Chapter 6
"Call a member of your family ma'am." the nurse said, causing a pained smile to crease my lips.
"What If I don’t have a family?" At my whisper, she looked at me with a glint of surprise.
“What did you say, ma’am?” She asked and I sighed.
“Nothing. It’s okay. I will manage it myself.” I got bandaged up and hid it under my sleeve.
I was in the hospital. After I left his office, I wandered around absentmindedly. Rain poured down heavily outside, making the roads slippery. A bike skidded, and two young guys fell. In front of me, a car swerved to avoid hitting them but then crashed into me but luckily, I was okay, I just got cut on my hand. A stranger drops me to the hospital.
“If you want me to come with you…” He asked in a soft tone. His voice was gentle; he was a handsome guy, complemented by his gentle manners.
“No, Thanks for this help,” I said with gratitude and stepped out of the car. After my checkup, I got a bandage at my arm.
“Oh, it’s ten.” With fast steps, I moved outside. I have to talk to him, surely, I have to agree to stay with him to meet my daughter. Once I get the divorce, I will take my daughter far away from him. Before I crossed the corridor, I heard two nurses gossiping.
"Hey, you know that the famous actress Ria has come to room number five of the hospital. She has an injury on her head. But guess the real excitement is? She is accompanied by the famous businessman Dominic.” Hearing the name of Dominic, my steps staggered.
"Really?? So, are the rumors about his affair true?" The second nurse immediately asked out of my curiosity. My heart began to sink listening to their words.
"I heard from Dr. Farah, she is pregnant. Dr. Farah has congratulated her in front of me."
"Oh God?? She is a virgin, isn't she? I thought they were not physical. How will Dominic’s wife react when she hears it?"
“She is missing, she already knew it as they were never a happy couple and these actresses are like that. They can sleep with anyone for money. He is such a big businessman, Dominic. He must have been trapped." They were still talking but I couldn’t listen anymore so I passed quickly from there, without being noticed, and moved towards room no 5.
Maybe that would be a lie. This news can’t be true. I prayed in my heart but I felt shattered when I saw him outside Room Five. The realization hit hard—he was my husband. Those nurses were not lying. Dominic was really there. , In that moment, the weight of betrayal crushed me. Tears welled in my eyes, threatening to overflow. With a trembling hand, I wiped them away.
As I stepped into the hallway, I vowed to myself that this pain would not consume me. I may have been a victim of deception, but I refused to let it define me. With each step, I walked away from the shattered remnants of my marriage. I got back and fell on the bed.
“Why, Dominic Why? Even after you said that we should stay together, what was your motive behind it?” I screamed, that was the only way to let my pain out. I felt like a fool, a pawn in a game of deceit.
I knew he never loved me; this marriage was a contract. But this pregnancy? This shook me from the inside.
I, Sophia Dominic, known as the most beautiful and independent girl was forced to marry a ‘Billionaire’ by my father. I loved him but he never. He always bullied me and made fun of me. But now I will not stay with him, this had to end.
“Just give my daughter to me, I will never come back.”
~Next Morning
The shrill ring of the phone jolted me awake. Glancing at the clock on the bedside table, I groaned inwardly as I realized it was already 9:00 am. I looked around, the unfamiliar surroundings slowly coming into focus. I checked into this hotel room last night.
The phone rang again, I knew who it was. With a sigh, I put the phone on my ear.
"What is this, Sophia?" His voice dripped with anger as his words hit my ears. Though I wasn't there, I could almost picture Dominic's face flushed with rage.
"You can't even bother to read, can you?" I shot back, a smirk playing on my lips.
"So you are ready to give up on your daughter? I will never let you look at her for once, remember." he snapped, his tone was harsh.
"You're a beast, you are not a man, a cruel monster, you are not even capable of being a man," I responded calmly. I did not make any long and wide preambles. I struck directly at his ego. For a woman to leave her husband by simply stating that he couldn't keep her happy, especially someone like Dominic was a direct blow to his pride.
"Sorry?" he asked, confusion was evident in his tone. Tilting my head slightly, I repeated my words with emphasis.
"These are divorce papers. Sign them and set me free," I declared firmly.
"What the….." I cut off the call without waiting for his response, frustration boiling inside me and got out of bed. After quickly taking a shower in the bathroom, I changed into a black T-shirt and a pair of worn trousers and stood before the mirror.
My eyes were sore due to crying. But this whole night I spent crying only thinking that this is the last time, I was crying for Dominic . I will never cry for him from now on. Squinting my eyes, I came to open the door.
"Good morning ma'am..." The manager bowed his head slightly with great civility.
"Good morning. Yes?"
"Ma'am, Your credit card isn't working." As the manager said, I casually nodded my head and took out the second card from the wallet. "Take this." The manager swiped the card in the machine in front of me.
"It's not working either." He said softly.
"It's not working. How?" I was worried. This had never happened before. I took out the third card and handed him over.
"No ma'am, still same. Would you like to pay in cash?" He asked and I nodded worriedly. I could not believe that Dominic could fall to this extent.
"You bastard." I cursed under my breath, seething with anger at his heartless actions.
"How much longer will you be staying, ma'am?" the manager asked politely.
"Oh. I just remembered. I have to go to my friend today. I'll just check out." I said with a fake smile on my face. I had only ten thousand money. I paid the bill and quickly checked out. I can’t go to my family, they will force me back to Dominic so I decided to go to my friend.
"Sophia? What a surprise." She hugged me happily, seeking solace in the arms of my friend; I broke down in tears once more.
"What happened, Sophia?" Holding both my arms, she started inquiring in a worried tone.
"Stop. Why are you crying for that wretched person? He is not worthy of your tears." She hugged me and caressed my hair.
"So what are you going to do now?" She inquired seriously.
“I will get a divorce and take my daughter back,” I replied, my voice resolute despite the storm of emotions churning within me.
"Did you talk to your dad? He must be…." She was just about to speak, but I quickly cut her off.
"Dad will never let me divorce him. No matter what he does? Instead, he will emotionally blackmail me and send me back to him. He never loved me, he never asked where I am.” I explained bitterly. I knew my father very well.
"Is Dominic willing to divorce?" she asked, and I hesitated.
"I don’t know what he wants, he never loved me, but," I replied cynically, and my phone’s screen blinked. A message popped up on my screen.
"You want a divorce? Fine. Let's sign the papers at my office, 2 AM," I read the message, a sarcastic smile spread on my lips.
“Let’s have it,” I said with determination. The culmination of my humiliation, agony, and pain was finally at hand; ready to be put to an end.
