Chapter 27 Concerning Elliot

Hearing this, Hazel paused for a moment, then obediently walked over.

On the balcony, Lawrence was sitting in his wheelchair, holding a phone. Hazel could vaguely hear the voice on the other end.

It was a man's voice.

"Maybe I should leave you two to talk. I don't want to intrude." Hazel guessed she might be interrupting Lawrence and bit her lip, feeling a bit awkward.

"It's fine. It's Mr. Martin calling. You can stay." Lawrence replied, and Hazel nodded, realizing why the voice sounded familiar.

"It's about the fire at the villa." Lawrence added.

Hazel's eyes widened, her mouth opening silently. "They found out so quickly?"

Lawrence nodded and continued talking to Louis on the phone.

"Someone tracked your movements the day you arrived, bribed people at the resort, and placed a sedative in your room. After you inhaled it and fell asleep, they set the fire in the middle of the night, hoping you to die without anyone knowing. Damn it! They almost made me take the fall for this." Louis cursed on the phone.

If Lawrence had really died in the fire, Louis would have been in deep trouble.

Thinking about it made him want to skin those responsible.

"Who was bribed?" Lawrence's tone remained calm.

Louis quickly gave a name, "We've identified them. The mastermind is Elliot."

Hearing the name, Lawrence's eyes darkened.

Elliot couldn't wait to strike after being kicked out of the Johnson Group.

If he had waited a bit longer, it might have taken Lawrence more time to trace it back to him.

Sensing Lawrence's change in mood, Hazel also felt a bit tense. She was close enough to hear some of the conversation.

The Johnson Family was a dangerous place!

They would go to such lengths to harm a disabled man like Lawrence.

"I understand. Thank you, Louis, for finding this out. I owe you one." Lawrence said.

"Don't mention it. This happened on my turf, so it's my responsibility. I'll send you the evidence. You can deal with whoever you need to, but leave me out of it." Louis replied.

After hanging up, the balcony fell silent.

Hazel spoke angrily, "They went too far! Trying to kill you like that!"

Lawrence felt a warmth in his heart seeing Hazel stand up for him. "Let's go inside."

"Okay." Hazel said.

Standing up, Hazel pushed Lawrence back into the room. She wondered how he would handle things now that they knew who was behind it.

She thought about asking but decided against it.

Louis soon sent the evidence to Lawrence, including transaction records, call logs, photos, and videos.

After reviewing the materials, Lawrence's expression grew darker.

If that was how they wanted to play, he wouldn't hold back.

The next day, Lawrence unusually didn't go to the office. Hazel was surprised to see him still at home when she got up.

"Mr. Johnson, aren't you going out today?" Hazel asked.

"No, I'm taking the day off. Do you have anywhere you want to go? I can take you out." Lawrence replied.

Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, filling the room with warmth.

Looking at Lawrence by the window, Hazel felt he seemed a bit more gentle than before.

"Mr. Johnson, are you taking me shopping?" Hazel asked.

They had been married for a while, but Lawrence spent almost all his time working. She hadn't experienced any of the typical honeymoon period though their marriage wasn't based on love..

Seeing Hazel's expression, Lawrence guessed her thoughts and raised an eyebrow. "Don't you want to go?"

"Of course I do. Are you paying, Mr. Johnson?" Hazel asked playfully, earning an exasperated look from Lawrence.

She had planned to meet Kelly today, but Kelly had to reschedule. Now that Lawrence offered to take her out, she was happy.

Quickly getting ready, Hazel pushed Lawrence downstairs.

In the living room, Ruby had prepared breakfast, and Jeremy was sitting at the table.

"Good morning, Grandpa." Hazel greeted sweetly, surprised to see Jeremy there.

Jeremy smiled as they came down. "Good morning, why didn't you let us know you were coming back last night? Did the doctor confirm you're both okay?"

"We're fine. Staying in the hospital too long isn't good, so we came back." Lawrence took the porridge Hazel served him and sipped it. "By the way, Grandpa, could you have Uncle Gerald and the others come over tonight? I have something to ask them."

Suddenly, Lawrence said this, and Hazel's hand trembled slightly, guessing what he intended.

A strange light flashed in Jeremy's eyes. "Why do you want Gerald to come back all of a sudden?"

Putting down his bowl, Lawrence looked at Jeremy. "It's nothing serious, just some questions."

The two stared at each other, an invisible tension in the air. Jeremy broke the silence first. "Alright, I'll have someone notify them."

Breakfast was uncomfortable for Hazel, but Jeremy left after a few bites.

Jason had already parked the car at the villa entrance. Once they got in, he drove out of the estate.

"Hazel, do you want to move out?" On the way, Lawrence suddenly asked, surprising Hazel.

"I'd like to, but would Grandpa agree?" Hazel replied.

The Johnson Mansion was too oppressive, especially after meeting Gerald and Bryan's family. She always felt watched.

It might sound exaggerated, but it was true.

"I have a place at Emerald Heights Estate. If you want to move, we can start packing." Lawrence said.

With that, Lawrence instructed Jason, "Jason, get someone to prepare the place at Emerald Heights Estate."

"Got it." Jason replied.

Hazel stayed silent, sensing something was about to happen.

But these thoughts were pushed aside as she started shopping, until the Johnson Mansion called in the afternoon.

They said Gerald's family had returned, so Lawrence took Hazel back leisurely.

At the Johnson Mansion, Gerald and Edith were clearly impatient. "Dad, why did Lawrence call us back? We've been waiting all day. Where is he?"

Lawrence had called them back, but now he was nowhere to be seen.

"Just wait. Stop complaining." Jeremy frowned slightly.

Scared by Jeremy's tone, Edith shut her mouth and tugged Gerald's sleeve, whispering, "Do you think they've found out something?"
