Chapter 2

"Mr. Hamilton, Mrs. Hamilton," Lila called respectfully from outside.

Even though she hadn't heard any response from Edward this month, but rules were unbreakable.

After a while, the door opened.

Victoria, still sleepy, recognized Lila and greeted her softly, "Hello, Lila."

Lila glanced at her T-shirt, feeling a bit displeased, and reminded her, "Mr. Hamilton doesn't like others touching his things."

"Sorry, I came in a hurry yesterday and didn't bring any clothes. I'll get some today." Victoria apologized sincerely.

Hearing this, Lila didn't want to make a fuss, so she pushed the water basin inside and indicated, "It's time to wash Mr. Hamilton's body."

Victoria was stunned by the water basin. Why would he need someone else to wash him with his agile hands?

Victoria's brief daze made Lila think she was embarrassed, so she handed her the towel directly. "You are now Mrs. Hamilton, so it's normal for couples to have physical contact. It used to be the butler who helped Mr. Hamilton wash, but now it should be you."

Victoria took the towel in a daze, walked to the bed, lifted the quilt, and slowly unbuttoned his wedding dress.

Lila carefully instructed from behind, "Mr. Hamilton is in a coma, so be gentle when you wash him."

In a coma? Then what was last night? Was he pretending to be in a vegetative state?

Victoria, without showing any emotion, fully opened Edward's shirt, feeling his warm chest and strong heartbeat through the towel, and then wiped his fingers.

His knuckles were thick, and his nails were rounded. No wonder she only felt pressure last night without much pain.

Victoria's hand paused as she realized what she was thinking, her cheeks turning red.

Embarrassment and annoyance filled her heart.

Just then, Lila reminded from behind, "No need to be so shy. You still need to wash Mr. Hamilton's lower body."

Thinking of Edward's disregard for her pleas last night, Victoria narrowed her eyes.

She put the towel back in the basin, stared at the still-closed-eyed Edward, grabbed his pants on both sides, held her breath, and yanked them down.

As soon as his lower abdomen was exposed, a strong hand firmly pressed down on hers.

"That's enough."

Edward opened his eyes, his face angry, with a faint blush.

Lila dropped the towel she had wrung out, staring at the open-eyed Edward, tears streaming down her face, and ran out.

"Mr. Hamilton is awake! Quick, call Mrs. Aurora Hamilton!"

Outside, it seemed chaotic, while it was quiet inside.

Victoria stood by the bed, feeling she had done something wrong.

Seeing Edward struggling to sit up, she quickly helped him with the pillows, only to be glared at.

Victoria lowered her eyes and quickly buttoned his shirt.

After fastening the last button, Edward asked meaningfully, "Are you satisfied now?"

Victoria was confused.

The sound of hurried footsteps interrupted her thoughts.

As the door opened, a group of doctors rushed in.

A gentle lady walked in the middle. She was Edward's mother, Aurora Miller.

Aurora, forgetting to adjust her shawl, saw Edward sitting on the bed and was moved to tears. "Edward!"

She rushed over to hug Edward, sobbing softly, looking very pitiful.

Victoria felt a bit uncomfortable.

Why was Edward hiding this from his mother?

When Edward's shoulder was completely soaked with tears, Lila, full of concern, pulled Aurora away. "Mrs. Aurora Hamilton, let the doctors check on Mr. Hamilton first."

Victoria sensibly walked out. She was now considered irrelevant.

Blending back into the crowd, Victoria finally breathed a sigh of relief.

She overheard the servants whispering.

"Oh my god, I didn't expect Mr. Hamilton to really wake up!"

"Marriage really brings good luck! It seems our Mr. Hamilton married a lucky star!"

The so-called lucky star was leaning against the railing, smiling bitterly. She was no lucky star.

The villagers said that if it weren't for her, her biological father wouldn't have died in the landslide, and her biological mother wouldn't have run off with a rich man.

Victoria was lost in thought when a shadow fell over her.

She looked up and met a pair of kind eyes.

Aurora, full of affection, looked at her, took her hand, and said gratefully, "I didn't expect you to really bring Edward back. He is lucky to have married you!"

Victoria opened her mouth, wanting to tell her that Edward was already awake.

But not wanting to dampen Aurora's spirits, Victoria could only smile politely.

Aurora, looking at the obedient and timid Victoria, felt more and more fond of her. She took off a sapphire necklace from her neck and put it on Victoria. "This is the Hamilton family's treasure. From now on, you are my daughter, and no one is allowed to bully you! The Hamilton family will ensure your safety and happiness!"

Victoria felt a coolness around her neck, followed by a warmth similar to her skin.

Victoria, belatedly realizing the value of the necklace, quickly waved her hands. "This is too precious. I can't accept it, and I'm not the Davis family's daughter."

Victoria reached out to take it off.

Aurora firmly held her hand, not letting her move. "No matter whose daughter you are, you are now the Hamilton family's treasure. Others mocked and scorned, thinking Edward is finished, but as long as Edward has a breath left, he can make a comeback. You don't need to worry, we will support you. Just be a good wife to Edward and a daughter to me."

The warmth of motherly love, never felt from Amara, now flowed into her heart like a river.

As they spoke, the doctor opened the door and came out.

"Mrs. Aurora Hamilton."

The doctor greeted me respectfully, his expression not very optimistic.

Aurora frowned. "How is it?"

After venting her emotions, Aurora was now exceptionally rational.

Mother and son's calmness was identical.

The doctor put away his notes and truthfully informed, "Mr. Hamilton's functions are fine, and his lower limbs are not significantly damaged, but his lower limbs can't respond."

He observed Aurora's expression and slowly delivered the most devastating blow. "Mr. Hamilton may lose his ability to have children."

Aurora, as if struck, gripped the railing to steady herself. "If there's no damage, why can't he respond?"

After thinking for a while, the doctor said, "Many who experience sudden trauma may protect themselves selectively and create certain external defenses. This might be Mr. Hamilton's external defense."

Victoria, with her eyes downcast, couldn't help but think, 'Is this like what Lenora said about being haunted?'

Finally awake, Aurora didn't accept this result and asked, "Is there any way? Would a psychologist help?"

Since it was psychological, then they could get a psychologist for him.

The doctor shook his head, admitting, "It's difficult. A psychologist's effectiveness relies on the patient's absolute trust, but you should know Mr. Hamilton's personality."

Edward wouldn't absolutely trust anyone.

The doctor continued, "The other way is that the psychologist has absolute ability, enough to control Mr. Hamilton's will. Currently, only one person can do that, who is the professor from Aetheria, named Anouk Rivera."

Aurora frowned even more. "She retired long ago and disappeared. Where can I find her?"
