ready for his games, and it worked most of the time.
“I am looking for someone. Have you seen the person?” He asked.
I wondered if he had brains.
“I haven't seen the person,” I replied dryly.
“How can you even know the person I am looking for when I haven't described them to you?”
“Exactly the question you need to ask yourself, Caiden. I don't know who you're talking about, so leave,” I requested.
He wasn't ready to back down. I wasn't sure, but it seemed like this was going to be one of the tantrums he always pulled off, and I wasn't prepared for it.
He straightened up and fixed his gaze on me. I didn't know what he was doing, but I was surprised I was still looking at this sucker in the eye.
“It's a woman,” he said. “I saw her in the elevator, and I really wanted to find her. I was too stunned for some reason that I didn't even realize when she left me,” he said.
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“Well, I tried searching for her, but I couldn't find her,” he said, wearing an awful look.
“And what does that have to do with me?”
“I was told that she came to your office. According to who told me that, she was here for an interview,” he said.
My eyes widened, and my jaw dropped. Serena? Why was he looking for my mate? I looked at Jace, and he was surprised too.
Why the hell did Caiden want to see her? Was something wrong?
“Is something wrong?” I asked him.
“No. It's just that… I need to find that lady,” he said.
“Okay. Go find her then, because she clearly isn't here,” I replied, trying not to look surprised.
“Are you sure?” He asked, with a suspecting look on his face. I was beginning to get pissed off, unsure, and shocked at the same time. I felt like something was wrong.
“Do you think I'm hiding her with me?”
“Well, maybe you have seen her. She is light-skinned…” he said, with a weird voice.
“So?”
“A bit of caramel highlights on her hair…” He began walking slowly towards me, with his eyes still fixated on me as if he was suspecting.
“And?”
“Gray eyes…”
“Okay?”
“Nice body…”
“So what?”
“Elegant looking…” He said, sleazily.
“Look, Caiden, I don't have the time for this. I haven't seen anyone like that. I don't care about what her skin, eyes, body, or whatever looks like. Fuck off,” I rebuked.
“Okay, okay. I'll take that. I'm still suspecting you, though. It seems like you don't want me to chase the woman of my dreams,” he said.
I furrowed my brows in shock. What did he just say?!
“I'll leave if you don't want that,” he said, turning around, and leaving the office.
“What the hell was that? Woman of his dreams?”
“Aeson, what's going on with Alpha Caiden? Why is it looking for her? She is your mate,” Jace said.
“I think he's up to something dangerous. You can't trust that sucker. Go, make sure you find that girl. It's been about two minutes, and she might be about to leave the building. Make sure to find her before he does!” I commanded.
Jace nodded and ran out of the office. I was getting terrified. Why the hell did Caiden, as much of a womanizer as he is, want to see my mate?
No way. She's mine, and no one else's!
