Chapter 4

"But you did it the moment you entered this house. You're with us now. And I mean this, if you try to escape or whatever, you're going to die. So, you can also accept it now."

Carlos paced the room for a bit as Fanny stood there completely speechless, scared, and devastated.

Will she never see her family again? She only has a father and best friend, but to her, they are her world.

And she knew they would be worried if she disappeared like that.

"Anyway, we're recruiting a doctor right now so you'll soon have someone with you. Maybe they can even train you. We've had a doctor before, but... he was killed." Carlos shrugged like it was nothing.

Standing in front of her again, Carlos quickly scanned her body and just nodded in agreement.

"I'm leaving. We have some work to attend to. I'll be back to check on Michel later." He said as he walked out, quietly closing the door behind him.

Standing in the room, Fanny was stunned, unable to believe what had just happened.

Did she really have to stay here, forever?

Vengo slammed a hand on the wooden table.

"How did it get to this point?" He screamed as he got up from his leather chair and began fidgeting around the office.

The remaining three men stood around in the room and waited for their boss to calm down.

Carlos stepped forward and tried to explain what had happened.

"We don't know, sir. All we know is that when we showed up in that warehouse - on the Davies family's territory as agreed - we were suddenly trapped and they got worse. They've surrounded the place. It was Michel who found the only hole through this mess. He led us all through it, but he was the last to leave the house. warehouse. That's where he was shot."

Vengo closed his eyes as he listened and let out a frustrated growl.

When he opened his eyes again, his eyes were burning with anger and the desire to break someone's bones.

But others know that anger is not directed at them. Michel is Vengo's second-in-command and while no one dares say it out loud, the most valuable member of the team.

"And how is he now?"

Once again, Carlos licked his lips to prepare Vengo for the matter.

"Since John is no longer with us, we must act quickly. I have recruited a nurse. She is taking care of him right now."

Everyone held their breath as soon as those words left Carlos' lips.

Andy can't wait to see Vengo's reaction to this information while Charles keeps his poker face as usual, no one really knows what he's thinking.

Vengo's eyebrows shot up in surprise.

"So you're going to tell me that in the short time when Michel was injured, you hired a nurse to take care of him?"

The tension in the room increased.

They all knew that when Vengo started asking rhetorical questions, it was usually followed by a burst of anger.

Charles saw Andy tugging at his shirt and stepping in front of Carlos, knowing that his steady and monotonous demeanor would easily dispel Vengo's skepticism.

It's the trump card he has up his sleeve for him to use only in dire situations.

"She's a very capable ICU nurse who can keep Michel alive. While we can't do all the necessary security checks, she's just a girl who won't cause any harm. If she has any intention of revealing anything, we will keep her here." He soberly explained without any emotion.

Charles was sure that once Vengo saw the girl's powers, he wouldn't kill her. But even if he really did, she was simply one of many.

All he really cares about is that Carlos won't be punished for acting in desperation for their dying mafia brother.

The three of them watched Vengo think about this for a few seconds before shrugging and sitting down on the leather couch.

He quickly lit a cigarette and smoked it before answering.

"Yes. But we still need a doctor. Even if that girl is good, I'm sure this won't be the last time either of us has an injury that requires medical attention. Andy." He called, causing the most nervous person in the group to step forward and raise his head to look at him.

"Yes, boss."

"Start the doctor recruitment process right away. The Davies house has three people, perhaps you could ask if they can spare one." He suggested.

“In any case, we need more alliances…” Vengo crossed his arms across the table while the others nodded in agreement.

"This is Christian, he'll be our doctor from now on. Christian, this is our nurse Fanny." Andy quickly introduces the two as Christian gives her a gentle smile, reaching out to shake her hand.

Fanny hesitantly responded to that gesture while she nervously licked her lips.

This guy definitely seems different from the rest. His expression wasn't suppressed with anger, he was actually smiling at her.

Also, for a doctor, he seems to be quite young, probably between the ages of twenty-five and mid-thirties.

"Nice to meet you, Fanny." He says.

She nodded briefly and remained silent as Andy and Christian talked, realizing that they must have known each other for a while because there seemed to be a sense of familiarity.

Christian immediately steps forward to check on the still unconscious Michel, checking his vitals and assessing the bandages.

He started asking her questions, what she had been up to, and how she had cared for patients for the past four days.

Fanny answered honestly, all the necessary formalities she had done.

"I don't think you can do better." He finished his sentence as he smiled at her again, turning to nod at Andy.

"I also think Michel is ready to be moved to his own room. We can keep the IV by his bed."

Before Andy could reply, a fourth person suddenly entered the room, still dressed in black.
