CHAPTER EIGHT
“It says here that you want me to move in with you immediately the contract is signed?” Elizabeth asked in disbelief.
“Yes” he said
“But I can’t do that, I need to say goodbye to my brother and my mother, I have a life I need to put on pause for the next year.”
“I am well aware of your life, Elizabeth” he said life as though she could ever call what she had a life.
“Then you should understand why I cannot agree to the clause of this statement. I need a week after this to prepare myself.”
“Two days”
“Four days” Elizabeth argued.
“Two is all I can give you, starting Monday, I want you to be ready. The doctors who will treat and check up on you from time to time will be coming over to this house. I am a very busy man and so I can only squeeze out two days.”
“Fine, two days.” Elizabeth said, her face sullen.
What was she expected to do in two days.
“My driver will drop you after you finish eyeing that document and signing it?” Jason said breaking her stare.
“You do know that you are not being forced to sign anything, if you do not want you please say so. I would hate that we develop issues concerning this agreement between us.”
“I am comfortable with the arrangement, it is just going to be for a year. Whatever could go wrong?” Elizabeth asked trying to reassure herself more.
Jason watched her scribble her signature on the bottom end of the papers, she was right, what exactly could go wrong with living together in the same house for a year but even as he though, he could also think of a lot of things that could go wrong with their little arrangement.
“Here, all signed” Elizabeth said handing over the documents.
“Thank you and I shall see you in two days, let me know if you need my help in backing belongings. I would be sending someone to assist with your mother, she will be taken to hospital where she will be tested and mainly treated.” He said
Elizabeth nodded curtly and showed her way out of the house, her heart slamming against her chest, she was finally going to do this.
“Where are you?” Mara asked through the phone.
“I am close, is something wrong with mother?” Elizabeth asked panicking.
“Nothing, she woke up to eat and now back to sleep although she complained of pains all over her body, i massaged some parts and now she is back asleep.”
“Thank you so much Mar, I don’t know what I would fo without you.”
“I am here for you anytime, so hurry up okay?”
“What about Darren, is he back from where he went.”
“I haven’t seen him, maybe he came back and decided to run back again, he has not exactly been brother material seeing that she always finds a way to not be available anything your mother is concerned.
“You can’t actually blame him, he’s still a child and doesn’t understand most of these things.”
“Yeah right, hurry back.” Mara said and hung up.
Elizabeth knew she needed to talk to Darren about her leaving in two days but had no means to, he hardly picked up his phone especially if the name reads Elizabeth.
She was so deep in thought that she totally did not see the car until it skidded, raining mud all over her.
“Hey watch it.” Elizabeth screamed.
“I am sorry, I honestly did not see you there?” The man who had come out of the car asked.
Elizabeth turned to vent all of her frustration on the innocent driver who had splashed mud on her body.
Elizabeth’s mouth dropped open at the sight, he was magnificent
“Hi, my name is Lucien and I am so sorry.”
“It’s Alright, you apologized and that is what matters
“It is really nice to meet you Miss…”
“Elizabeth”
“Miss Elizabeth, I am Lucien like I said earlier. Lucien Rodrigues.” He said, extending his palm for a hand shake.
Lucien Rodrigues, most definitely related to Jason whom she had just finished speaking with.
