Chapter 3 The Man Who Resembles Her Children

Kathie felt a whirlwind of emotions. She was terrified this man might be the one she had a one-night stand with, and she didn't dare make a move.

Maybe it was all just a coincidence.

There are tons of people in the world who look alike, and as for the scar, it had to be a coincidence too!

Kathie steadied herself, wrung out the towel from the basin, and gently wiped the mud and blood off the man's face.

When she finally saw his face clearly, her heart started racing.

It wasn't because she was smitten by his good looks, but because she had never seen such an unblemished face.

His refined features exuded authority and strength, with a prominent nose and deep-set eyes that were closed. He was so strikingly perfect that Kathie couldn't look away.

She examined him closely; the man really did look quite a bit like her children.

She searched through his clothes but found no identification, not even a phone.

However, his high-quality suit was clearly expensive, suggesting he wasn't an ordinary person.

Recalling the car accident news she had heard earlier, Kathie grew suspicious.

Could he be Jonathan Berkeley?

After a moment, Kathie covered him with a blanket and headed to the kitchen to prepare some medicine.

The kitchen was still a mess, with only a small area cleared. As she started brewing the medicine, she decided to hire a cleaning service for the large villa.

Meanwhile, her three children had been secretly watching from outside. Seeing Kathie leave, they sneaked into the room.

"He hasn't woken up yet." Eileen ran to the bedside and exclaimed, "Wow! He's so handsome!"

Zachary pulled Eileen back by the neck. "Eileen, don't get obsessed with looks. Be careful not to get tricked."

Eileen pouted, "But he's really handsome! And he looks a lot like us!"

The other two kids looked and nodded. Zachary said, "Could he be our dad?"

Kyle's young voice was steady, "There are many people who look alike. The bad man who abandoned Mommy also looked like us."

Eileen quickly waved her hands. "That bad man is definitely not our dad!"

Zachary shook his head. "Absolutely not!"

"Of course not. Our dad must be a good person!" Kyle crossed his arms, very sure of himself.

Over the past year, they had pieced together their story from conversations between their mom and godmother.

Four years ago, their mother was betrayed by a scumbag and her stepsister, so she went abroad and gave birth to them. But no one knew who their biological father was.

Kyle guessed that their mom didn't know either. Every time they asked about their dad, she looked very sad.

Eventually, he told his siblings to stop asking, and they avoided the topic.

But they still really wanted to know who their dad was.

The kids all looked at the sleeping man, their faces full of confusion and sadness.

Kathie returned with the medicine and saw the kids gathered around the bed, feeling a sudden sense of family.

She must have been overwhelmed by the smell of the medicine, making her head spin.

Eileen was the first to ask, "Mommy! Will the handsome man be okay?"

Kathie replied softly, "He'll be fine. With proper treatment, he'll recover."

He was lucky to survive such a high fall.

He had broken his arm and leg. Once he woke up, it would be best to take him to the hospital.

"Mommy needs to give him his medicine now. You guys go play," Kathie said.

She sent the kids away and then propped up the man's head to feed him the medicine.

Sensing the bitter taste, the man kept his lips tightly shut.

She tried several times but couldn't get him to drink it.

Frustrated, Kathie wiped his mouth and threw the handkerchief on the table. "You're so big and strong, yet you're fussing over some bitter medicine?"

The man remained unconscious, his brows furrowing as if he could taste the bitterness.

Kathie sighed, pinched his cheeks to force his mouth open, and quickly poured the medicine in.

Halfway through, she let go, but the man slightly opened his mouth, spilling much of the medicine.

Kathie frowned. "If you want to die, just don't drink the medicine!"

The man's brows furrowed as if he heard her.

Kathie continued, "Open your mouth. If you spit it out again, I'll feed you with my mouth. Don't say I didn't warn you!"

That seemed to work. His eyelashes fluttered, and he didn't spit out any more medicine.

After feeding him, Kathie was drenched in sweat.

He was really hard to take care of, even more so than her kids.

That night.

After putting the kids to bed, Kathie found herself unable to sleep, thinking about everything that had happened during the day.

She put on a coat and walked to the window, looking at the full moon with a complicated feeling.

She hoped coming back was the right decision.

Kathie checked on the man in the guest room. Seeing his flushed face and sweaty forehead, she quickly felt his temperature.

He had a fever!

Luckily, she caught it in time. Otherwise, the consequences could have been severe.

Kathie brought the antipyretic medication and gave him an injection. Then she used physical cooling methods. With limited medical supplies, there wasn't much else she could do.

After a long night, his fever finally broke at dawn, and Kathie fell asleep by the bedside, exhausted.

Jonathan felt intense pain and a heavy head. He wanted to open his eyes but couldn't. He had a long dream with an irresistible female voice and the chatter of children.

The noise made him want to wake up.

Groggily, Jonathan opened his eyes and saw a delicate woman's face. Her long eyelashes looked like resting butterflies in the sunlight.

He thought he was hallucinating and tried to see more clearly, but his head and eyes felt heavy. Soon, he fell back asleep.

"Sir, are you still asleep?" Eileen ran in. "Mommy, why are you sitting on the floor?"

Eileen had woken up early and came to check on Jonathan first.

Kathie heard her and lifted her head from the bedside, rubbing her eyes. She realized she had fallen asleep.

"Eileen, why are you up so early?" Kathie asked.

"I wanted to see if the handsome man is better. Mommy, is he still asleep?" Eileen replied.

Kathie felt the man's forehead and sighed in relief.

His fever had broken.

"He's getting better. Eileen, go wash up. Mommy will make breakfast, and you can call your brothers to eat," Kathie said.

She then covered the man with a blanket and led Eileen out.

After almost no sleep, Kathie felt exhausted but still made breakfast for the kids.

Watching them eat happily, Kathie felt a sense of joy, and her fatigue seemed to fade.

Kathie was so tired that she fell asleep at the table halfway through eating.

Eileen was about to speak, but Kyle gestured for silence, and Zachary quickly brought a small blanket to cover Kathie.

The three kids quietly cleaned up the dishes.

Kathie woke up twenty minutes later, seeing her kids around her. She felt warmth in her heart and took them back to bed for a nap.

After lunch, Kathie planned to go to the mall for some supplies and medicine. She told the kids, "Mommy is going to the mall. Be good at home and remember the three things I told you not to do."

Zachary raised his hand. "We know, don't open the front door, don't touch the electrical outlets, and stay away from fire."

Kathie smiled and ruffled his hair. "Great. Remember, especially don't open the door for strangers. I'll bring you some treats when I get back!"

The three children's eyes lit up with excitement as they happily responded, "Okay!"
