I jerk awake, my heart hammering in my chest, my body drenched in cold sweat. My breath comes in shallow, uneven gasps as my eyes dart around the dimly lit room. The soft glow of the bedside lamp casts long shadows on the walls, and I can tell it’s well past evening.
