Chapter 3: Getting Detention
"Stacey, why aren't you eating? You can share mine." Chelsey offered for the second time.
"Thank you Chelsey but I'm okay," Stacey mumbled.
She knew better than to trust Chelsey, for all she knew it could be a deliberate scheme to embarrass her publicly or get her into some kind of trouble.
"Is she your sister?" Mason glanced at Stacey as he pointed at Chelsey.
"Yes, she is my twin sister," Chelsey replied smiling.
"I wasn't talking to you, I was talking to Stace," Mason muttered turning to Stacey.
"Oh, I'm sorry," Chelsey apologised her cheeks turning red in embarrassment.
"Mason, first my name is Stacey, not Stace and you shouldn't speak to my sister that way, don't be rude to her," Stacey stated.
"It's none of your business, Stacey. He can talk to me the way he pleases." Chelsey chipped in rolling her eyes at Stacey.
Chelsey grabbed her milkshake from the table and just as she was to take a sip, it fell out of her hand pouring on Stacey.
"Sorry, you'll have to go clean that up, " Chelsey mumbled sarcastically a sinister smile dancing on her lips.
Initially, Stacey had thought that Chelsey's spilling the milkshake on her was a mistake but now she knew that she was wrong, Chelsey did that deliberately.
Stacey stood up to her feet trying to wipe off the milkshake stains with her hands but it only made it worse.
"I'll come with you so I can show you the restroom and help you with that." Adriel mouthed as she sprang up from her chair.
"Is Chelsey really your sister?" Adriel asked as they walked to the restroom.
"Yes, she is. We are twins."
"That's surprising, you both are so different. I don't know if you know but she poured that juice on purpose." Adriel had seen Chelsey's whole act and the way she smiled at Kayla after spilling the milkshake on Stacey.
"I know she did, but let it be." Stacey sighed. Adriel helped her with the stain, even though it didn't completely come off it was less prominent now.
Chelsey hated Stacey because she felt Stacey was a pretentious brat who tried to make everyone like her making her look like the black sheep.
Chelsey beat up the principal's daughter in her former school on purpose simply because school became boring after Kayla left because she was expelled for bullying.
Another reason was that she had her eyes on Mason for a long time since the day he came to buy something from her Mom's supermarket.
And when she told Kayla about it, Kayla told her that Mason attended her school so Chelsey decided to take a drastic step because she knew her dad wasn't just going to agree to let her move to a new school simply because she asked. Since her plan to transfer to Rose Hill High worked, She was going to make sure that Mason became hers. She was willing to go to any length to get what she wanted.
"Mason Owens," Chelsey called flashing him a flirtatious smile.
Mason's brows furrowed and he glared at her.
"Don't you dare call me that again." He had a wan expression on his face as he spoke to her.
"Finn, let's get out of here."
Finn nodded and stood up, together he and Mason ambled away.
Two girls walked to the table when Mason and Finn were gone, "Hey wannabes." They snickered.
Chelsey made to stand up to give them a befitting reply but Kayla held her back.
"Chelsey, you wouldn't wanna mess with them they are the school's most popular girls, Scarlett and Camilla. I hate them, I mean we are archrivals but for now, stay away from them," Kayla whispered to her.
"Well, you both are nothing but scumbags stay away from Mason. He's my boyfriend and mine alone. Chelsey, I'm watching you, don't cross your boundaries." Scarlett barked rolling her eyes at Chelsey who scoffed.
"And you Kayla. Finn is mine, if you want to be safe, you should stay away from him," Camilla added giving her a once over.
After Camilla and Scarlett leered at Kayla and Chelsey like warriors would stare at their opponents in the battleground they dashed away.
"Finn, that girl Chelsey is so annoying and I dislike her so much. It's hard to believe that she's Stacey's sister and even more surprising that they are twins. You know she spilt the milkshake on Stacey intentionally." Mason rasped taking a pause while they walked.
"Woah, Mason, when did you start to care about the bad that happens to others?" Finn questioned folding his arms across his chest as he halted.
"Finn, it's not like I care but I just dislike ladies who throw themselves at guys. It's not cool, " Mason shrugged puffing out a breath.
"Then you must hate these two." He grumbled pointing his hand toward Scarlett and Camilla who were coming in their direction.
"Hey, Mason." Scarlett smiled hugging him as they reached where they were.
"How are you?" He asked breaking the hug immediately like Scarlett had ice on her.
"I'm good as always." She smiled.
"Excuse me I need to take this call. Hello Mom, " Mason mumbled raising his phone to his ear and scooting away before any of them could say a word to him.
"I really like you a lot, Finn." Camilla purred taking Finn's hand in hers.
Finn's thoughts were on something else. He knew Mason didn't receive any call, he just pretended to so he could save himself from Scarlett leaving him there with them.
"Camilla we have to go now," Scarlett told Camilla and at that moment Finn let out a relieved sigh which Camilla failed to notice since she was busy drooling over him
"Bye Finn." Camila smiled planting a kiss on Finn's cheeks before she went away with Scarlett.
Finn headed to the basketball court, he knew Mason was going to be there. That was where they were headed before they met Camilla and Kayla.
"How did you manage to escape from your girlfriend?" Mason teased bursting into laughter.
"She's not my girlfriend!" Finn stated with a straight face.
"Dude you left me there, you know how suffocated I feel whenever Camilla is around," Finn whined.
"It's not my fault that you're so nice," He chuckled.
"Finn you should have just told her to leave you alone." Mason shrugged.
"Camila would feel sad if I did. It's a good thing Scarlett came to my rescue telling Camila that they had to leave." Finn heaved a sigh.
His eyes narrowed as he peeked at Mason, "Your Mom didn't call, did she? You faked a call, your phone never even rang."
"There was no call, I had to leave you to know how talkative Scarlett is." Mason groaned making Finn chortle.
"Adriel, why did you offer your lunch to Finn?"
"It's the first time he noticed me, I've had a crush on him for a long time now," Adriel said truthfully.
"I get it the reason you acted that way in the cafeteria."
"Did I act silly?" Adriel's eyes widened and she buried her face in her palms.
"No, and he did enjoy your company, he didn't take his eyes off you." Stacey smiled.
Adriel hoisted her head, her cheeks had turned tomato red.
"Someone is blushing!" Stacey teased.
"I'm not." She argued laughing.
"So tell me what's with you and Mason?" Adriel crossed her arms her eyes scrutinising Stacey face.
"I and Mason?" Stacey's forehead creased, and her eyes narrowed in confusion.
"Uh-huh! He calls you kiddo and he gave you a nickname, Stace."
"Nothing is going on, he just likes to tease me." Stacey shrugged.
"Are you sure? He's the school's golden boy you know. Maybe you too can become..."
Stacey shook her head raising her hand in the air, "No way, don't even say it!"
"Fine," Adriel laughed raising her hands in surrender.
Stacey and Adriel headed for the class once the bell signifying the end of break rang.
Stacey was delighted since she had the same class as Adriel but when she realised that Mason had the same class as them, her excitement dropped to zero. But that didn't matter to Mason because he sat beside Stacey finding numerous ways to annoy her.
Finn was also in the class and he sat with Adriel. Chelsey and Kayla didn't stop giving Adriel and Stacey deadly stares. The teacher taught them for some time after which he gave them a classwork.
When the teacher sat on his chair he sprang up immediately. When he turned making his back face the class, some of the students burst into laughter seeing the gum that had stuck to his pants.
"Who did this?" He seethed with anger pointing to the chair and his eyes roaming the class.
"Who stuck gum to my chair?" He asked this time with a louder voice.
The entire class went silent that instant.
"Stacey did it." Chelsey and Kayla uttered in unison. Stacey was taken aback, she had nothing to do with the allegations laid against her, ever since she and Adriel came into the class she didn't leave her seat even for a minute.
"Who is Stacey?" The teacher asked.
Stacey rose from her seat," I'm Stacey but I know nothing about this."
"You look so innocent but you are mischievous. It's Detention after school for you." The teacher scowled.
"Sir, Stacey didn't do It, I did," Mason spoke up making everyone turn to him including Stacey.
The teacher looked at the class strangely before wriggling his head.
"I don't get it, Chelsey and Kayla said Stacey did it. And now you are saying you did it. Since you have planned to mess with my head. You both have detention after school." The teacher spoke in a voice tinged with annoyance before walking out of the class.
