What Again?

Sarah’s POV

FLASHBACK

“Are you sure you want to do this?” I asked Spencer for the millionth time. He was getting ready for his case tomorrow. My case, actually.

“I told you I would do everything in my power to see that you get justice. I would help you, Sarah. Let me do this,” he said, cupping my face

He leaned in, reaching out for my… lips. I think? Before Lisa walked in on us. She glared at me before reaching for my arm and yanking me away from her son. I staggered, finally standing my ground as I held onto the couch

“Listen to me, Spencer,” she continued. “I am your mother and I won’t lie to you. You are going to have your life ruined if you don’t back out from this. Don’t do this,” she warned.

“I think you should listen to your mother, Spence,” I said softly.

“Shh,” Spencer cautioned. He gazed at his mother for a while before turning to me. “I have made up my mind,”

“Miss…” A voice hollered, bringing me back to reality. “Cappucino coffee, please?”

“S-sure,” I slurred, discharging him. After a few minutes of getting it ready, I served him in a jiffy and returned to the counter.

Once again, my mind drifted off to thoughts of Spencer. I wondered how he was doing, how long he would have to stay behind bars. I felt a pang of sadness and guilt, knowing that I was the reason he was in this situation.

I shook my head, trying to brush off the thoughts and focus on my work. But it was hard to concentrate when my mind kept wandering back to Spencer.

I miss him. I whispered to myself unknowingly.

Just as I was starting to get lost in thought again, my phone beeped, alerting me that it was my break time. I smiled, grateful for the distraction.

I took out my entrepreneurship and business books, eager to learn more about how to get back on my feet. I had big plans, and I was determined to make them happen.

After my break, I went back to work. And before I knew it, my closing time had arrived.

I packed up my things and headed home, exhausted but relieved that the day was over.

As I walked into the house, I was met with a surprise. Lisa was standing in the living room, my suitcase packed and ready to go.

“You're leaving,” she spat, her eyes blazing with anger. “You're not welcome here anymore,”

I became angry, struggling to remain calm. “I don't want to cause any trouble,” I said, trying to reason with her.

But she wouldn't listen. “You're trouble, Sarah,” she sneered. “You're nothing but trouble,”

She held my arm and tried to throw me out but Spencer walked in the door, putting his mom to halt. We were both surprised and happy to see him knowing fully well that he had just been there for only a few months and still had more years to spend.

“How did you...?” I started to ask, but Spencer just smiled.

“I was bailed out by an unknown person,” he said, his eyes sparkling with amusement.

“Omg, Spencer…” I was happy and relieved. Without delay, I jumped into his arms, hugging him tightly. I had missed him so much.

His mom rushed over to try and disengage us, but Spencer cautioned her gently but firmly.

“Mom, stop it. Leave her alone,” he said. “Sarah has done nothing but bring fulfilment, joy and love into my life. She mean no harm and she has come to stay,”

His mom stepped back, her face still twisted with anger. But Spencer just ignored her, his eyes locked on mine. “I need to talk to you, Sarah,”

I gazed at him, giving him all my ears. “Go on, Spence,” I said slowly

“Sarah, from the moment I met you, I knew that you were special,” he said lowly and huskily, reaching out for my hands. “I know you're scared of loving again, but I promise you, I'm different. I'll never hurt you,”

My heart raced and my pulse pounded heavily in my ears. I tried to say something, but Spencer just leaned in and kissed me. And just like a flash, the world around us melted away, and all that was left was the two of us, lost in the moment.

After a while, we broke away from the passionate kiss which I hadn’t realized I had been missing. Strangely, I felt nauseous. I doubled over, clutching my stomach in pain.

Spencer and his mom rushed to my side, their faces covered with concern.

“Sarah, what's wrong?” Spencer asked, his voice panicking.

I tried to speak, but the pain was too much, making me feel like I was going to pass out.

Spencer scooped me up in his arms, rushing me to the car while he drove faster to the hospital. His mom got into the car as well, her face still twisted with worry.

Thoughts of what could be wrong with me continously lingered in my head as I lay in the hospital bed. Spencer and his mom were sitting in the chairs beside my bed, Lisa’s face cold while Spencer’s face was etched with concern. He must have thought he had lost me.

Just then, the doctor walked in, a somber look on his face. “Sarah, I have your test results,” he said with a gentle tone. He looked really healthy, more than the last time I saw him.

Anxiety took over me as my heart raced with anticipation. “What is it?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

The doctor took a deep breath before speaking. “Sarah, you're pregnant,”

My jaw dropped. “Pregnant? How is that possible? I hadn't even…”

“It’s cryptic and you’re due for delivery,” the doctor cut in. “I had wanted to tell you this the last time you were admitted here,”

Sunddenly, I recalled the day I noticed my increased weight. “This has always been the reason…” I whispered to myself

Lisa stood up, her face twisted in disgust. “This is unbelievable,” she spat.

Spencer tried to say something, but she dragged him out of the room before he could get a word in.

While they were outside the room, I heard Lisa say, “I warned you about her, Spencer. She's a slut and she's no good for you,”

My heart broke as I processed those words. I was angry and pushed to react but before I could, I felt drowsy. I tried to fight it, but it was no use. I fell asleep instantly, Lisa’s words still ringing in my head.

A FEW MONTHS LATER

I sat in my home office, surrounded by fabric swatches and design sketches. My twins, Alexandria and Jackson, were sleeping peacefully in their nursery, and I was finally getting some work done on my clothing line.

It had been a few months since I'd given birth, and I was proud of how far I'd come. I'd managed to set up my business from home, using the small amount of money I'd saved up from my part-time jobs. And to my surprise, it was taking off. I'd even landed a deal with a major retailer, which had brought in a steady huge stream of income.

Spencer had also been a huge support throughout this time. He'd helped me with the twins, even though I noticed how he secretly wished the twins were his. Meanwhile, I'd been able to help him financially, and he'd been able to get his license back, finally becoming the known and respected lawyer he had always wanted to be.

Just as things were starting to look up, Lisa had a heart attack. We were celebrating our wins at home when she suddenly clutched her chest and fell to the ground. We rushed her to the hospital, leaving the twins in the care of their new nanny, Gabrielle.

Arriving at the hospital, the doctor gazed at us, his face etched with concern. “Mr. Spencer, your mom needs a blood transfusion immediately,”

Spencer immediately volunteered to donate, but to our surprise, he wasn't a match. He looked confused and concerned, and I could tell he was worried about the whole thing. But how could this be?

Without hesitation, I stood up, determined. “I'll do it,” I said, looking at the nurse. “I'll give my blood,”

Spencer raised an eyebrow, a skeptical look on his face. “Sarah, it's no use,” he said, shaking his head. “If I'm not a match, there's no way you will be. We're not even related,”

But I insisted. “Just try,” I said, looking at the nurse. “Please,”

The nurse nodded and began to prepare me for the blood draw. Spencer looked on, his expression dubious.

I felt a slight pinch as the nurse inserted the needle into my arm. Spencer stood beside me, his arms crossed over his chest.

But then, just as the nurse was finishing up, she looked at me with a surprised expression. “You're a match,” she said, her voice filled with excitement.

Spencer's jaw dropped. “What?” he exclaimed, his voice disbelieving. “That's impossible,”

I became confused. What did it mean? Why was I a match if Spencer wasn't?

I looked at him, but he just shook his head, his eyes wide with shock. The nurse was smiling, but I just felt confused and disoriented.

“What does it mean?” I asked, looking at the nurse.

But before she could answer, Spencer's face went white. “Oh my god,” he whispered, his eyes fixed on me. “It can't be,”
